If you are interested, i created a simple app to save your Microsoft Word file in the iCloud Sync Folder (Mobile Documents), just open the app to save the file while Word is running. I don't have Pages, when I'll have it i'll create the app also for it

I tried to raise these problems with the resident Pages "Expert" at the Apple Store and got the "idiot" treatment.

Couldn't get him to actually look at the problem in a test transfer. Apparently it just works, without him being able to show it!

Wouldn't look at the issue of missing formatting in the iOS version of Pages either.

You may get the app for free.

    Download the iWorkTrial:

    http://www.apple.com/iwork/download-trial/

    and apply the late updater.

    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#iwork  select iWork 9.1

You will get full apps usable during 30 days.

After 30 days, they will become reader only.

What am I doing wrong? I have 3 files in icloud originally called "Lab 6" and "WANG QINGSONG". From my computer when I follow your instructions and drop the file called "untitled.doc" into the correct folder it does not upload to icloud at all. I also noticed that in my "Documents" folder I do not have seperate folders for each document like you do. What should I do to fix this?

    Hi kxzucsmunich

    I followed your instruction

I go Sys preference turn off doc and data sync

    And I restart my mac

And I turn on the doc and data sync

    And restart my mac again.

But I still can't find my mobile document.

Did you do anything else other than this and help you get back the mobile document.

Is anyone get the same problem.

How can I find the mobile document??

In addition to the no sync with iCloud problem, I also hate that I can't "save as" to put files in specific folders on my MacBook. Now I have versions all over the place. Who knows where they all are? They need to add back in the "save as" feature.

  • Level 8 Level 8 (41,790 points)

If your file are stored "all over the place", it's your own fault.

AutoSave save the file where it was before.

Duplicate + Save give you the ability to define the name and the fole location.

    2012-02-17T17.12.22.jpg

The screenshot above display the Save… dialog which is offered when we ask to save the document created by Duplicate.

If you get the small dialog :

    2012-02-17T17.15.50.jpg

we can't click the small black triangle allowing you to get the complete dialog for you !

If you are unable to take care of what you do, it's your fault, not Apple's one.

I have to agree with KOENIG Yvan, the same functionality can be derived from the new "Duplicate" command in the "File" menu. In fact, the versioning system should help reduce clutter because each version you save using the "Save a Version" command only saves the metadata used to represent the changes made, which takes very little space and is actually stored in a hidden directory on your system (where it causes no clutter). This makes a clear distinction between just saving an updated version of a document and creating a whole new document as a copy. The "Save as..." command was in some respects mislabled, as it didn't seem to articulate the fact that the document would be saved to a new file, leaving the current one untouched. After all, isn't "Save as" really the same as "Duplicate"?

I think your easiest solution is to get a Dropbox account

It work the same way as mobile me

I used to use mobile me, and since mobile ceased, I moved to Dropbox

    Which perform very well

Of course you can't expect the same layout or graphic design as apple

    But it do the job

I was disappointed about apple ceased the mobile me too

I thought was a good product, and even hosting iWeb

Maybe they need to move to a more complete iCloud sync with others app in the future

But I hope they are going to made the iWork sync work

But will be a challenge since iPhone iWork and Mac iWork is two different system

Of course I don't expect iWork on iPhone as powerful as Mac iWork

I had put a feedback to apple before, obviously not work

I had suggested them to study how doc to go. How they sync the changes only on mobile device, and apply the changes back to Mac through the software installed

Maybe apple should think about to have that software on his own server to sync their own iWork between iPhone and Mac

    To support their own product

do you think it's possible to put a dropbox folder into the Pages folder?

assuming i'm only using pages on my iOS devices, but the dropbox folder is shared with my peers as well. I always open from, work on, and save into the dropbox folder so my peers can stay updated on our group project. but it would be great if at the same time this document is pushed onto my iPad so i can read it on the go.

sorry i'm new to Mac but i believe you have the technical know-how to explore this possibility

I don't think dropbox will work for you in this way.

First dropbox is contain all file type.

But iwork on icloud folder work only on pages, number and keynote.

Even though you try to drop the dropbox in mobile document in your imac library.

It won't sync as it is not iwork format.

If you only use pages, number on ipad or iphone.

The best solution is keep using the icloud.

In my opinion. Pages on iphone and ipad for icloud is designed for microsoft user on mac or PC.(As microsoft can read iwork, only iwork can open microsoft.)

As they save you time to sent through iwork.com to yourself.

Because you can only go through icloud, or iwork to open your pages as word document, or save as word document when you creat on your ipad pages.

So the easiest way is icloud, so it all happened automatically and you can see all your file and folder on icloud same as what on you ipad.

Icloud iwork not really to facilitate pages on ipad to pages on mac. As they are not a same format too.

You will loose some format in between, but at least both understand each other.

If you have a mac using iwork, you can try what other people here recommended the mobile document in Library.

I tried, but not recommended, as all your document will have to separated by file types not by how you want to group them. Which is not the way how my brain function to file and organise things.

I file things base on event, projects, person etc... So it will have pages and number and keynote related to same category.

Since apple abundant mobileme, which is 3 months to go. I think the only solution is dropbox.

Which I always use, but later swap to mobile me, but now force back to dropbox.

This doesn't work anymore! If you are having trouble with this "Mobile Documents" folder, it's because you've updated your machine to 10.7.3. Apple has either accidentally removed this feature or purposely stopped the sync process.

I've found a few notes in various locations that the process that used to sync isn't on (at least not all the time). They had ways to turn the process back on in Terminal, but this doesn't seem like a planned use for this older before Mountain Lion.

In any case, don't worry. It's not supposed to work right now.

PS: there are some apps that turn this process on an use this folder. I guess sticky notes from the app store turns this on? But only while the app is on. Then the process is closed.

So, in a nutshell, it seems we cannot easily transfer a document from Mac desktop via Pages 09 into iCloud. I just bought Pages for my iPhone and iPad so I can work on a document. I have read through every work around and so far they are all dead ends. It's all coming back to me now as to WHY I had read the ifo re the Pages app for iPad and had never bought it prior to now..... the iTunes import idea is not working as i do not have a "tools" option in Pages on my Mac (possibly need a newer version?)  This is not helping!

If you find a solution I look forward to seeing it. just sign me:  "No time to visit the Apple store..." lol
