Q: Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages.  The phone now only says No Sim.  I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine.  I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM.  Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already.  Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone

Few weeks back I used to get Invalid Sim message once or twice a day. Then a week later I would just loose signal and it would work again only after I restart my phone.

2 days ago I decided to try to manually select the carrier and did work! It's been almost 2 days without any problems!

    Hi all,

    I got my 4S 16GB Sim-Free in Israel (Orange)

I got it on 5.0 and had no problems at all.

Then, I updated to 5.0.1 and problems has started:

I takes it over 2 minutes to connect to carrier after reboot (sometimes it doesn't connect at all, so another reboot helps), so do with switching the Flight Mode on and off.

The signal stripes turn up and down all day long, and sometimes even doesn't have signal.

Of course, I have the Invalid Sim Error twice a day (I need to reboot twice),

so I have signal only 2 hours a day.

I must say that the Sim Card worked perfectly in an iPhone 4.

Apple, I hope that you will fix that, because I'm starting to get rid of it.

This is what I get because I moved from a contestant phone to an iPhone?

    Update:

My internet 3G still works without the SIM card! The iPhone doesn´t "feel" when I remove it...

Curious is that when a try to remove the another carrier prepaid SIM, I just receive a popup message "NO SIM CARD INSTALLED".

Hallelujah brothers! Apple have provided a solution...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4148

They fixed existing version 5.0.1. Don't need to wait until 5.0.2 will be released.

The previous version for 5.0.1 was 9A405. The mentioned solution helped me and now my phone works fine. Now version of 5.0.1 is 9A406.

I've checked two different cards (previously one of them not working at all) and both are working fine.

Hi gnoble76. That's great news. Finally Apple have listened to its customers. All the calls I made to Apple. I told them to look at this forum. Maybe some one did. And saw all you good people with problems. And finally decided to fix it. After they said there was no problem. Good on you folks for people power. Oh, and by the way this new version. Has worked for me to. Untill the next problem folks. Ta Ta and a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

I went to the link given by gnoble76 and read the post.  Maybe I'm just being picky, but I noticed that Apple does not refer to "SIM FAILURE" as one of the possible messages the iPhone 4S displays when it fails.  However, that IS the exact message my iPhone 4S displayed when it stopped working.  Is it possible that this fix addresses those failures that produce only the messages quoted in Apple's post and does not address failures that produce the "SIM FAILURE" message?

Sishome, I'm curious, did your iPhone 4S display the message "SIM FAILURE" or one of the messages quoted in the Apple Post?

Mr. Luigi, mine says sim failure in popup, and then invalid sim in the top left part of the screen where the network name should be. Apparently, the update did the opposite: now the phone crashes every 5-10 minutes... Weird.

Sishome, My "SIM FAILURE" notification appeared as a popup too.  But, in my case, where the network name should be (Verizon for me) it said, "No Service"...even though I was in an area of known satisfactory service.  I have never received the "invalid Sim" notification anywhere.  Now we have more variables.  Tougher equation to solve.

    Yes indeed.  Weird.

This new 5.0.1 (9A406) firmware fixes NOTHING.

Seems I have "NO NETWORK" even more often now.

No.. The patch over 5.0.1 didn't solved the problem..

Still sim failure after a while.

I going to wait till next patch before considering

    Moving to Samsung galaxy 2S.

    Vary disappointment from Apple.

This is my cross-post to this topic from other one.

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3481455?start=195&tstart=0

    "

    5.1 doesn't help.

Changed my sim.. Almost all the same, only finds network a little bit faster. But SIM Failure 3-4 time a day is normal.

    See it again - it's 5.1 (!!!) with f/w 1.4.0.

I have no more clues what to do. Just swipe it again and see if a cleared one will do the same."

And yes. We also confirm that modem f/w 1.14.0 of 5.0.1/406 does nothing good.

the same problems with signal after updating. And I really have no idea why apple didn't tell us about this problem. If I need another model of sim let's they tell which model I need or what I have to do with phone that can't call and sen masseges.
