New iPhone 4s bluetooth won't pair with anything

New iPhone 4s 64GB Verizon.

Won't pair with Jawbone Jambox.

Or MacBook Pro 15" (OS X 10.6.8). Pairing code shows on MBP and iPhone, but pairing is unsuccessful.

Or Pioneer AS-BT100.

These are the only things I've tried to pair so far.

All these paired easily and intuitively to iPhone 3GS.

I like that answer and wish it were the case. Sadly, the Bluetooth on the 3GS is off. To remove all doubt, I turned the phone completely off. Also made sure the iPad's Bluetooth was off for good measure.

Still, the iPhone sees nothing anywhere it wants to pair with. I am left with

Settings > General > Bluetooth: On : Devices=Searching : Now Discoverable

The "Searching" timewheel is keen to spin to eternity.

If I activate BT on the MBP and run Bluetooth Setup Assistant, it sees the 4S and identiies it as a smartphone. Upon selecting "Continue," a code is generated on the MBP and received by the 4S. Okaying the code on the 4S gets a timewheel spinning. Eventually a "Pairing was unsuccessful" message appears on the iPhone.

The solution is that I'm an idiot. Everything's so easy after pairing, I had forgotten the comparatively onerous details of the pairing process.

In my defense, I spent the week fighting off a cold, deploying DayQuil to keep me at work when I should have taken a day off. By Friday, I was mostly over the cold but working a bit of a sleep deficit. Not at my sharpest.

Anyway, it's nice to star in one's own "Wanna get away?" ad.

I'll leave this post up so that anyone similarly unsharp might save themselves some embarrassment. Happy to take one for the team.

I am having similar problem. I have turned off all devices that have bluetooth in the house but my iPhone 4S is just searching and searching. I am trying to pair with ReSound hearing aid clip. I had it paired with my old 3G but now it does not pair with 4S. Also, I tried pairing with my MacBook Pro. It did see the computer but did not not complete the pairing process for some reason. The MacBook Pro showed up in list of bluetooth devices but it could not connect. In the case of the hearing aid clip it never found the device period, it just keep searching.

Just found my problem. There is one step hidden on a different page of instruction for ReSound that says hold one button for 7 seconds. After that the pairing completed. Have not figured out pairing with MacBook Pro yet but that is not a high priority.

BTW: Phone conversions over bluetooth to ReSound hearing aid is okay but music is very tinny.

Posted elsewhere. I was able to pair the new 4S by Bluetooth to the 2011 GMC Terrain and a Onstar FMV in another car without problems [did not use it long as it was a friend's phone so do not know if reliable connection] However, I did find that the Voice Dialing through the Bluetooth using the Phone's Contact no longer worked and apparently Siri is interferring with the location. Again, did not experiment long.

Next, I tried to connect the demo model in the AT&T store to my SoundID 510 unit and while the phone stated that it was trying to connect, ultimately stated that it was unable to pair. Waiting to see if issues resolved before I upgrade to 4S from the 4

I solved my first problem - that of pairing my 3GS with my Garmin GPS device after the iOS5 upgrade. After several more futile attempts, I "restored" the GPS to the factory bluetooth settings. I then started fresh by adding the iPhone; voila, it actually worked!

Now to figure out how to pair the iPhone with the navigation system in my other car (Infiniti G37)...

Apparently (i've read elsewhere here) the iphone is only designed to work on bluetooth with another hands free device. I have to say that having just got my brand new ipnone 4s i am disgusted with Apple over the fact i can't send a simple file to my imac via bluetooth on this £600 superphone when i can perform that simple function with a twenty quid handset from tesco's ! What are they playing at ...

I am having a very similar problem. I am trying to pair my iPhone 4s to my 13' MBP with 10.7.2. the Bluetooth client sees my iPhone but after it accepts the passcode, the wheel continues to spin until it says that my device doesn't have the necessary abilities to connect. Any suggestions to fix this problem?
