Music app for ios5 is unusable (it's so bad)

Are you kidding? This app was produced by apple?

The new "music" app for the iPad in ios5 is almost unusable. Did this app really come from apple? The new theme does not match any other apps by apple! The prev version was miles better. No points for going retro and no points for being unique. The controls are snarky at best and are different from any other controls found on prev iOS versions. The red line is a progress bar? Is that supposed to be a needle on an on radio or a mistake in the programming?

Any way to rollback just the music app?

As a podcast listener, I have lost about 40% of the functionality of my iPad with this upgrade. Podcasts will no longer continue to play, leaving e no alternative than to open the iPad at the end of every single podcast to start the next one.

This is not acceptable.

With all the marketing hype about "user experience", what happened? OR, is this a ploy to get us to buy another iPod to supplement the iPad? THAT sounds like something "marleting" would do...

PLEASE fix this before the iPad becomes the object of more ridicule... Unless Apple thinks they dominate the industry and order their customers around like IBM USED to do... nah.... at least I hope not...

Gosh, you can't even choose an artist and listen to all their songs on shuffle. First of all, the "Shuffle" option that used to be at the top of the song list is gone, so you have to choose a song in particular to start, then hit the Shuffle button in the menu. Even then, it only shuffles songs within that chosen song's album, and stops once that album is finished.

On the flipside, it for some reason automatically shuffles the song listings of some of my playlists, instead of listing the songs by song title alphabetically, like it used to and like it still is on the iPhone.

And it is INCREDIBLY LAGGY.

Glad to see CNET and ZDnet's articles on the Music app's failure as well.

I've been having the same problems with my playlists automatically shuffling them instead of keeping them in the order that I have them in iTunes. It also seems to be freezing. After I play music for a while in the album view (which I do every day all the time) and try to go back to anything else or select different music to play it's frozen and I can't do anything about it other than to reboot it. Even getting out of the app and then back in doesn't fix it.

When are we going to be able to play our music videos that the store sell.. What the heck.. another release, the music app is only redesigned it looks like the skin. What changed? We should be able to put music videos in the playlist and it plays like it does now but with the videos playing. What in the heck. Makes buying music video pointless unless you can play them from a playlist and see the video too not just some crapy thumbnail. At this point apple is wasting people money selling the videos... just wasted my funds and I will just buy music somewere else till I can play the music videos back to back.

If you call that playing. Thou it seems they may have fixed the bug that defaulted the speaker action to the system speaker even if there was headphones in use. But it still kicks you out to the summary screen when the vid is over. That is what it should do in my view. BUT IMNHO if you can only play just the sould in the music player, where you can make playlist that just play back to back, make this unsable, and you should be able to see the video too.

At that the upgrade has distroyed my playlists that had both videos and music cause I already wasted my money buy music vids but at least I would have a mixed play list in the last version.. I hope the update wiping my lists out don't mean that I can't mix them anymore.. that will really **** me off..

If you can't play music videos back to back.. heck window media play has done this for like 11 years now.. but if it's not back to back what is the point.. I don't want to have to switch back and forth to play the next one.

If they sell music videos then THEY MUST play music videos along side the music. It's not TV thou even there I can think in session watching you'd what the same.

This is a major pain to me.

I think the iPad's new Music App is basically a downgrade as well, but complaing about it here isn't going to do anyone any good. Apple Inc doesn't read these threads.

However you can let them know what you think (I know I have!):

you got to be kidding.. I already did report it but.. this is discussions.apple.com/ not some thrid party site.. I can't believe how unresponsive apple can be...

I'm thinking may-be I made a bad choice of an iPad over a tablet now.. :/ hate when I make $500 misstakes. -J

It's terrible. I've registered for the Apple forums specifically so I can log my issues too. Primarily my biggest problem (as I use itunes sorry the 'music app') on my iPhone almost exclusively for podcasts, is the failure of the app to properly sync played data. I use a playlist to compile the podcasts I want to hear next, but after I've played them on my iphone, and synced in itunes on my computer, the library in itunes still doesn't understand the podcasts have been played. Even when I've manually 'marked as played' the podcasts in the playlist on my phone, itunes on my computer can't see that they are all played - it's arbitrarily marking some as played and others as not played. yet in my phone, on the playlist, these podcasts have 1 play marked.

I mean, ***?

This is requiring so much more manual maintenance than the previous system. I have to always read the description of the podcast to figure out whether I've listened to that one nd can delete it either from the playlist or the library, for each individual podcast. It's driving me crazy. And don't get me started on partially played podcasts, in ios5 this counts as never played. How is this supposed to work with the fact that I usually skip past the closing credits of a podcast after I've listened to it - at least when they were marked partially played, i could safely reason that I'd given that podcast a listen. It seems now not to mark them as anything at all.

Please an update soon!!

Copy of my feedback to apple. Hope it helps. I hate this app. I agree with another poster. I think they are doing this on purpose. Making it so bad. People like me. Buy an iPod to have the ease of use back. Well. Not going to happen here.

This new music app has got to be there worst thing I have ever seen apple come out with. It went from a super streamlined music player to something I don't use anymore. In fact I'll probly just take it off completely. Unless an independent music app comes along closer to the old one.

1. Taken away ability to search a playlist needs to be brought back.

2. Pull down and select shuffle much better than playing a song then selecting it. It's now less simple and people need to learn the icon for shuffle instead of the old word.

3. Most songs are now too long to be displayed completely. Podcasts are unusable as I can no longer read them since they are to long named. You switch to a smaller window when I hit a playlist of any kind taking away the whole point of having a BIG screen on the iPad. Reading crunched names that all start with the sake phrase is not possible anymore navigation is impossible.. They are all to long for the iPad to read and I can't even tell by looking at the list as to which one is playing as some kind of highlight of the playing podcast episode is not highlighted at all. Impossible to play the next one in order or the last without knowing where im at on the list.

4. The playlist layout is just awful. I see the albums first and in small print the name I gave my playlist. It's just harder to navigate. And some albums and artist are in multiple playlists do you really need to watch. I always hit the wrong playlist at first. The old layout was simple fast and hard to mistake anything. I could look through my playlists and songs much easier. In the same window ! Now it's a whole new window that I'm stuck in. Bad.

5. the play and forwards and backwards buttons blend in to much and are hard from people without 20 20 vision to even see. They are no camoflaughed with the bar and very hard to see for some and uncomfortable for others. The red line is hard to select and navigate through a long podcast and looks very out of place. Or. It's just unpleasant to look at.
