WiFi keep dropping after iOS 5 upgrade

After we upgraded our 2 iPhone 4's to iOS 5, my son's latest generation iPod, and my iPad 1 to iOS 5, they all seem to drop their connection rather quicly. I cannot understand why this is the case. Does anyone know why this might be happending? It is very frustrating, as I have restarted the router and all Apple devices. My iPhone acts like this as work, too.

I am having this problem on my iPhone 4, iPad 2, my wife's iPhone 4S, and both kids's iPod touch 4th Gen. Having the error on all devices lets me know the problem is real and big. This is ridiculous. I bought a brand new Airport Extreme base station today. Since it happened on every iOS device, I figured it had to be the router. I was wrong.

Please get this fixed quickly or at least get us a work around for now.

I am starting to think it has something to do with the way iOS 5 handles 5 GHz WiFi (vs 2.4 GHz). Coverage at 5 GHz can be finicky due to signal fade. That seems to characterize my experience. One moment I have a signal, then the next moment if I slightly move the phone, the signal gets lost. One would hope that in this situation the device would "fall back" to the better propagating 2.4 GHz signal, but instead it seems to be cutting over to 3G.

At least that's my theory...plan to test it this weekend.

Same problem. The ipad is inconsistent with its connection to the wifi. It was perfectly fine till the upgrade to IOS 5. The support team advised resetting network, resetting everything, nothing has cured the problem. The only thing left for me to do is to change the router. Unfortunately it appears that I can't roll back to the earlier IOS. Hope Apple takes care of this problem at the earliest

I did find a reply that has worked for me by Reiki Lotus as follows:

OK, here's the fix. My phone has been WiFi perfect for 24 hours now.

1. In Settings -> WiFi -> {your network}, click on Forget this Network.

2. Restablish a connection to the network you just dropped.

3. Once all the connection details have been filled in, go to the DNS field and replace everything that might be in there with this ip address: 208.67.222.222. This is the OpenDNS server.

This fixed the problem both at home and the office. I am also using WPA2 security and have not had an issue.

More info is at this site: http://www.madbot.org/?p=189.

Thanks,

Ned
