Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I have my previous phone, iPhone 4, stolen and I am in the process of ordering a 4s.

Do you mean that you post things like "4-5 battery life battery for  iPhone 4s is fine" without owning/having an iPhone 4s?????????

I have not heard anything about battery life of 4ses being abnormally short.

Yes, you have because you posted here on this forum multiple times! This forum has over one million view and over ten thousands replies so obiously the battery life issue of iPhone 4s is real and it looks like the vast majority of iphone 4s are affected by it!

Though I prefer to actually USE the phone, and use it a lot while away from the outlet, so for me an extra battery is A MUST.

    Good for you!

By all my friends with Androids complain about the same. Short battery life is the plague of all modern smartphones, Apple's no exception.

Many of Android phones have short battery life but they are closer to their specifications and also they are cheaper than iPhone 4s. With iPhone 4s one gets a miserable battery life which is far away from specification and also the phone is super expensive => it is a very bad deal!

I suggest that you postpone your iPhone 4s buying until the issues of iPhone 4s are officially fixed and acknowledged!

You call the iPhone 4S 'super expensive'.  Here in the US, the price for the 16GB version with a 2 year subscription deal is $199, whch is the same as most other smartphones with the same features.

Hardly 'super expensive'.  If it was markedly more expensive where you are, then complain to your government about protective tarrifs, or whatever laws govern pricing of foreign products.

Reset all network settings and make a hard reset and see if that helps. It did to me.

    Regards.

    This fix does not work!

By the way, have you checked your iPhone 4s for the static noise issue? I bet that you are affected by it and most likely is that you are not aware of it! Over 80% of iPhone 4s are affected by the static noise issue

TEST FOR STATIC NOISE ISSUE which affects >80% of iPhone 4s:

    1) go in a quiet room,

    2) turn off WIFI,

    3) turn on the Cellular Data

    4) load in Safari a large web-page (or do a speed test on your 3G network with SPEEDTEST app <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/speedtest.net-mobile-speed/id300704847?mt=8>),

    5) while you are loading the web-page or doing the Speedtest put your ear to the back of your iPhone 4s where is the Apple logo and listen carefully.

    6) if you hear some noise then you are affected by the static noise issue

Don't you get tired of saying the same thing over and over?  Do you REALLY believe 80% of iPhone 4S have the static noise issue?  IF so, you really don't impress me as being very realistic, especially when you have been asked, repeatedly, not to make such statements when you can't substantiate them.

There seems to be a logic: 1 iPhone not bought for worry of 'static noise' or 'battery life' issue = 1 SAMSUNG

    Hence the trolling. :-)

well, what is it about hearing a noise while speedtesting?

Normally the electronic components of phones should make no noise. If one makes then it means that it is faulty and also probably draws more energy than it should!

what does this affects the phone?

    It affects the battery life!

Wow!  Something we agree on.  If you phone makes static noises, and, especially if that is accompanied with heat, then it has a hardware problem.  Heat is a critical issue since overloaded Li-Ion batteries have been known to explode.

PLease have a look, its just a 60 seconds google search

Childhish love often overshadows the reality that anecdotal posts weigh little in comparison to in depth reviews. As noted earlier this week, it's all about what you want to use the device for. Also you should remember that a lot of Android devices have serviceable batteries - a feature we're still awaiting for Apple to deliver... But as I said, it's really about what you want to use the device for... If one wanted the device which yields the longest calling time, should he choose the iPhone? It's debatable.

    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/174/17487943-1.png

What about using the device as a wifi hotspot or for pure wifi browsing? I'm not posting the charts for each, but you can take a look here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4971/apple-iphone-4s-review-att-verizon/15 - tl; dr it's debatable again. 3G browsing is where the 4S shines. Of course, with all these phones you might configure them in a way that with neither you'll reach any of those numbers. But the numbers stand for intense tasking from the charger disconnect point in time. It's not about childish love/hate. It's about facts. You should get these straight instead of relying on 60 secs of Google to make a cheap point. Because there are reasons why one could chose the 4S over an Android phone. It takes more than your little links though, especially as you can read some of them have been updated and the poster offered a more balanced vision of things, like the mobileenquirer one... reading your own links could help!

Things will improve when I disable 3G data, which I need rarely (and most users too).

Ok. The battery life issue of iPhone 4s is due to using 3G network and Cellular data transfer. If one uses 2G network then there is no battery life issue anymore.

One cannot disable "3G data". There is no such thing in settings of iPhone 4s! I guess that you mean "Cellular Data". If one keeps the Cellular Data off because he or she rarely needs it, looks like one is using the iPhone 4s as an expensive music player (like for example iPod) and a dumb phone!!! What is the point of having a smart phone like iPhone 4s if one keeps off all the time Cellular data? There is no reason!

Also I agree with you that most of the iPhone 4s users keep the Cellular Data transfer off because maybe they do not have a Data plan or there is no such capability on their network. This explains why here many people think that the majority of iPhone 4s have no batter life issue becasue the batter life issue does not appear when the Cellular Data transfer is off or one is not connected to a 3G network.

3G in my area. Cellular data ON, SIRI ON, Location service ON for those things that reasonably need to know where I am, and 72 apps (last count), and I usually end a day with about 70% battery left.

So, now what?  I guess I am just lucky to be one of those 20% you say don't have the static noise problem.

I think you have just seized on one aspect of a rather complex, and multicause problem to adopt as a talking point.

    I have an idea.

Why don't all the people who aren't happy sell their iPhone and buy another make or model?

    it might solve your problem!

What features do the iPhone have that the other smart phones doesn't??

SIRI, which may be useless to you, but to English speakers, it is great.  This morning, my wife said 'Set a timer for 20 minutes'.  I clicked Siri on, and said 'set a timer for 20 minutes'.  It just did it, and I went back to my reading.

    That's NICE.

Other features are pretty much what other smartphones do, the iPhone just does them better, smoother, and, usually, faster.

Wozniak is the ultimate techie geek.  Being a techie geek, I understand where he is coming from.  He likes a phone he can tweak, twiddle, and hack for hours.  It's what he does.  However, I'm getting old, and after 2 years with a Windows Phone, I just want something I don't have to tweak, twiddle, and hack.  After using my wife's iPhone 3GS over 1 year, I elected to go with the 4S over the Galaxy S II.  The phones are more or less comparable, except for Siri, but there are many benefits to having the same type phone as my wife, and I doubt the S II will ever see ICS, let alone any other developments to the OS.

A sensible argument - that's what he said, for someone who wants to put the time into it. ICS penetration, sensible again. Siri, indeed. Although there are valid app alternatives for the Android environment (http://www.techdrivein.com/2011/11/5-best-free-siri-alternatives-for.html or http://www.businessinsider.com/siri-alternatives-for-android-2011-11?op=1 ) while they wait for Majel to be released. But Apple has done a good deal of integration with Siri and the tech behind it is great, granted.
