Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages. The phone now only says No Sim. I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine. I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM. Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already. Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone 😟

Hi, I've bought for the first time in my life an new iPhone 4s 32Gb via Vodafone in Italy. After one hour I had the same sim card failure. I've attempted the following:

- move from regular SIM to a brand new micro-SIM;

- re-initialize micro-SIM via Vodafone call centre (remaining 4 hours without signal);

- change micro-SIM with a new one, just few hours ago, and I had the problem showing again.

Tomorrow I'll call back Vodafone support and if they won't provide any valid solution or workaround I'll withdraw from the contract and buy another phone (Nokia Windows Phone)! 🙂

Unfortunately I've bought recently also an iPad, but once sold on eBay I won't buy any other Apple product. They definitively suck, don't provide any reasonable cost/quality rate and I'm definitively afraid that the future will be even worse.

If Apple wants beta testers please pay for it or do not pretend to be paid 600-800 bucks for immature and bugged products.

Thanks&Bye.

After having replaced 2 iPhone 4S' and 3 SIM cards (I even started all fresh with no restore on the latest iPhone replacement, I still got the "No SIM" or "Invalid SIM card" message. BUT I have good news - I now know whats wrong (others have found this out too). The Micro SIM is touching the metal tray slightly causing the SIM card to short circuit. To deal with this, just get a few new SIM cards and hopefully one of them will be cut in a way so that it doesn't touch. Alternatively, you can get a standard SIM card and cut it out yourself so that it fits (Google how to do this). Hopefully, Apple will soon offer all of us a new tray that's correctly designed so we don't have to worry about this going forward...

Here's what I said in another thread about the tape thing:

"After reading all the threads on this, I'm pretty sure the tape thing is a red herring ... the SIM tray is insulated in the crucial location. Have a close look at the colour of the metal on the outside, and compare with the colour of the rests for the Micro-SIM. The tray has been coated with some grey paint. I have tested it with multimeter probes, and I can confirm that is insulated."

If you have a SIM tray that is not insulated, get it replaced!
