Greyed out "Sync now" button on iPhone 4 and iPad 2 won't let me synch to iTunes.

Dowloaded and installed IOS 5. Wireless "synch now" buttons on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 are greyed out and won't let me synch to iTunes. I have previously synched successfully over WiFi.

Any suggestions?

I was thinking some more about this -- I don't think this (see previous post above) is an issue for iTunes wireless syncing because all of my iOS devices and PCs are on the same private net-10 subnet. If any double-NATting is happening, it's between my private network and the public internet, which shouldn't have an impact on iTunes wireless syncing.... However, I can see how this double NAT could impact NetFlix streaming (extra NAT overhead).

Looks like I'll need to mess with the settings and see what happens (disable DHCP/NAT in AEBS)...

I think I've tried everything listed above and still doens't work. I'm giving up. I shouldn't have to be a technical genius to use a feature that is listed as standard for any product. I have Documents-To-Go and it communicates flawlessly between by iPhone and computer using wifi. I would think that iTunes would do it also. sigh.

I am having the same problem with the grayed-out 'Sync Now' button on my iPhone 4S. I have yet to wirelessly sync the phone, a fact which wasn't so bothersome until an hour ago when, as my phone was plugged into the computer but not syncing, it started disconnecting and reconnecting to iTunes, making the 'charging now' noise at increasing frequency until now every time I wire the phone to iTunes, it disconnects and reconnects constantly about 3 times per second.

I don't know if you have this issue solved by now since it's been two months since your post, but I did have the same trouble. The funny thing is, the fix/solution was pretty simple in my case.

Now, I did not read all of the post on here, but here is what I did just now (kind of silly, but it solved the problem):

- connected iPad 2 to my MacBook Pro (or your computer with iTunes)

- launched iTunes

- under Devices on iTunes, clicked iPad 2

- scrolled down the main window to Options

- put a check mark on "Sync with this iPad over Wi-Fi

- clicked "Apply" to apply change

on the iPad 2, under Settings-General-iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, "Sync Now" is now active or black and not greyed out!

If you have done these steps already, and it's still not working for you, I'm sorry then that the issue is more complex than mine.

Good luck and good cheers to all this Christmas!

I was going crazy trying to figure this out also. I had tried all the troubleshooting tips, reset all of the routers, reset all devices, and disabled all firewalls and was still getting a greyed out sync button on an iPhone 4S as well as an iPad 2.

My iPhone was plugged into a power strip, so I unplugged it from that and plugged it directly into the wall in my kitchen, and lo and behold the sync now button became available! Now, it is even available when it's not plugged in, as well as when it is plugged into any outlet. Unbelievably, this worked for the iPad 2 as well.

Try this simple solution, maybe it will work for you too. Good luck!

After further troubleshooting because of intermittent connection, I have been able to get constant connections now.

Norton's firewall will block the wifi sync. I have always allowed iTunes to connect to the internet. Going into my firewall settings, Bonjour was blocked. After I allowed Bonjour to connect, my connection is consistent.

Worked well for me too. Thanks so much. After all the other things I tried, I think this was what made it work. 🙂

Try this, it worked for me after nothing else here would:

Open the windows firewall settings, and look if "SyncServer.exe" is allowed. I'm gonna guess it isn't even listed 😝

Instructions (Windows 7 x64 - Vista is probably similar):

Open "Control Panel"

Select "Windows Firewall"

Click "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall"

Look for "SyncServer" in the list. It won't be there.

Click "Change Settings" then "Allow another program"

Click "Browse..."

Find "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\SyncServer.exe"

Restart iTunes and your iPod/Phone/Pad should appear in iTunes even when disconnected. If not, try rebooting to make sure everything is reloaded properly.

Hooking my iPhone to the computer doesn't help at all. It's not even showing up in the sidebar of iTunes after the update. Worked fine before I updated iOS and iTunes (not sure which update caused the problem). I've tried all three USB ports on my laptop, two cables, and restarting the iPhone. Same problem. Phone doesn't see iTunes. iTunes doesn't see phone. Maybe I need to restart the Mac? 😟

Greyed out "Sync now" button on iPhone 4 and iPad 2 won't let me synch to iTunes.
