iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

So update after this week end...Like I said in my previous post, my battery seemed to be a bit better....Maybe after a few good charges, it was starting to really get better....but no matter what, i had an appointement at the genius bar, and I decided to go anyways. So I went, and he gave me a brand new phone. So far the charge that was inside already was pretty good, I got it saturday around 4 and I only charged it yesterday night around 2h30 A.M. The guy at the store told me to DO NOT charge the battery 8-12 hours like some people says....A good 4 hours is good enough, he said...So i charged it for 4 hours, it was 100% this morning at 6h30.... But after 27 minutes usage and 1hour 7 minutes standby.....Its already 94%....Is that good? Its actually better than the previous phone at the beginning....And i'm thinking after a few charges, maybe it will get better, like the previous one seemed to do...What do you think?

I dunno, the problem seems to be twofold - at least in my case. First I couldn't understand the incredible drain just in standby, from 100% to 78% in a matter of 7 hours (which is nothing compared to other stories I've read). I got this fixed with deleting my Exchange setup of Gmail, rebooting and readding it. My standby figures are now acceptable although not perfect, still at just under 1%/h, but much better than before. I also have the automatic setting of time zones off and raise to speak option in Siri set to off (haven't made any scientific experiments as to wether this does anything for me or not, but I don't need these options anyway at the moment). Everything else on as normal.

Then I noticed the next problem. The drainage when using the phone has not been fixed by this. Now, I do realise the phone should drain battery when in use, but 20% for a 20 minute call and 2% for a minute in either Facebook or Reeder I find pretty abnormal. I also played Infinity Blade for half an hour yesterday losing 22%, maybe that's normal, I'm not sure, but the other figures bother me. So far nothing in this thread (I've probably read about 80% of this thread) has come close to addressing this. The system monitor app shows nothing unusual, at about 95-98% idle when I've checked.

So in short, what I gather is that the standby figures can be helped by the various tips in this thread, but the actual usage drainage has no solution yet (for me at least). If this happens to be normal drainage, I have to admit I'd be pretty disappointed.

I upgraded from a 4G to the S and the battery is last only half as long. I think mine is related to the 3G radio. It appears to be trying to recieve data, but is unable to download. My email or other data does not come down and the phone starts to run hot. This happen multiply times a day. To the point I finally have to recharge the phone.

Been using the 4S for 2 weeks now - I have noticed that I am losing 1% of power every 5 mins with:

- brightness turned to minimum (i am reading in bed)

- No network connectivity (WiFi off, BT off, 3G off)

- All data streams set to Fetch, not PUSH

- All apps capable of Push, such as Facebook, set push to OFF

No apps running. checked with System Activity Monitor (Free from App Store) - checked all services running - there is nothing "rogue" running in terms of services, no idle processes, CPU is mostly idle or less than 5%, and yet i am draining, draining.

Wondering if it could be the power consumption of the new antenna? I am the radio is always on unless you go to airplane mode. In any case, your guess is as good as anyone's.

Coming from an iPhone 4 - the iPhone 4S is a nightmare. To make matters worse I have been without power since Satureday morning so charging every 4 hours isn't an easy task.

I unplugged this morning at 5:00am. By 7:30am I was at 85%. All I did was reply to 3 emails and 3 texts. Nothing else. With the iPhone 4 I would be at 99%...maybe 98%.

Apple - please help. I am begging...

iPhone 4S, 16GB Black, Verizon.

my battery life has not been great, but i use the phone quite a lot during the day so i just chalked it up to heavy use (although no other iphone i have ever owned has ever had such poor battery life).

but last night, i went to sleep with a fully charged phone (battery charge was at 100% as it had been on the charger just before going to sleep). i woke up this morning and my phone was very hot and at 42% after just sitting all night long not being used at all.

something is very not right. just wanted to add my experience to the list here.

Categorically, for me, the answer has been to turn off Automatic sending of Diagnostics and Usage data.

Settings > General > About > Diagnostics &Usage > Don't Send

This fixed the battery drain on both an iPhone 4 upgraded to iOS 5 synced to a Mobile Me account, and an iPhone 4S with an iCloud account. Both phones have many awdd entries in the diagnostics and usage data.

After much research I have done just 3 things to my phone and my battery now lasts 100% longer than it did:

1) Did a full restore from iTunes

2) Disabled Auto Time Zone (Settings -> Location Services -> System Services -> Time Zone) and any others I didn't require.

3) Turned off calendar from the Notification Center (Settings -> Notifications -> Calendar).

Exchange Push, iCloud, Siri, and all the other things that make the 4S great are still enabled and my battery is lasting as long as I would expect for a change.

Best of luck to you all.

I tried everything suggested up to the point of resettng from new. Ive had improvements on the iphone 4s. Can posters here post their battery data like below so we can compare each orhers iphone 4s batts and everyone will know how others are doing.

9am - 12midnight (black screen fully dead batt) - 15 hours total = Average of 7%/hour.

This is from a normal day, txting, calls, surfing, using apps, etc.

Well 85% compared to 98% might seem bad, but keep in mind, the 4S has a much faster power hungry chip. Plus iOS5 and the cloud probably contribute to the drainage. Supposedly the battery is only slightly more powerful too...so maybe not enough to compensate for the new power demands tho.

I am sure Apple is working on a software fix to improve the integration somewhat. But i would expect some difference between the 4 and the 4S due to the above factors. As long as it makes it thru a day of use, i wouldnt get too upset. This isnt a basic flip phone.....it's the smartest phone around. Basically a laptop in your pocket.

Think about that. If you use a laptop or ipad extensively throughout the day surfing the web, answering emails, playing games, skyping....or any other activities....chances are you will be charging it up over night for the next days use. And those devices have MUCH bigger more powerful batteries than the little iphone.

Not trying to dismiss valid complaints....just saying, you gotta keep this in perspective. From what i hear android smart phones suffer massive battery drain as well. Part of the trade off i think to have a laptop in your pocket.

Still....i am sure Apple is addressing the issue and will improve it as best they can.

I've only had the 4S since Thursday (4 days) but in that time I've already become familiar with the abysmal battery life. Examples:

1 - I need to charge my phone every day at work or else I won't make it through the day.

2 - Even at weekends, where I'm mainly on wifi, I get to the end of the day on less than 20% battery. My 4 managed this with 60-70% charge

3 - This morning, I unplugged my phone from the mac-mini I use to charge it overnight and checked it 10 mins later. My charge showed 93% with the Time since last charge / standby both showing 10 mins.

Since I got my phone I've tried a restore and I've tried a complete discharge / recharge but this has had little / no effect. I give it till the end of the week and, provided my 4 hasn't sold by then, I'm seriously considering taking it back.
