Q: Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages.  The phone now only says No Sim.  I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine.  I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM.  Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

 

 

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

 

 

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already.  Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone

    Lucky you. I even tried with DFU mode recovery. Did not help with connection. But battery handles better.

    UPDATE:

     

    I have restored and updated my iPhone to  iOS 5.0.1 build 9A406 over 50 hrs ago and haven't been experiencing any problems ever since...  I really hope it won't ever happen again.

    I had the very same issue on my iphone 4 when it first came out, kept getting this error message at least 6 times day. Looking back I was an idiot for putting up with it for nearly 2 weeks and it waas only coming onto a forum that suggested a genius bar that made me take it back. I got a replacement and have had no issues since and that will be 2 years next June. I am very very suprised the 4s is showing the same problems however not upgrading until the 5 comes out and even then will wait for the first in the queue to be the " beta buyers" as it were . I'm sure you will get sorted out as the customer service in my case was excellent !

    The last fix didn't solved the problem...still turn off and on 8-9 times in a day..

    why apple refused to release message to all clients

    That this problem is known and fix will be release soon.

    Uncertainty would hurt Apple's future business

    After the update I got the problem also 4-5 times a day which made me try the factory reset described in a recent posting:

    1. Plug in to iTunes and back up.

    2. Hold down the power (top) button and the home (bottom) button together for approx 8 seconds.

    3. Release the TOP BUTTON ONLY after 8 seconds. As iTunes begins to restore the phone you can release the bottom button.

    4. The phone will go back to the factory settings. You can then restore from your save back up.

    Did this yesterday afternoon and since then no SIM Error. I am still going to replace the SIM card this week but not having the problem for a couple of hours make me think that this reset did something good.

    Hi Stefan,

     

    I've bought my new iPhone 4 S in November in Singapore, but we are based in Philippines; since I brought my new phone to philippines, and then the message "invalid sim" or "no service" were constantly showing up on display; we tried all the suggestions, and nothing could help; the last Sunday I read your message &amp; followed exactly what you wrote, IT WORKED! I got my service back, there's no more 'invalid sim' message! Hope that's constant!

     

    The procedure what you suggested is automatically reinstalling the same version 5.0.1; so I presume Apple have already renewed the software 5.0.1 onto 5.0.1, just without informing!

    A quick update on my earlier post.......

     

    Having gone through the procedure that 'genius B' explained to me, I arrived home only to experience the same 'invalid sim' issue. Gutted.

     

    So. Off I went to see another 'genius' at the Leicester Apple Store on Sunday (I've spent a good percentage of my weekend trying to sort this **** out!). She gave me a brand new phone. It's been 27 hours now and so far so good. I hope I'm not tempting fate again by posting this................

     

    It appears that there's no one solution to our problem. I would think there are a few dodgy batches of phones knocking around that require different solutions....just my thoughts on the matter.

     

    If genius B's DFU restore has helped you then fantastic! If not, ask for another phone. It seems the only way around it from what I can see. This is my 3rd phone in less than 2 months - let's hope it's 3rd time lucky. Because if it isn't.....bye bye Apple, hello Blackberry.

    New build does not help for everyone. I did recovery using DFU mode 3 times and phone still nor working with my local carrier while working with Austrian sim card in roaming. Problem exists. I hope that all guys who solved problem in home network will not go traveling to network where iPhone will not work like it happened with my colleague.

    With firmware 5.01 (406) Problem not solved for me too!

    Make normal assemblage of new firmware!

    When it comes to iPhone 4S issues I truly believe I had them all and after this new updated I gave it a shot and this is what I did.

    First, I tried the regular restore as shown by Apple but for some reason my device wasn't eligible for it so I did the following;

    1. backed up my iPhone

    2. downloaded the so called tweaked update (9A406) from Apple site

    3. connected iPhone to mac, started iTunes and pressed ALT key and clicked on restore and pointed to the downloaded (9A406) ipsw file and iTunes did the rest

         after restore I did as a NEW, not from backup. plugged in my microSIM I was having issues with and for the last day or so NO, and yes that's right NO issues. I can finally use my phone... so I made a phone call after phone call, sms after sms. Changed the SIM pin, turned it off, removed SIM card I did all kinds of testing to see if the issues would come back and so far and keep in mind it's been some 24 hours or so everything's working as it should. Battery life is great. After some 24 hours of normal usage I still have 66% left and keep in mind I was doing all kinds of testing since my last full charge.

    So for me so far so good, but like I said it's been only some 24 hours.

    I try a lot of methods. I restore with DFU, like new phone, restore network settings, chage sim card to another and always problem comes back in few hours. And even new update to 5.0.1 (A406) didn't help. I wrote to Apple bug report, they asked me to send them logs from my iPhone. I'm like idiot sending this logs for a month and nothing, they even didn't answer to my bug reports on site. More then month I didn't have fullworking phone.

     

    Apple, is it normal???

    an update from my post 9 days ago... to reiterate, bought my new iphone 4s in Seattle 12/9 at ATT store... traveled to Oakland next day... sim card issues started some 30 hours after buying phone (after traveling)... got new sim at ATT in Oakland Saturday December 10... absolutely NO sim issues since (in LA since 12/12)... battery life still ***** IMO, but the MAIN issue of the phone not working due to Sim issues seems to have been resolved with new card ONLY, I did NOT upgrade to this new beta OS.

     

    Not sure if we'll ever really know what the problem is, if a bad batch of sims, AREA of bad batch of sims, bad hardware in iPhone, a combination thereof, who knows... but, if it were me, for those of you still suffering the SIM issue, I would keep going back to get new ones, at different stores, and see if it doesn't cure itself. Since APPLE is not being of ANY HELP on the issue (it seems this OS update is useless for most), and lots of us have had luck with new sim cards, seems like the best solution at this time.

    From Mexico: I have this problem about 24 hours after leave the store. I updated to 9A406, but the problem is still there!!! It´s incredible that this happen with and Apple device. An also, it´s incredible tha lack of "official" info from Apple. The silence is not going to resolve our (their) problems!

    Not good, none of the ideas did not help .. The problem there is no Apple store in Israel which requires me to send the device abroad .. waiting to see if Apple finally fix the problem by updating the software. Just hope it's not a hardware problem
