iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Ill keep saying it, my phone was great- 2% standby loss the first 2 nights.(At normal factory settings with cloud enabled!). The only strange thing was the phone was at 1% for about 20 minutes of heavy use. Dropped some settings to increase usage drain and things went downhill from there. constant 30% drain overnight. not to mention massive usage drain.

after dropping ALL settings- (location services, cloud, wifi, itunes ping, push notifications, etc.etc.etc) things have not gotten any better. I dont care what idea you can come up with- (diagnoistics, compass calibration, auto time set, stock ticker,iAds ) NOTHING is making it normal again.

I just did a full restore to new phone Ill get back to you guys but at this point I believe there is something wrong in the settings thats bugged.

My system status system log keeps showing "Unable to cancel system wake for 2011-10-21 09:20:12 -0400. IOPMCancelScheduledPowerEvent() returned 0xe00002c" Seems like something is not letting the phone sleep.

So im pretty sure its a software issue

Also there have been instances with my phone becoming warm while its in standby

Same battery issue with my 4S on the Verizon system. No help from Verizon but when I went in to the Apple Store it was fixed. They ran a diagnostic with their equipment (the clerks phone) and it showed that I had only used the phone for 1.5 mins. all day. He said that that was impossible and knew that it had been used more. He said that it told him that the sofware was corrupt and after backing it up, reformated the entire phone. Everything including the phones software was removed and reloaded. All total it took about 15 mins. So far, 2 days later, amazing improvement in battery life No longer want to return it. The phone would drop to nothing without much usage in 3 hours, now it lasts all day. This was done at the UTC store in San Diergo, CA. PS, you should turn off the wifi when you do not need it and are moving around town.

@DocAaron - Its not a hardware problem have you not been reading these pages some people are on their 2nd phone and still reporting problems.

Have you not considered the process you went through with your new phone and perhaps that in 'your' case may have solved the problem. Did you restore onto the new phone from an Icloud backup or set it up as a new phone ?.

This in my book is a software issue however to what degree it can be improved I dont know as it does seem as though the new chip is taking its toll on the battery,

Ive done two DFU restores, one with an Icloud restore and one as a new phone both resulting in the same drain for me. Im getting around 5:30 usage on 15 hours standby which isnt massively bad like some people have experienced but I do think it should be better. With the screen on its loosing about 1% every 3/4 minutes im finding.

Ive configured it as per pages and pages of posts previous. To be honest im not happy with it id rather go back to my 3GS and wait for the 5.
