iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Things I have tried with pretty good success:

Close apps running in background, esp those that use mobile data and locations

Turn off mobile data and location services when not required

Change diagnostics and usage data to don't send

Minimize the number of apps in the notifications list

Turn off raise to speak for siri

Blue tooth off

Stop using iCloud (My iMac is on OS leopard and iCloud not compatible anyway, so think there may be an issue there)

Date and Time, set automatically turn to off

Turn phone off after plugging in to recharge

It may not be necessary to do all of these, but your can try them to see which helps.

ok i 'thought' my battery life was fine and all compared to everyone else until i ran a test last night..

Usually i turn off mobile data when it isn't required (overnight) which is probably why my battery life has appeared to have been acceptable.

On previous occations, with mobile data turned off overnight, on a 100% charge, i would barely see any change 7 hours later in the morning, as the battery would report back as 98/99%.

Last night however, i thought i'd leave mobile data on and see how much drainage that would cause battery life. I only slept 6 hours last night and from a 100% charge at 12am, at 6am my battery was down to 79%, this was completely on standby only.

I don't think that would quite meet the 200 hours standby time, at that rate i would be looking at 30 hours stanby time at best. I'd therefore like to know whether everyone else who is suffering from poor battery life has tried turning off mobile data? It could be that the bug is with mobile data itself. The annoying thing is that the 4S doesn't allow you to turn off 3G alone which I would normally do when i was out and about to conserve battery life.

Apple needs to fix this ASAP, otherwise please extend the returns policy as i'd probably be better off with the new Nokia.

You may want to start a thread now about the antenna. I suspect however based on our survey that the battery issue has been improved if you follow the steps in other post.

Most of our APP's have performed within acceptable parameters.

You can get a log with IPhone Configure Utitlity and post it here. We tend to use XCode.

Good Luck, thanks.

Been in touch with apple they said they need to see my phone as its a new one on them so I'm glad to take it to them at the weekend and hope they can fix it, the man did say for the battery fix that you need to do a restore on iTunes set as new phone but don't put your apps back on it may be an app over load try to put them on one at a time and see how that works

Since you are not sure of the battery life as well you may need to follow what needs to be done for your device. It has now worked based on our analysis. In fact another thread has reported users having major success, these users have also disable email notification since this thread now seems to be lingering.

Check the steps again if you are still having problems,

Do a Hard Reset or Settings>General>Reset

Let battery drain and than charge it.

I wanted to share my experience with everyone here because I too had all of the same battery issues mentioned by people in this dicussion. My battery used to drain at around 10-15% per hour without any use. I followed all of the suggestions posted by others before me, but nothing seemed to help. Then I turned off the location services completely. That was all it took. I immediately saw a dramatic improvement in my battery life. My phone now drains at <= 1% per hour. Go try it out for yourself...

Thats not why i bought the 4s. Apple needs to fix this battery, i have tried everything that people are blogging about, but my phone drains 2-3 % pr hour. Ok, thats not that bad, but its a long way to 200 hours standbaytime. Why is it using so much battery when i dont use it???

Apple! Almost 400 000 views on this tread.

Appel! We got a problem, and it is not small one.

If appel dont fix this, then i will try out htc and samsung.

(sorry for my poor english, i am from norway)

After updated to iOS 5.01 via air update, my 4s battery drops alarmingly between 5-10% an hour on standby, like everybody else here on the forum.

Thank you so much David, you cracked it "reset all settings" is the holy grail!

Anyone who have problem with their battery should definitely try this! It takes 5mins, no need to do a hard restore as suggested by others!

(I advise you also turn off all the 'system services' under location services)

I did a full charge last night, my phone been on standby from 9am this morning, after 4hrs 30 mins, my battery is still on 100%!

i have had the same problem as everyone else. i have tried all the suggestions that everyone has shared.. still sucked. well now i have made sure to keep all programs closed on the multitasking and seems to work. i charged my 4s until i went to bed at 9p last night and got up for work at 4:30a and battery life had only drained to 99%. before making sure all multitasking apps were closed (double tap home screen, hold icon til red/white - shows) my battery would be at around 80% when i got up. so i think this may be part of the issue. someone give it a try and let me and everyone else know if this was helpful...
