iPhone 4S won't automatically sync over wi-fi with iTunes when plugged in to the wall

Hello-

I am using a 64GB iPhone 4S, and just set it up to sync wirelessly with my computer. However, when the device is plugged in to the wall, it won't automatically sync with iTunes. I always have to prompt it to sync. Not a huge deal, since I can still connect with the computer cordlessly, but does anybody know a fix for this? Thanks!

I had the same problem. Make sure 2 boxes are checked in iTunes on your iPhone Summary tab:

1. Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected

2. Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi

This did the trick for me. Hope it helps.

My 4S falls out of the list when I unplug the USB cable.

My iPhone 4 disappears from the iTunes device list when I disconnect the USB cable. But when I plug it into a power adapater, after a few seconds it reappears in the iTunes device list. I did notice that after unplugging from the power adapter, it stays in the iTunes device list for a long time, but eventually disappears. Are you implying it should never disappear from the device list?

Interesting that all your devices are listed even when not connected. Did it always work this way, even before iTunes 10.5 / iOS 5? Does the device list survive restarting iTunes? My iTunes always starts without even showing the Devices heading in the sidebar. When a device connects, either through the USB cable or wifi sync, iTunes then shows the Devices heading and the device in the sidebar. When the device is disconnected, the device and the Devices heading disappear from the sidebar. I am using Windows 7, I will try this on my MacBook to see if the behavior is different.

I just restarted iTunes and the two devices that are active on my LAN showed in the list. My spouse's iPhone 4 is with her, but I suspect it will show when it gets an ip address on the LAN when she comes home. Prior to iOS 5 and iTunes 5, devices fell off when they were not connected to USB.

Have you rebooted lately? Some posts say this has helped.
