Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages. The phone now only says No Sim. I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine. I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM. Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already. Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone 😟

Adamtha,

Hi I don't know if anyone has responded to you yet but unfortunately once you have upgraded from OS 5.0 to 5.01 you cannot downgrade back.

The option in my case after all the suggestions given here was to have my phone replaced and have it on OS 5.0 and now its been 3 weeks of blisss and peace except a quick draining battery...& that I can live with for now...

Please try like suggeted in other postings here to send your feed back to Apple direct so that we can build up the awareness...I am in Kenya and one of the few fortunate who could get a replacement but ony after almost 3 months of struggling with the other one!

Sad indeed and wish you all the best.

Hello joembaguio,

I believe you have a good pointhere, I'm in Mexico and also facing this SIM issue, I followed the instructionson this document:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4148

But the phone is still givingme problems.

I looked at your previous postand ask around the firmware in all the iphones that are working fine and all ofthem are using other firmware rather than 1.0.14

Do you know if there is any wayto change it?

Hi Alex,

I'm also in Mexico having the same SIM problem. I have a friend with a same model phone, we bought it at the same time. She is having no problem at all with the 9A405 baseband firmware 1.0.13 and me 9A406 with baseband 1.0.14 having all the time invalid and error SIM. Returning to 9A405 will not downgrade my baseband firmware version. So I'm stuck until a new release with baseband update is available :(

Greetings

Running 1.0.13 and have had no problems (fingers crossed).

My daughter's phone has had the SIM problem. I will check her phone tonight and post what firmware she is using. Would have waited to post, but found it very interesting that everyone using 1.0.13 has been SIM problem free. Those using 1.0.14...not as lucky. Small data sample space so hard to tell. Still...

I'm back. I checked my daughter's iPhone 4S and she is running 1.0.13. Hm...Since her phone has had a SIM FAILURE I was sorta hoping it was 1.0.14. That would have supported a growing hypothesis that the problem lies somewhere with 1.0.14.

BUT! My daughter's "failure mode" is different than many posters here. Her iPhone 4S has had the "SIM FAILURE" only once now in a little less than 2 months. Unfortunatley, the phone failed at the same time her car broke down late at night in a very rural area. So, this SIM problem still spooks me because I am concerned that her phone may fail again...and in a situation where she REALLY needs to make a call.

I don't know how common "SIM FAILURES" are under normal circumstances. My daughter had not shut down her iPhone 4S for about a month when her SIM FAILURE occurred (she had just put it to sleep). Perhaps her SIM FAILURE resulted from never shutting down her phone and clearing out all the crap that can accumulate in a phone that is never shut down. Since her SIM FAILURE, she has totally shut down her iPhone overnight at least twice a week.

Sorry, this is long winded. Bottom line...even though my daughter's iPhone 4S is NOT running 1.0.14 and it had a SIM FAILURE, 1.0.14 may still have something significant to do with the SIM FAILURE of many posters here.

Dabratisaurus42,

thanks for your kind reply, indeed i noticed after restoring

though fo some reason i dont get the sim errors anymore

this is what i did:

1. sync with itunes to save data

2. disconnect from itunes and remove sim

3. reset phone to manufacturer (delete everything)

4. set as new phone (instead of using a backup)

5. put sim back when asked

5. sync with itunes

all is well for the last 2 days hoping it will stay like this

and for this issue to be solved for all of us asap

Version 5.0.1 (9A406)

Baseband 1.0.14

I have had my 4s for a few weeks. Yesterday it started the "SIM Failure", "No SIM card installed" scenerios. Per suggestions found here, I have gotten it to work temporarily by shutting it down in airplane mode and then once I turn it back on, turn off airplane mode. This doesn't always work on the first try. I have also had success taking out the SIM card and putting it back in. ALL OF WHICH seem to be only temporary.

The failure has happened while using SIRI, using my headphones, as well as in the middle of a call. Not sure if any of these are related. Luckily I still have my old phone so am not caught without a phone.

AT&T suggested I wipe-out my phone and restore from a back-up. I think this would be a temporary solution as well. So, unless I have to, I am not trying this.

I am not near an AT&T store, so they are mailing me a new SIM card free of charge. Hopefully, this will take care of this annoying problem.
