Q: Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages.  The phone now only says No Sim.  I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine.  I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM.  Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already.  Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone

yes connect it without sim and then restore the fone.

disconnect it frm itunes after getting msg dat phone is restarting and it will show in itunes

At activation only  wen it will ask for sim then only insert ur sim click on try again. it will serach for ur sim and u will get the signal.

For sim  faliure u hav to change the Carrier as for me 2 sims frm same carrier havent worked.

I did as you advised. My sim was unlocked and registered. I have signal as before. Full bars now. After restoring it from the backup i still have the same error in itunes about update and carrier (as on screen shot).

I'll tell about connection stability after backup finished.

So I never made it to the sprint store but I removed the sim card and cleaned it with a dry cloth and put it back in the phone and my service quality has been better and I've haven't seen a sim error is over 24 hours now.

I've had this sort of problem intermittently over the years (I've owned 2G, 3GS, 4) and each time that has happened it is just a matter of popping out the sim and cleaning up the metal contact surfaces. Though, toward the end of the life of my 2G even that would not do it. But if you looked at the SIM card, it was really scarred up. So constantly removing and re-inserted could have its ill effects in the long run.

500+ posts and 50k+ view on this thread, and, nop, no sign of urgency on the apple side

    Sim failure...

Sim failure? I think this is a bigger failure than that on Apple's part. Even with this high a number of views though, we're still a very small percentage of Apple's devices.

I was one of the first few posters on this thread, and count myself fortunate the issue hasn't come back on my 4S since then. I hope it doesn't return, but if it does, the phone is going back to Apple. I didn't buy my 4S to be an iPod. I bought it to be a phone - my family's primary phone. If it's so fatally, fundamentally flawed that it can't perform that basic function reliably, why would I keep it?

Apple has no reason to care about any of these issues. They care about keeping their stockholders happy, and they, in turn, care about money. So give Apple a reason to care. Vote with your feet and your wallets. They won't sit up and take notice if you don't. If you can't get your device working with a simple visit to whatever support you have available in your region, return it. Ask for your money back on the 4S and all accessories, and go spend it on one of Apple's competitors, whose device actually does what it's advertised to do.

What are you waiting for? Apple hasn't answered in what, months? Are you waiting for your return window to expire? I bet Apple is. If you like the 4S too much to return it, then evidently you are happy with what it does do well, for the price you paid. Keep the toy, and go buy a real phone. It's always been the rule that a device dedicated to one purpose will do that purpose best. The 4S is trying to be many things...and perhaps is a jack of all trades, and master of none. Like a Swiss-army knife - has a tool (app) for everything, but you wouldn't really want it at a knife fight.

If you went and bought a new Porsche, and it stalled for several minutes every couple miles, and the dealer wouldn't say a word about the issue, or just as bad, they replace it and the issue persists across multiple vehicles, how long would you wait to get your money back and buy an ordinary vehicle that actually did what it was built to do? Be real nice to take your girlfriend for a spin, only to have her help push it to the curb. Would you wait until you lost your job for not being able to arrive on time? Would you wait until you get rear-ended or caught in the middle of an intersection? It doesn't matter how sexy it is if it doesn't work.

Granted, phone and car are different, but the same principles apply. What about that life-changing phone interview? Bet they'd love to have you 'hang up on them'...they wouldn't call you back. Or, perhaps missing that call that your wife is having the baby, and so you don't get to be there. Or that last call from a creditor before they report you to the credit agency and screw up your credit history for the next 7-10 years.

So, I encourage you folks to quit complaining, and start returning. Stick it to them.

I bought two iPhones, one for myself and the other one for my mom. My mom's worked perfectly. Mine was another story, my sim card was stuck inside, it asked me for PIN.

I thought it was hardware problem. In the end, I ask the service to remove it for me. After that, i foudn out that it couldnt detect ALL sim. Tried different cards.

It took me awhile to be sure that this is Apple's side problem. We own two Macs, 4 iPads, 6 iPods, and never had problem. It takes a while for me to be really sure that it's a defect. Hopefully, Apple can address this. I will try to return it tomorrow.

Got 4S 16GB unlocked (GSM SIM) with 5.0.1. Every day or two it falls into "No service" until I reboot it. I'm missing a lot of calls, maybe I shall switch to the old phone until they fix it.

My iPhone 4S worked perfectly for 3-4 weeks, no drops, no problems, anything. I updated to 5.0.1 and still worked perfectly for about week. And LAST week it had sim failure every 5-6 hours.. I am now on 5.1 beta but nothing changed.. I don´t really know what to do.. I tried sim from my ipad, it looks same and didn´t work too..

Guys, try another cellular provider. It solved the problem for me.

I have used Megafon-Russian with sim failure issue on my Iphone 4s 32. After triyng everything mentioned here, I switched to MTS-Russia and that's it. No sim failure issues at all!

It seems now this is a mobile proveder issue (at least in some cases) and not quite connected with the sim-card itself...

Yet, Apple failed to predict it, to solve it, finally to inform users...

    Regards.
