iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

There seems to be a lot of bickering in the last few pages! Hope it calms down.

I keep checking back here to see if there's anything other than the same old reset this/turn that off. It would appear there is no permanent fix - 600 pages!

The only action I've seen Apple do is to remove some Apple-unfriendly posts from this and other threads.

Guys,

It's time to give up, return the iPhone 4S and get your money back. The folks going through 5, 6, 7 handsets must surely work out soon that there's either a software bug Apple can't/won't fix or the published battery life specs are just fanciful.

You're the consumer, you pay them, take the rose-tinted Apple spectacles off and just get rid of the device.

I took my iPhone out of the charge last night at 7:11PM and right now, its 9:25AM and I have 85% remaining with no usage at all.

I slept at 12:10AM and I had 91%, woke up at 8:22AM with 85%. A drop of 6% in about 8 hours is great compared to what I had before, 6 hours standby = 10%-12% drainage.

I am very satisfied with my current results and I will not add any contacts, apps, or music until the battery drains to 0% and I record my final results.

I bought a iP4S over the weekend and so far it feels about the same as my iP4. I restored from back up and turned off the stuff I never use to extend battery life.

I turned off Bluetooth, find my iphone, diagnostics & usage, and setting time zone. Brightness set a 50%. I took a screen cap and I hit almost 7 hours of usage with 12:28 of standby time with 8% battery left. Using this over the last few days and it doesn't seem worse than my iP4. My iP4 wouldn't last a full day either.

NOTE: Why did I upgrade? To give my old phone to my fiancee. So far so good.

On average one gets around 3-4 days of usage on iPhone 4. Obviously your experience is on the lower end.

Exactly ! Now you are getting it! Why a lot of us here say its software issue

You have not read careful my post. I suggest that one should read again carefully. Here is the part you missed!

Let me say it again! The static noise issue is a hardware issue! Getting 7 iPhone 4s in a row all having the same static noise issue it means that the vast majority of iPhone 4s are affected by it!!! Many people do not report it because Apple tell them that is the carrier's fault which is not true (at least this is what I was told by an Apple person).

The static noise issue is due to a faulty component in the iPhone 4S. The faulty component is related to Cellular data transfer over 3G and also it draws more current that is supposed too which shortens the battery life of the iPhone 4s.

Plenty? There was 5.0.1 and ...... ummm........ well there was ..... oh wait thats all that was released so far. Hmmm. And you have 5.1 Beta 1 -3 right? Also you do realize Beta software is "test" software not release right?

Here are some facts regarding iOS 5:

1) iOS 5.0 beta => didn't fix the battery issue and the static noise issue

2) iOS 5.0 => didn't fix the battery issue and the static noise issue

3) iOS 5.0.1 beta => didn't fix the battery issue and the static noise issue

4) iOS 5.0.1 build 1 => didn't fix the battery issue and the static noise issue

5) iOS 5.0.1 build 2 => didn't fix the battery issue and the static noise issue

6) iOS 5.1 beta 1 => didn't fix the battery issue and the static noise issue

7) iOS 5.1 beta 2 => didn't fix the battery issue and the static noise issue

8) iOS 5.1 beta 3 => didn't fix the battery issue and the static noise issue

One may see here that clearly the software updates cannot fix the battery life issues and/or the static noise issues of iPhone 4s!!!

How many more iOS updates and betas Apple need to release in order for one to understand this? 15? 50? 500? Obviously 8 iOS updates and betas are not enough for one to get that!

Yes, 3-4 days of usage! Even in the specifications from Apple the battery life of iPhone 4 is longer than that of iPhone 4s.

Doing what?

Like for example using the phone, that is making phone calls, texting, browsing, chekcing/sending emails, etc.

Obviously you don't know what you're talking about.

I am not talking here. I am writing here!

Total BS. Go read reviews where phones are used continuously until the battery dies. Wifi, talk time, and media use are all tested. Few smartphones will last a full day on one charge with heavy use. My experiences are exactly inline with what reviewers have stated. I stated that my phone gets heavy use everyday. I can also make one charge last days by reducing my usage.

As for your ridiculous iOS "analysis" above, you have no idea how software is developed and released. iOS 5.0.x and iOS 5.1 are on different branches. Depending on the release schedules, fixes in one branch may not be included in another branch. Judging a release branch, with a beta branch, is foolish.

Stop pretending that the vast majority of iP4S users are having problems with static and battery life. Miillions of phones have been sold and there isn't a million user forum thread or mass petition asking for a recall.

I do not care about how iOS is realeased. All I know is that I bought a super expensive iPhone 4S which has batter life issue, static noise issue, and bad voice call quality issue. Do you mean that after paying a lot of money on an iPhone 4S I should understand/learn how iOS is released so I can forgive Apple better?

All I can see is that Apple is releasing iOS updates and betas which do not fix the battery life issue and/or the static noise issue! And buy the way, Gmail is in beta, Siri is in beta!

Is this some kind of lame excuse for Apple for not fixing the battery life issue and the static noise issue with software? Should I give a break now to Apple just because iOS 5.0.X and iOS 5.1 are different branches?

Should I forgive Apple for selling me a bad iPhone 4s because of iOS 5.0.x and iOS 5.1 are on different branches? No, I will not!

iPhone 4S has been launched 3 months ago and there still are no fixes for its issues!

Stop pretending that the vast majority of iP4S users are having problems with static and battery life.

I am not pretending! I am just writing here that the facts and reports point towards that direction! Even Wozniak has noticed the poor battery life in his iPhone 4s!!! There are plenty of reports of stores which have boxes full with returned iPhone 4S! There are plenty of reports with people being at their 7th iPhone 4s!!! Yes, seven!

The truth is that it looks like the vast majority of iPhone 4s have the battery life issue and the static noise issue! If this is against one's believes then please to not bother to reply to me! Religion equals believes and it is not point to discuss religion here!

For once, we agree on something. I agree that the static problem is a hardware issue. Electronic components don't normally make any noise. The noise, and heat, and rapid discharge of the battery all suggest internal arcing, which certainly is NOT normal. On ther other hand, your statement that the vast majority of iPhone 4Ss are affected by it is sheer balderdash. If you got 7 bad ones, that suggests a bad batch of batteries, or something on the assembly line was wrong and that batch got shipped to your store.

I noticed an improvement in my battery life, please see the screenshot above. Is this life acceptable from iPhone? What I did was, that I comletelly charged and discharged (until it switched off) twice the iPhone (by useing the full brightness and swithing on the camera). Then I completely deleted all datas and settings (as it was new). This way I got rid of the "phantom" proces, when the Usage and Snadby times were the same. Then I switched off all the setting mentioned before and added datas (apps) one by one, not from iTunes. I got these results. I do not know if one can expect longer life, but I think I would be happy if it will work this way to the future.
