Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages. The phone now only says No Sim. I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine. I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM. Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already. Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone 😟

Hey pluck007,

Same issue with me, you can use the phone normally if you turn off Cellular Data setting (Settings > General > Network). You can still access the Internet through WiFi without facing SIM failure issue every 5 minutes

This is a workaround which worked for me. But for sure I am waiting for Apple for at least to talk about this issue.

Same thing for iPhone 4S bought in Canada unlocked and being used in Argentina with Movistar. Today I changed the SIM card. Problem persisted. Battery drains FAST even under 5.0.1. The worst thing is that I recommended a Blackberry user to jump to iPhone and he's incommunicated. Tried disconnecting Cellular Data and it seems to be working since I started to write this blog entry. After 40.000 views and reports from all over the world and carriers Apple is still doing anything?!

I have the same problem. Called Apple Care in China just now. The first lady couldnt solve my problem so she got me a "senior engineer" to answer my question. I told the guy I started to experience the problem after install IOS 5.1. The "senior engineer" insists there is nothing wrong with iphone 4S nor IOS 5.1. He claims the no signal problem is a result of the current mobile network in China being incompatible with iPhone 4s, as the model is currently not out in China yet.

I don't know if this is true but don't think all of us having the same problem share similar background (i.e.brought back iphone 4s from another country, as iPhone 4s is not out in where you live yet)...

same problem happened to my unblocked Iphone 4S brought in Italy and being used in the same country.

When I bought and connected to internet, immdieately updated to IOS 5.0.1, so I didn't experience that passage with 5.0.0 no error but with 5.0.1 there is error.

I would like to point out it seems that this problem is linked to the acttivate/disacttivate sim PIN.

when i put the new sim card, I switched off the sim PIN function, it took very long time to apply my request, then the signal bar disappeared, saying "searching network". after few hours, arrived this error.
