Downloading photos to IPOD results in "The iPod cannot be updated." message

iPod has update 2006-01-10

Using iTunes>Edit>Preferences>iPod>Photos
(1) Selected option "Choose folder"
iPod finds 16 photos
(2)Click OK
iPod returns message:
"The iPod "Dom's" cannot be updates.
The disk could not be written from or written to."

Windows, Windows 2000, iTunes 6.0.2.23
