iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Just reporting back in that I did resort to the "restore as new phone" solution, and that solved my battery drain issue. Now my phone's battery is back to the performance levels that it had when I first got it. Odd thing is, along the way, I had actually deleted ALL of the third party apps on my iPhone, trying to determine which one might be hung up and utilizing the battery so heavily. So since the phone was so stripped down, I was mistakenly thinking that a "restore as new" would be overkill. But no...it was just what the doctor ordered. Thanks to all of you who have suggested it along the way.

I was just complaining to my buddy that i thought my battery may be a bad one (after only like 1.5 weeks of having it lol) because i charged it monday night into tuesday morning, and had a game going on and some texts, then woke up, unplugged it, drove to work and checked my battery on the way in (20 mins after i unplugged it), and it had dropped to 99% (had stayed 100% for a couple hours then drops 1% every 15-20 mins depending on usage when i first got it) but then i charged it when it reached about 50-60% yesterday, unplugged it when it hit 100% send 2-3 messages, and haven't used it all night, i woke up and at work approx 16+ hours later after unplugging the charger and the battery is now at 85%. This is my first apple device period, so i'm new to the way things are with the OS and battery life and such, i had an Optimus S before. Am i just talking outta my arse or do i havea reason to complain? If i use the phone like normal, i'll charge it maybe 2x a day (normal being about 20+ msg, check email 5x a day, play a game for about 15-20 minutes, and check facebook about 5x a day)

If you are not on actually on a call or using data, put it into airplane mode.

That would mean that you wouldn't be able to receive calls/ Kind of defeats the object of a phone I would have thought! 😉

Some people use a phone for THEIR convenience, not the convenience of others. And the iPhone is MUCH more than just a phone. Shutting off the radios (airplane mode) leaves most other features available.

Tried what you mentioned earlier.

"Something is running in the background.

To quit all apps and remove them from the Recently used tray...

Double tap Home.

Tap and hold any icon in the Recently used apps tray at bottom.

Tap the red minus sign on the corner of all apps.

You should generally do this a few times a week."

Yes, after I turnd off the phone and turn again, nothing change, the battery life remains awful. But there is something that I noticed. The battery stays on 100% for relatively long but after it starts drain very fast, so from 100% to 99% it is okay, but after from 99% to 98%->97%...etc it drains so much, I lose 10 percent in half an hout use.

They all seem to do that - stay at 100% for a long time - it seems to be the way Li-Ion batteries work. It's especially noticeable if you leave the phone on charge for a while after it's reached 100%

Get the System Activity Monitor app. It's £0.69 ($0.99 I guess) but it's money well spent. My phone suddenly started draining a lot faster and I couldn't figure it out. This app - which is very similar to the Activity Monitor in OS X - found the culprit. In my case, it was Skype.

Skype has a setting called Go Offline which, by default, is set to Never which means that it is always running in the background listening for incoming calls and means that it starts automatically so rebooting the phone makes no difference. I set it to 30 mins and battery life went back to what it was 🙂

The only time I find that the battery on my iphone is used at a greater rate is when I am out of town. The phone seems to be always searching for a tower or wi-fi and eats the battery. I always shut down and reboot when in another city or area. That helps a lot. I have had my phone go almost dead overnight if I don't reboot to find the nearest network. I don't know if that is BS or real but seems to work for me. Someone tell me the truth. Thanks

I think this is the normal function. As you move around, the phone must keep updating its cell connection, and searching for a new one. This takes battery power. You can minimize this by turning wi-fi off until you need it so it doesn't have to keep trying to find a wi-fi connection too.

I downloaded iOS 6 yesterday. My wife has not. Her phone was at 100% last night. Her wi-fi (we have it in the house) was turned off. This morning her phone battery was at 97%. My phone was at 95% last night, with wi-fi turned on and this morning it is at 90%. All apps were turned off on both phones. So I don't see any big battery savings with iOS 6. Going to do some more tests, turning on her wi-fi and charging both to 100% tonight before bedtime. Will post again tomorrow. Anyone else trying to find the magic wand at battery life?

We both have 4S phones.
