Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    SUCCESS!!

    (well partly at least)

I called applecare again and the person I talked to this time stayed on the phone with me to make sure that I did everything right.  When I restored my phone the first time I restored from a back up of my old phone.  This time I restored as a new phone.  I don't have any of my apps or contacts on my phone but at least the battery seems to be entering sleep mode now.

My phone stayed at 100% for 45 mins! and it was NOT in use that whole time, the phone actually went into sleep mode when I wasn't using it!

I am a bit worried because my batt has gone down to 96% in the last 15 mins but I am DLing an app on wifi and also turned on my bluetooth keyboard so hopefully that explains the 4% loss in 15 mins.

True, but my goal was not to have it at 100% when I woke up. It was simply to see how long the battery lasts.

Losing 35% by playing only 30 minutes of wifi audio in 8 hours seems very poor.

Anywaym they said it was in good shape. Bluetooth is on (I have a BT handsfree speaker) and they suggested turning it off as it uses twice the battery. I hadn't though of trying with the BT off. IMO, still not very good.

"You can closer the mail app (and any other apps that are running) from double tap home button, then hold icon until the red close button comes up then tap each app you want to close."

Mail app isnt running, thats why i'm asking for suggestions regardin this: ioptimize says mail run at a specific time but I haven't use it and "push" is turned off.

attaax's post is in reponse to one that claims iOS 5.1 fixes the issue.

attaax - 5.1 isn't available publicly yet. You can get it if you join up and pay for the Apple Developer program.

There's nothing in the documentation for 5.1 that acknowledges there is a battery issue to fix, let alone any claim that it is fixed.

Guys, My iPhone 4S needed charging twice a day.

The 4S does not have an option to turn the 3G off so it drains pretty quick.

I was very discouraged untill I did this.

I completely drained the phone battery until the phone stopped working.

Then I charged it to 100%.

I know the basic advice was to let it run down to 20% or less but I never got good results until I ran it completely to 0% before charging.

I have mine set to go into Standby mode after 2 minutes.

Now it lasts nearly 3 days !!!

    I could not be happier.

This is not just a phone guys. It does much more, so do not expect it to last like a dumb phone.

I hope this helps you. I wish I had read about this here earlier !!!

I emailed Apple support as I feel my 4S has a weak battery also. Seems to drop quick,50% from 7am till noon perhaps.

They are sending a box so I can return it so I am wondering, does that mean they are replacing the phone, or will they just diagnose it and perhas send it back. I also want to now approx how lng this will take as I will be without a phone for the duration.

    thx

I noticed a battery drainage problem after I enabled Siri while I was fully charging from charge cycle (until phone closes) as it is recommended once per month. I was very annoyed by this and decided to do erase all content and settings and restore from iTunes as I had 2,300,000 high score in Temple Run and achieved high scores and levels in one day in Where's My Water (I recommend you download it). I then noticed I had phantom usage and battery drainage. I decided to erase all content and settings but this time, without a restore. I still had battery drainage and I erased all content and settings as much as 4 times before the battery drainage stopped.

I was very relieved when it stopped because it is really a pain in the a$$. I didn't download Temple Run this time but I have Where's My Water and I had to re-do all levels from the beginning.

I charged it to 97% today and it stayed 97% for 1 hour 30 minutes (probably a bit more) with usage 26 minutes (only music at the gym). Stress relieved. Approx. 6 hours 10 minutes standby (during sleep) with drop of 6%. (11:50PM-6:00AM). The night before, I had probably 20% drainage in 8 hours. F**ked up sh*t.

Don't think "he disabled Siri just because he wanted to tackle the battery drainage problem." Honestly, I don't make use of her a lot so I don't really need her. I'm able to type and look for music and contacts by myself and I don't need crappy assistance.

My iPhone 4S lasts less than 8 hours on standby with everything off And I mean everything. Wifi, Bluetooth, I have no emails, no cellular data, no iCloud, no Siri, not even calls or texts. No nothing, but still it doesn't even get through a single work day and I'm not even doing anything with it, it's just sitting there. I have been trying all the tips I have seen online and none of them are working. Updated all I could update. Even got the unit replaced twice, so I am on my third unit now. Must have completely reset it two dozen times already, and it still it eats up more than 10% per hour!

I've had it replaced twice already I'd like to think it might be software related since how can I be so unlucky to have landed three different phones with the same hardware issue. I don't want to believe that all the phones they are sending here to Manila are defective. I have some friends with the same iPhones too and they don't seem to be complaining... I must be super jinxed.

If you've tried everything - including a restore to new and making sure your sim card is right - and you're on your third unit, it's time to get a full refund, buy an iPhone 4 or something else and move on. You shouldn't have to go through all that simply to enjoy the 4S. Good luck!
