Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I can't stand you proud Apple customers moaning about bad battery life.

This forum is about complaining and moaning about the miserable/bad battery life of iPhone 4s. If one does not like this forum and its complains then one should read something else and not be here!

Did you ever try the reset network settings as a first option? That may very well help immediately.

However, as suggested by dkalchev and sbailey4, I will update to 9A406 over the weekend. Setup the phone as New, import contacts via Gmail.

I also plan on getting a brand new micro sim for the phone, since the sim I am currently using is a Cut normal sim.

I am hoping and praying that this process will fix the battery and heat issue!

After resetting my I-phone allready three times, with all the headaches of loosing precious time, data en re activating numerous accounts etc., every time the problem returned after a few days and my battery life is a joke! 20% after 8 -10 hrs after a full reacharge! Just recently Honda had to pay a $7000,= fine for overestimating fuel efficiency of their cars. Comments suggested this could cost them billions if other dissatisfied customers would demand the same compensation. Perhaps a class action suit gettting compensation from Apple for selling a product that does not perform as advertised in terms of battery life would get a more appropriate response from Apple instaed of pretending there is nothing wrong! I would not mind getting a $ 500 refund for very poor performance!

I agree with you! The battery life of iPhone 4s is miserable even compared to iPhone 4. Apple should do something about it officially! It should have done it yesteryear!

iPhone 4's battery life is better than 4s' because 4s has extra accurate GPS (as it also supports the Russian GPS competitor, Glonass) PLUS it has more memory and more powerful and therefore power hungry processor.

As to Nokia having better battery life, their products are not really smartphones, you can't compare them against the iPhone seriously. They run outdated OS Symbian and are challenge to use in real life scenario.

Buy yourself the extra battery. My friend uses an assortments of chargers instead: at home, at the office, in the car etc. And connects the phone to the cord every time he could.

There is no other way to make a slim smartphone other than to agree on the weak battery. Want a powerful battery? Add an extra weight by putting an external battery on. That's it.

Sure, if you're experiencing an abnormally short battery life, you may need to exchange your particular item for a replacement.

Ive been on wifi most of the time, so I don't know if that is my main problem though.

    Thanks for the tip anyway

I do hope there will be significant changes soon. The way it seems for me now it takes half a day to be completely drained. (I mentioned I turned off all the battery-consuming features as found on the web)

I understand your pain! This is really bad! Apple should do much more than this!

    Folks,

Apple is not Santa Claus to go out of its way in order to appease customers. 5 hours OF USAGE is great for a modern phone. It could last a full day with no usage and near the base station, with 3g, bluetooth, GPS and push off.

My iPod touch lasts about 4 hours with WiFi on.

Thes do not impact so much the batery life as you try to imply. If one removes the SIM card from iPhone 4s and uses the iPhone 4s without the SIM card then iPhone 4s lasts 6-7 days! How is this possible?

Suddenly when one uses iPhone 4s as a phone it lasts ~18% of what is specified in its specification! The issue is the faulty Qualcomm chipset MDM6610 which deals with the 3G networks (and CDMA/GSM/UTMS networks). Also the same chip has arcing going on which produces the static noise.

By the way, have you checked your iPhone 4s for the static noise issue? I bet that you are affected by it and most likely is that you are not aware of it! Over 80% of iPhone 4s are affected by the static noise issue

TEST FOR STATIC NOISE ISSUE which affects >80% of iPhone 4s:

    1) go in a quiet room,

    2) turn off WIFI,

    3) turn on the Cellular Data

    4) load in Safari a large web-page (or do a speed test on your 3G network with SPEEDTEST app <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/speedtest.net-mobile-speed/id300704847?mt=8>),

    5) while you are loading the web-page or doing the Speedtest put your ear to the back of your iPhone 4s where is the Apple logo and listen carefully.

    6) if you hear some noise then you are affected by the static noise issue

Obviously your iPhone 4s is defective because it has such a super short battery life. I suggest that you exchange your iPhone 4s for a new one or get a refund!

I have my previous phone, iPhone 4, stolen and I am in the process of ordering a 4s. I will test the phone for static noise issue before parting with my moneys. I really don't know about the chip. I have not heard anything about battery life of 4ses being abnormally short. I believe its similar to 4's with the relevant functions off to preserve battery. Though I prefer to actually USE the phone, and use it a lot while away from the outlet, so for me an extra battery is A MUST.

By the way, all my friends with Androids complain about the same problem, battery life. Short battery life is the plague of all modern smartphones, Apple's no exception.

    To All,

Reset all network settings and make a hard reset and see if that helps. It did to me.

    Regards.
