iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

What you fail to understand is ALL THE iPHONE 4's ARE NOT FAULTY. This has been said over and over and a LOT of folks have started with issues and performed some basic tasks and their problem solved. Some with the 5.0.1 patch. Others with removing rogue software that can't seem to play well with iOS new feature set. I really do sympothise with the folks here who are really having issues and so far nothing really helped a lot. Not so much with the bone heads here who refuse to attempt anything cause "I should not have to do anything, its Apples fault blah blah". Apple is working on a software update to address. What else can they do. Ok they can give you a new iPhone and iOS5 (which does have some issues) and guess what you still have a problem. So all they can do is fix the issue in iOS, tell everyone to update when its available, and recommend that users turn off some of the features they dont really need to further improve their battery.

So taking up for Apple? Well they certainly dont need us few here to have their back, they do pretty darn well on their own (see the mob in China begging for iPhone?) But the few of us here trying to offer help are simply level headed and understand that nothing is perfect, Apple included, and when there are issues only thing companies can do is work toward making it right. I believe Apple is one of the best around to do that based on their track record. BTW I use a Microsoft PC not MAC. Always been a PC guy. But Apple support is leaps over MS.

Still cant not believe how you people are taking up for Apple when its evident they have many issues with this phone. If I buy a car and turn it on i can run every darn thing on it I want with out running the battery down, If I turn on an I phone I just paid good money for I should be able to use it as it was designed to be use.....Must be a bunch of Apple trolls on line singing the praises of faulty phones just turn off all the functions that you paid for and we advertise ands it will all be fine is pure BS.

Here on Apple forums are plenty of posts which suggest that majority of iPhone 4s are faulty. Here are people who are already at their 5th iPhone 4s and still have hardware issues with it like for example the static noise issue. I guess that majority of people do not bother to report their battery life issues with iPhone 4s because most likely for them is fine if iPhone 4s lasts 16 hours between charges. Also is fhe same with the static noise isssue. One has to have pretty good hearing and be in a silent room to hear the static noise of an iPhone 4s. From what I have seen around 80% of iPhone 4s are affected by rhe static noise issue which is a hardware issue.

I agree with you. I cannot believe either how many people are here on this forum who are supporting Apple and telling to those who complain here about the issues of their iPhone 4s that iPHone 4s is the best phone ever!!!!

People come here on this forum to complain and to get tips. People do not come on this forum to be told that the problems which they have with the iPhone 4s are imaginary ones!

Already the iPhone 4s has been launched ~ 3 months ago and there still is no official fix/solution available to the general public for fixing the battery life and the static noise issue of iPhone 4s!!! I am amazed that here people who spin this delay as a good thing and also find embarassing excuses for Apple (e.g. Apple is large company)!

OK Will I will give you that one. Wow we agree! Yes the majority of iPhone 4s users here are having issues, however your 80% number is probably low. I would say maybe closer to 95% is more accurate of the users on these forums, not of the total 4s population. (you seem to quote that throughout these forums) Of course most users don't visit support forums unless they are 1: having an issue they are looking for an answer to or 2: have a mind set of trying to help folks that do have issues. (that's me). So I would definitely say that most any support forums for any product the majority there are having issues with said product.

Perhaps the 80% who have static are hardware related. I couldn't say as I never have heard it or no one I know has experienced it. However it could be software related too since data and audio at the same time is a feature of the GSM network not CDMA network. So could be data interfering with voice causing static or interference in the audio circuit. Again I know you don't believe it,and thats fine, but I have read that iOS 5.1 B3 has helped with that as well. Battery, sim, dropped calls/static all seem to have been addressed and corrected as far as early reports are saying. Only time will verify that. Maybe why its taking a while due to several issues being addressed as well as some new functionality.

I am sorry but I agree with yout that your battery life on your iPhone 4s does not look good at all! iPhone 4 would do for example sooooo much better!

If you forget one evening to charge your iPhone 4s you will not be able to use next day until the evening!!!

Also you should consider that in time the battery will wear down and this means that provably in one or two years your battery of iPhone 4s will not last until the evening if the same day!!!

I mean by static noise issue the noise one hears coming from phone itself (not the speakers necessarily). In some cases the static noise appears also during the calls. I have the feeling that we are talking about different issues even that we call it static noise issue. Shortly, I can hear a static noise coming from the iPhone 4s when using 3g cellular data for data transfer. Actually you can hear the noise better if you put you ear on the back of the iPhone 4s where is the apple logo. Probably I have quite good hearing and I can hear exactly the same noise (but a little bit more faint) on the front of the iPhone 4s (in a very silent room).

enx23,

the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S do not have the same battery specification. this info was provided by Apple before the phone was released and is currently stated on the product pages of the product. in my experience with hundreds of users now, the 4 typically gives users 1.5 days (heavy use) to 3 days (light use) wheras the 4S typically gives users 1 day (heavy use) to 2 days (light use) for normal operating phones. again, this mostly is the result of reduced standby time in the spec by 33% (i.e. from 300 hrs to 200 hrs). there was also a reduction of 10% in wifi data usage (i.e. from 10 hrs to 9 hrs).

Also you should consider that in time the battery will wear down and this means that provably in one or two years your battery of iPhone 4s will not last until the evening if the same day!!!

specifications for almost all products are given for new. anything beyond that... warranties, etc will have all sort of exceptions, expected wear, etc. there too many variables in usage patterns to determine where that battery will be in 2 years for each individual. the main thing we want to determine is if the phone is performing to specifications new or within a reasonable amount of time. if it is not, is it software issue or a real hardware issue. in my experience, less than 30% of buyers are having battery issues that are not with in spec. of that 30% with the issue, less than 10% of those have a "real" hardware/battery problem according to spec. the majority of the battery issues are caused by old backups, corrupt settings, corrupt mail or roque apps that can be addressed through various methods. note, that i have seen these issues with every iPhone release except for the original.

One small detail. Most cars GENERATE electricity with an alternator, and the power of their engine. Those that do not have SERIOUSLY reduced range. Try another approach.

NO ONE is saying no phones have issues. If you manufacture 10,000,000 of ANYTHING technically complex, some small percentage will have problems. If you are working the scale of millions, even .1% is 10,000 people with trouble. Even so 9,990,000 don't have the problem. Unfortunately that 10,000 can make a lot of noise.

I fully agree with you! The battery life of iPhone 4s is sooooooo much shorter than one of iPhone 4. I guess that the S in iPhone 4S stands for Short.

I find it such an irony that the battery life of iPhone 4s is so much better when there is no SIM card inserted!!!

Yes, it is shorter, on SOME phones, not on others. I get about the same battery life on my 4S as I did on the 4 I had before.

As for taking out the SIM card, that means that the radios and associated circuitry isn't in use, so, yes, it should use less power.

If a battery isn't exposed to damaging heat, or electrical damage, a Li-Ion battery should last at least 3 years, with some minor degradation (20%) in the first couple of years. I am pretty sure that I can get mine to last until I can get an upgrade, to an iPhone 6 or 5S.

The reports I have read also mention that the phone gets rather warm (one person said he couldn't hold it), when the static was heard, and also when recharging. That sounds rather like some internal arcing, possibly from the battery, or the antenna when transmitting. Hardware, for sure.
