Q: Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages.  The phone now only says No Sim.  I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine.  I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM.  Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already.  Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone

    I've few updates to share:

    1. I'm actually in US and I disabled the data roaming (so no "3G" signal in the up left corner) in order to avoid to spend a lot of money in traffic and since then NO error messages has been shown. It's now 4 days without turning off the phone, while previously I had at least 3 "no sim" messages a day and I was obliged to reboot.

    2. I do notice that when errors appeared in Italy it frequently was in the same time windows during the day: at lunch time, around 1pm and during the afternoon around 5-6pm. It seems strange but I've a good statistics about it.

My provider is Vodafone Italy, I have an iphone 4S 32Gb updated to 5.0.1 and have changed sim card twice.

I'm also boired to read about this ISSUE without any Apple feedback. It's the last time for me with an iphone since it's not business effective at all, above all for battery limitations and for all these issues that are tipical of a low level retail products.

Where is now the Apple Company we all gave our money???

This same problem happened to me, starting intermittently last week, with the NO SIM and then cascading in frequency until today, when the SIM card's been unrecognized all day.  I am voting that my carrier AT&T shipped a batch of faulty SIM cards…

    Та же проблема.

Seems like Apple doesn't care any more about their customers.

NO REACTION from Apple. No update.

Sad. We'll vote with our money.

    Same issue.

I'm on Verizon (CDMA) so I simply removed the sim card.  Works fine with no sim in place, but I'll keep updated to the cause of failure to see if I should replace the hardware.

Hey guys! here is an update from me:

I asked my friend in the States to call on my behalf to Apple Customer Care and ask what is the solution for the problem with connection I am having. Their reply shocked my friend and me. They said that Apple has upgraded the hardware of the iPhone4s and it might not support some simcards offered by different carriers, meaning that we should use the latest simcards only... what if we are not in the States and my carrier offers only one type of simcard??? The Apple techinican said that in this case there is nothing much I can do about it. No solution of this problem can be offered my Apple. He asked to address my concerns to my Service provider in my country.

    Hi All,

SIM Failure - INVALID SIM is happening to me about 3 times a day.

I spoke to a guy in another forum who suggested that it could be the gold SIM card contacts shorting on the metal SIM card tray.

I had a look at my SIM last night, and the contacts seem to be almost touching the metal tray.

I think this is the problem - so the latest SIM card advice mentioned above seems the way forward...

    Dear Matt

I am afraid this is not the case. First of all, on ios 5.0 sim worked. Second, I managed to find micro sim card which did not touch metall cage of sim card holder for sure and with this sim card phone behaved the same way.

    Hi

    This is bad news!

It was happening on iOS 5.0, I updated to 5.0.1 (I think) and nothing has changed...

Do you think it is an OS issue?

Have Apple published ANYTHING about this problem? I can see that around 100,00 people have viewed threads in Apple forums alone on this issue.

    Matt

I do not know true this or not, but for those who has 128k sim cards and up problem do not exists. At least 3 another iPhones 4s with modern sims work good but in another carrier network. I did not try my iPhone with them yet.

i have had about 6 invalid SIM or No SIM errors in the first 24 hrs with an ATT 4s supplied with SIM. Intermittently all systems work, and restarting or resetting often fixes the problem - for a little while. It is distressing and, if it continues, it means I will have to change - perhaps back to the previous iphone which never gave me any such probems.
