Q: Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages.  The phone now only says No Sim.  I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine.  I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM.  Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already.  Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone

I'm having the same issue too with a 64 gb sprint iphone 4s along with wifi and reception issues.  Running 5.0.1. I tried 2 restores now, (one with setting up as a new phone) removing and putting the sim back in.  I think I'm going to go to sprint now.  I seen that replacing the sim fixed the issue for a lot of people.

I still do not understand why changing sim, knowing the fact that it worked on 5.0. I guess in this case it should not be an end user concern!!!

Me too. Unlocked iPhone 4s 16gb black. All of a sudden it appeared a message that said no sim card.

Rebooted the device and reset networks settings for several times. Finally the phone got signal from at&t but can not make a phone call or send a text message. Problem solved by restore the device to factory settings. I think this is a hard or software problem because i tried several other sim card but none of them works during that period.

I got my phone exchanged. It came preloaded with 5.0.1 -> all seems to be working, for now...

but kinda strange: I am a little excited when I check and see that I can make phone calls, with my phone... ;-)

I'm on my 3rd iPhone because of this issue.  Apple will not admit that there's a problem an VZW acts likes it a new problem.  I have used the "tape" so I can keep the sim card inserted.  I'm afraid that I will loose it if I take it out.

Has anyone with this issue travel abroad where they need their sim card to work?  If so what's happened?

I have iphone 4s with latest 5.0.1 only for 6 weeks.  Just happened this morning with error: invalid SIM then no SIM.

Recyled power worked for few minutes then back to same error.  I removed SIM and cleaned it and now it seems OK bur not too confident.  It happens again i think there's more to it than just reseting the SIM.. suspec may be hardware, firmware error etc...

I have my second iPhone 4S 16gb (replacing firstone with 5.0.1),  Model starts with MD2 and iOS 5.0.0, and a new SimCard... everything it's ok, but after 5 hours, the famous message appears... The message appears inmediately when i activate 3G, so, i'm deactivate and everything goes fine again, i beleave this is a mix problem, hard+soft, I don't dare to upgrade and I waiting for an official Apple response, It's a fantastic piece of technology!!! come on Apple!!! do something!!!!

I am getting sim failures every 2/3 hours on my iphone 4s. I didn't have any problems until I upgraded to 5.0.1, I have tried to restore to factory settings but I'm forced to install 5.0.1 when trying that.

My battery is also worse, the usage stats are all incorrect for example after charging before I go to bed, I will wake and the usage stats will say the phone has been in use for 5-6 hours, it's ridiculous. What is going on, do I need to return my phone or wait for 5.0.2??

Even the complete/ultimate restore and purely new setting of iphone 4s did not help me, still getting sim failure.

What i am actually testing now is: restoring all settings and set up a new iphone (to be sure it is pure). Then activating it with new apple id and cloud disable (only thing enabled is wi-fi and 3g). As I have a very unstable connection at home it does not usually take long before the sim failure arrives - after that iphone is unable to find ceullar after it is lost (right now it is able). Sooo i will leave it rest till next morning. If I see sim failure again... well dunno what might help, i would have to use another phone.
