Q: Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages.  The phone now only says No Sim.  I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine.  I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM.  Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already.  Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone

just posted this one over at the "No Service" thread (which is related btw). This picture sums it up. "Searching", but "No SIM".

I tried all manipilations with sim card (changing, cleaning pins, scotch tape on pins) and upgarded to 9A406 according to official instruction. It worked for one day and now I still get "sim errors" 2-5 times a day! reboot iphone and sim is OK once again. Looks like it's a sw bug for me and I'm a IT guy with some expirience in such cases.

But what really frustrates me is that officially 5.1 is all about photostream feature with no reference that Apple acknoledges this issue and commits to fix it.

I sent a letter to Samsung PR department with a link to this forum, hope those guys will make buzz in press and Apple will work better.

btw I still love my iPad.

IT IS SO FRUSTRATING! I am getting so ****** off with it, it seems whenever I change mobile cell antenna that I'm connected to it happens!

APPLE - SORT IT OUT!!! URGENTLY!!!

Going to try the latest 9A406 update but I can see on here that it has not worked for many so I'm not giving it much hope. Surely it can't be THAT hard to solve this problem?!

I updated to 5.0.1 new build, restored from backup and it is now working, without getting a new SIM card. Has been working for 1.5 days now. Knocking on wood.

Has anyone been able to download and install iOS 5.0.1 (9A406) on an iPhone 4 NOT 4S?

I have an iPhone 4 NOT 4S and the issue is also on my phone, the problem does not appear every day but it is present from time to time.

    Thanks

Only those who experienced sim card failure know how annoying it is

Problem Fixed!   I have an iPhone 4s with AT&T and the phone unexpectedly displayed an error message that my SIM card was invalid.  It then subsequently displayed "No SIM" in the upper left-hand corner.  I tried all of the fixes listed on this post and nothing worked, so I gave up and drove to the AT&T store.  I learned that it was a faulty SIM card that wasn't making proper contact with the phone.  It is not an iPhone hardware issue.  The rep at the store went to the back and re-issued me a brand new replacement SIM card on the spot for no charge. The process took about 5 minutes for the rep to activate my new SIM card and I was off.  There was no charge to replace it and all of my data is intact.  I would recommend anyone with this problem to not waste their time trying all of the fixes and just go to your local wireless carrier and let them fix it for you for free.  Again, this is not a hardware issue - it's a SIM card defect.

I changed three times the SIM card.

The problem you had is a different problem described in this forum most of the problem began after the software upgrade to 5.0.1 to solve the battery problem was with version 5.
I just sent my iPhone to an Apple store so I could take a new one, hope the problem will not happen with the new device.

I had the 4S for a couple of weeks running iOS 5.0.0 and then updated to 5.0.1 - the trouble started.

Got SIM Error. Raised the issue with Apple and updated to a new 5.0.1 which didn't fix the issue.

Then got a new SIM Card from Vodafone. Problem got worse. Talked to Apple and got a new iPhone 4S within 24 hours.

The new phone was shipped with iOS 5.0.0 so I let it run for a while - no problem.

Updated OTA to 5.0.1 (the unpatched one) - no problem.

Updated via iTunes to 5.0.1 (the patchd one) - no problem.

Since several hours now I don't have any problems and battery life is very good.

Too early to dance on the table but I sense the new iPhone is not having any issues.

This problem is really weird I know that Apple is working hard on getting the problem resolved. If the new iPhone fix the issue than it's just adding another variable to the quotation.

Hope everyone is getting out of the troubles and have HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

    ./Stefan
