I am experiencing the same problem with both Safari (current version with latest security update earlier this week) & Netscapev7.2.
I was in a lengthy discussion with SBC Yahoo DSL Tier 2 support today, and have emailed details of screen shots from 2/25, when you could ultimately get to a "Secure Mode" link to a page which would display a 'locked' or secure page.
In the last 2 days, the email verification page has changed to one not offering the 'older' SSL3, 128 bit, MD5 security level.
Since I am also an employee of SBC (Voice Switch not internet side), and a DSL customer, I am interested in getting to the bottom of this issue, and hope I have escalated to better level of attention at this point.
Since SBC/ATT have partnered to provide the SBC/ATT Yahoo service, I am inclined to believe something has changed in the recent Yahoo email password verification screen/SSL protocol implementation that neither Safari nor Netscape can handle.
I am baffled, though, why a security warning, or some 'flash' / redirect is not occuring to direct the page to a non-secure version. The security options are set in both of my browsers. Maybe this is purely a Yahoo error never directing to a secure site in the first place.
At least a year ago, I questioned why the old password verification page did not go directly to a secure site, instead of the insecure page to start. I was told it was to conserve secure server resources, but the user could choose to the secure log in by executing a few extra clicks.
If ANYONE, including Apple Safari support or programers, knows what the latest SSL security protocols Safari supports, please let me know, & I will pass it on to SBC (now the newATT).
Netscape provides quite a lot information on the SSL protocols enabled in the preferences/security section, so the only thing left is a secure SSL protocol issued since the v7.2 implementation.
If anyone can point me to the latest SSL RFC changes, this may also help.
Thanks for any help! I will report any new developments.
