I use Xmarks on my computers to sync my bookmarks to all my browsers (chrome, safari, mozilla, IE). I used to plug in my iPhone and the bookmarks would sync to my iphone too. Now with iCloud it doesn't work.

In iTunes it says:

When I do an iTunes sync, these don't get updated. On the iPhone it says "Photos, Tones, Books, Music, Movies, Podcasts, iTunes U, and Apps" under iTunes Wifi Sync. Bookmarks are On under the iCloud option in iPhone Settings.

I have iOS 5, Lion 10.7.2, iTunes 10.5, Safari 5.1.1. Everything is up to date, and it's not working.

How do I get my bookmarks to sync??

I got this fixed. Synching to iCloud will only backup what was on the iPhone to the cloud and back. It doesn't back up your computer to the cloud and then to the phone. So I turned off iCould synching, and now it synchs the bookmarks from my computer when I do an iTunes wifi synch.

I think I did what you explained here, I turned off the Bookmark On/Off button on my iPhone then did a wireless sync and still no Bookmarks updated on my iPhone. Did I not understand what you explained?

    Thanks in Advance

In iTunes, under info, make sure you have this option checked:Screen Shot 2011-10-15 at 7.49.31 PM.png

itunes Other Tab, like you have here, doesnt have a check box for "sync safari bookmarks" it only has the "sync notes"

mine says "book marks ARE being synced.." but arent...

how did you get that check box to show up..

You have to turn off iCloud bookmark synching on your phone (Settings>iCloud>Bookmarks Off). Then the option will appear in iTunes to sync with Safari.

But doesn't that defeat the whole idea of iCloud?  I am having the same issue but resorting to iTunes syncing is a bit like curing the disease by killing the patient...

I turned off iCloud then checked Sync Safari Bookmarks it then fixed my missing bookmarks on my iPhone I then turned it back on and all is well.

    Thanks veganmanda

I having the same frustrating issue, I've enabled wifi syncing on my phone and MPB for Bookmarks and am waiting and waiting for a sync to occur. I've deleted a couple of bookmarks on my MPB on Safari and have waited an hour for iCloud to sync that to my phone. Phone is plugged in and all.  Nothing. Frustrating thing is that at least with MobileMe, you could force the issue by clicking the "Sync" icon at the top of the screen. But now I have a worthless MobileMe Sync icon taking up space on top of the screen telling me that "no devices are syncing", just a parting shot from MobileMe I guess.

How do you force iCloud to sync?

It depends what you want. You can either have bookmark backup or bookmark syncing with ios 5. Xmarks will back up and synch my bookmarks to all my browsers. Time machine also backs that up. So I'd rather have bookmark syncing via iTunes wifi synch. With iCloud turned on, your bookmarks will never sync with your computer like it used to.

You have to turn off iCloud. Ad I mentioned above, iCloud does not sync to your computer, only the cloud. You arnt going to see an update until you turn it off and sync.

Uuhh sure it does, that's the whole point.  When I turned on iCloud on my Mac it synced everything from it and down to the phone.  It happened for everything except for bookmarks.  In fact, it wiped out my bookmarks on the phone and put...nothing in their place.  When I try to edit them it says they're "syncing".  Something is not right.

Right, it might be the intention to work that way, but it's not working. That's why you have nothing on your phone, the bookmarks didn't get synced to the cloud from your computer. Hopefully that will change.

I understand.  I tried what you suggested but it didn't work...let me know if I did it right:

on iPhone I turned off the iCloud setting for syncing bookmark.

on iTunes I turned ON the setting for syncing bookmarks.

    Started the sync.

It fails telling me the bookmarks cannot be synced because they're in use by the iPhone.  "Close the bookmark setting in the iPhone, then sync again".

Not even sure what bookmark setting it's referring to!

I haven't seen that error. What might have happened is you had the Settings screen still open on your iPhone when you tried to sync, so it didn't work. Try closing settings. Also, when I turned off iCloud bookmarks, it asked me if I wanted to delete the bookmarks on the phone, and I said yes. I hope that helps!
