Q: Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages.  The phone now only says No Sim.  I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine.  I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM.  Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already.  Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone

You should find a developer who can add your iPhone to his account. There is some paid service for that. Try "add UDID to developer account" in Google to find it.

My iPhone with iOS5.1b1 has the same problems like it was with 5.0.1 But to check some things I've replaced my SIM-card for card of another operator and it works now without any problems!

A little video I found on why not to put tape on your SIM Card tray.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAUpnmzd_3s&feature=fvwp&NR=1

This person pulled up the insulating rubberized paint when he pulled out the tape.  The end result is that it shorted the SIM and cooked his iPhone.

    TAPE = BAD IDEA

You don't need to be a developer (but ofc you can subscribe if you wish). You just need to find another developer who can add your iPhone to his account.

Taping a sim does not make sense to me, I took out sim+tray from 4s and put as is into 4 and it starts working... Also, per my observation, even if short appears, it is between GND and 2 NOT USED contacts, so it doesn't really short.

    UPDATE:

I've used the tape to isolate an upper part of my simcard last night... it's been almost 24 hrs and my phone works just fine.. Don't know if the tape did the trick but it works... hope it will last though

Guys. I found the reason for Sim failure. I was thinking that this error occurs at any time, there is no particular time or event that throw this particular error. I think the diagnostics report in the phone is the

Main reason of this failure. I tried taping of sim, different sims, restoring. But nothing has worked so far. So i switched off the diagnotics n usage setting to not send automatically. It has worked for me. Try this solution..

    hey guys

latest update of this famous SIM failure error.

I just pulled out the SIM from the fone, hard rebooted it and started using it without SIM.

I still got SIM failure after some time.

I dnt know whats going on with my Iphone.. My observation clearly suggest that SIM has nothing to do with this Failure mesaage.

i m just waiting for 5.0.2 Update, if the problem still exists i will give it for replacement.

Tried everything, nothing seemed to solve the problem. Needed to be restarted more than 10 times a day. Sometimes, before changing into no sim status, the signal bar become 0, but the 3G sign is still on, I can still connect to the internet, although no telephony function could be made. If I tried to make a phone call, than It will try to search, and search, and search, and no sim again. iPhone 4shutdown, the most shutdown iPhone yet

    Ok, here my status update.

    - I do also not believe it has anything to do with the actual sim. I have had SIM failures while my phone was in flight mode.

    - I updates my phone yesterday to 5.1 beta and in the last 24 hours (while i normally have at least 5 resets a day) I have not had any issues !!! ;-)  So for me, hope I am not jumping the gun, the problem is fixed with 5.1

I had the same problem on my new iphone 4 S , soI asked help from my line operator , they couldnt solve the problem . So I begun to innovate and trying, in the end , i found a part of the solution; I tried a sim from another operator , it WORKS, the problem was the operator's sim , it was a large one , the second is small without one copper edge , but why ?? both of sims work on iphone 4 and all other mobile phones. I had to send messages to all my list of contact to inform them my new number .I lost time and money , thanks to APPLE. ( Nabil from Lebanon)
