Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Pretty much everything it could. I once asked a girl on the next table in the cafe to show off her phone, she had Android and she was like - Oh, my contacts are stored on Google's servers. That was all she was using.

Me for example uses more than just contacts sync. Apple is the technology you can actually use.

Take BlackBerry users. They mostly only use email.

And competitors are trying to match Apple's fuctionality on paper or to impress with useless perks no one would really use. Reality is that they are more counter-intuative and harder to use.

    (IMO).

    @sbailey

FINALLY, the iphone gave me usage stats today for the first time. I did upgrade to 9A406 firmware yesterday so hopefully that fixed the reason why I was not getting usage stats. Considering I made 122 minutes worth of calls today, I think these stats are not too bad and 9A406 has shown me a definite improvement on battery life (so far). I still have 27% battery left which is ample for mail, whatsapp, a call or 3 and some browsing tonight still.

    >>FINALLY, the iphone gave me usage stats

I would call that REASONABLE (if not 'good') battery life.

I admit that isn't a massive amount of usage, but I'm perfectly happy with that.

Its not a one-off either, my phone is currently at 1 day 10 hours standby, 3hours 21 mins usage with 49% remaining

Follow me, get an iPhone external cover/battery and you will have a professional iPhone. The 'girlies' don't use the iPhone features to the fullest, that's why the slim profile with a short battery lifetime is OK for them IMO.

Girlies text and talk all day and are always on youtube and FB - indeed they will need an external cover/battery to enjoy this glorious feature set throughout the day aka browsing, calling, social networking apps.

Wozniak is simply an intelligent person - he can give credit where it's due and see on both sides of the fence. It's called having an open mind and not making a religion out of this. Why attack him? He made a point about the integration of maps and navigation etc. I understand it's much easier to go after they guy than his ideas. You respect the guy because he's an Apple co-founder but he's a fool because he won't kneel to Apple and he'll dare express the shortcomings of the device - I couldn't care less about where he comes from - I respect him for what he says. I value ideas over status. Your comments are truly elevating.

No. They just call with the screen off.

Woz is an 'intelligent person'. C'mon. He is a smart guy and a pleasant person, that's for sure, but he frequently talks nonsense. What's the problem with navigation on iPhone? I used it every day before my phone was stolen and found no faults with Maps. If you need some car-specific navigation, there is choice of paid apps for that. We are not limited to Google.

Wozniak IMO is an engineer guy. He is not a design or marketing type of person. He likes gadgets. But his opinion is really strange sometimes. Though I enjoy reading his comments. :-)

    Nevermind.

Stop agitating against Apple, you SAMSUNG drone! :-)

I have exactly the same problems, and tried all the solutions I could find.

The only one I havent tried yet is to update to 9A406. My phone is currently running 9A405.

I doubt this will fix the problem.. So I'm considering waiting for ios5.1.

Going to an apple store might help, not sure yet. Since I read various comments regarding that.

Hope youll get some more battery life soon

You confuse usability with feature set. Apple may have more of the first but certainly not more of the later. Instead of your void PR attempts, elevate your thinking on the concept of choosing a smartphone by reading an article made by people who really know what they're talking about - you might end up having something valuable to say. Btw I own neither Android nor iOS based products...

Look. I am just a customer. As to your offending comments, I believe you probably is underpaid and frustrated, I suggest you read good publications on career development and find a good, well-paying job. No offence.

There seems to be no battery problem with iPhones other than some downloaded applications that needs to be deleted or some settings that need to be altered.

P.S. If you don't have no smartphone, go buy it. Why complain if you don't even own the device, that is amazing.

I don't see where my comments are really offensive. I'm not an expert on those matters either but you came here and made a sales pitch about the iPhone without any substance really - I challenged your statements in a very direct way, and now you back off. Chances are your take on battery issues is just as valuable as your take on the iPhone. But true, bad apps are a problem. But Apple prides itself on quality control in the App Store.

As for your comments on my job, well... you could not offend me even if you wanted to.

    Good luck!

p.s. As far as buying a smartphone, well, I'm not into bling - I don't buy things which I don't need. Considering the Nokia C1-01 for casual use and good call quality/reception. At 50USD I wonder if I can afford it though...

Dude!!!...Apple does not have an overseas coverage for iphone. They have if for all the other products but iphone....It is there in the warranty terms....So you better send it back to someone in USA and get it exchanged or even better, just ask for a refund and buy an apple here....And I feel India's units are very good...I thought I had battery problems with 4s until i used galaxy and an issueless galaxy phone's battery is as good as an iphone with a battery issue.....

It was only 80% of iPhones were bad a few weeks ago now apparently its "over 80%" of 37,000,000 are faulty. enx23 was a Qualcomm engineer and is currently Apple engineer and and has inside knowledge of its design in case you were unaware.

Not quite sure yet why he has not returned his device for refund or exchange yet since both a refund will get him free of iPhone woes completely and apparently an exchange has new chip that will resolve the static, battery whatever other issues.

    > How do you know that? Are you aware of specific hardware design flaw in iPhone 4S to suggest any of this?

Yes, the faulty component is the Qualcomm chipset MDM6610 which produces the arcing and also is responsible for the 3G network and GSM/UMTS/CDMA networks.

You suggest Apple has started replacing this faulty part with another in recently shipped iPhone 4S?

It is possible that a batch of faulty chips was shipped, and those are now out of the pipeline.  This kind of thing is not rare in the integrated circuit world.  If it is so, then Apple will NEVER admit it.  However, the idea that 80% of iPhone 4S sold have a faulty chip is not too realistic, given that the battery life issue seems to make an impression only here on Apple's forums.  I still have not found a single person who complains about the 4S having poor battery life outside this forum, and a few others on the same subject.  IF 80% of all the phones shipped had this kind of a problem, then it would make 'antennagate' look like a small party at a girl's school.
