Q: Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages.  The phone now only says No Sim.  I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine.  I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM.  Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already.  Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone

I just got a new sim from Virgin Mobile. I used the sim card cutter very carefully to avoid cutting any of the metal parts. I blew on it. I checked the sim pin was turned off and it still failed. Put it in my 4 and it is working fine.

This is not an issue with the sim cards, this is a defect in the 4S. I will be returning mine now as I have lost patience and spend too much time on this.

It is now day 5 and I am getting fed up with this.  I have ordered another new sim from my network provider (Orange in the UK).  In the meantime, every hour I have to turn my phone off and then on again in order to reboot when I get "Sim Failure" message and then network says "Invalid Sim".  I am quite worried now.  I will wait for the replacement sim to arrive and if the message continues, I am going back to Apple for a replacement phone.  I should not be inconvenienced in this way for £600.

It is quite obvious the problem is wide spread (look at Google searches, Twitter and discussion boards here).  Apple need to make a statement and give a solution.

I ejected and reseated my SIM on Sunday morning. No problems since. I'm inclined to subscribe to the notion, that there is a design flaw in the SIM tray and it's closure mechanism which can cause the SIM to ground/short. The tape or nail polish solutions will be my next step if it happens again.

I started having this problem after 2 days with my 4S.  Resets, hard resets, and popping the SIM all seem to have sporadic effect at resetting the problem.

Am going to ATT store here in a minute to get a new SIM see if that helps.  Although it seems it may be software based seeing as 4's and 3GS's appear to be having this problem as well when they update to iOS5.

I got a new SIM card yesterday morning and it has worked flawlessly since then.  Hopefully that did the trick.

Update with my invalid sim card issue. I went to my local AT&T store and they replaced my sim card last night. I haven't had any issues yet. Hopefully this resolved the problem. I did notice that the replaced sim card looked different from what came with the phone. The store rep did mention that the sim cards that come with the phone are a little smaller and tend to move around which causes the issue.

+1 used the phone for the first time on a long conversation and it started happening, now very often. Seems like some hardware problem with heating?

I have the 4S 64 GB for a day. Same issue as the rest,NO SIM!!  Powering down worked once, removing sim worked twice, two days later NOTHING WORKED. Went to AT&T store, they claimed they hadn't heard of this problem, gave me a new sim, still working as of now (4hrs.later). I will update if this problem re-occurs. Side Note: AT&T Sent me an e-mail before I had gotten to the store stating Apple is aware of problem and to contact them directly. Apple was CLUELESS (well at least the rep I spoke with) She tried to sell me a protection plan before even listening to my concern. She was less than helpful and sent me E-mails stating how to sync my phone to itunes??? ***??? If they are well aware of problem then how come I am still in the dark about what happened and why? I can only hope this doesn't happen again...if it does I am abandoning this whole Apple thing. It bothers me that I cannot get a straight answer from anyone after spending $400. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE PERIOD.

I have 2 4S's, one has the problem, one does not.  Thank god it is my phone with the problem and not my wife's, she'd be flipping out.  Sometimes doing reset works quick, sometimes I have to shut the phone off for an hour before it comes back.  Going to AT&T this evening and see what they say, maybe try new SIM.
