Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

just go to Settings --> Location Services --> System Services --> turn off Setting Time Zone. Done. Let me know if it works (battery drain decrease 40-50%). If the answer is yes, spread it. Next software update for ios5 maybe on March.

This does not fix the battery life issue of iPhone 4s which is a hardware issue. This has been mentioned on this forum at least 50 times!

Ahhhhh..... Same problem here, whenever I charge my iphone, the battery stay longs on 100% (about more than 1 hour of standby) but after 99%, its drains dramatically......... I don't know what's the problem ......

This looks like a hardware issue. I suggest to get a new replacement or a refund!

Browsing through the forum I found a post on resetting the network settings.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

That seems to have done the trick. Whew.

This "trick" has been mentioned at least hundreds of times and was found not to work. At the end of the day the battery life issue will appear again!

Have you checked you iPhone 4s for the static noise issue? I guess that most likely you are affected by it and this is why the battery drains faster than usually.

Everything else you can sync via iTunes. Or perhaps, if you keep it in iCloud. But better to not restore settings as you may have something wrong in there.

This procedure or parts of it has helped a lot of people here.

This procedure has not help anyone! This has been mentioned at least hundreds of time here and it does not work. For few hours it looks that is fine but after that the battery life issue returns!

Otherwise, just wait for iOS 5.1 -- it reportedly fixes a lot of background apps issues.

The last iOS 5.1 beta 3 does not fix the battery life issue!!! How come that the same a apps running on iOS 5.0.1 on iPad are running fine and do not pose any problems?

The iOS 5.0 beta, iOS 5.0, iOS 5.0.1 beta, iOS 5.0.1 build 1, iOS 5.0.1 build 2, iOS 5.1 beta 1, iOS 5.1 beta 2, iOS 5.1 beta 3 did not fix the battery life issue of iPhone 4s.

Why one still believes that iOS 5.1 beta 4 or iOS 5.1 final will  fix the batter life issue which is a hardware issue?

Have you checked you iPhone 4s for the static noise issue? I am prety sure that you are affected by it!

There is no point in exchanging the device however, as the problem is with settings and apps, not the device.

For sure the problem with battery life issue of iPhone 4s is not related to settings and apps. How come that the same settings and apps are running just fine on iPads/iPods and do not bring the battery life issue?

The battery life issue of iPhone 4s is a hardware issue whih cannot be fixed thru software updates!!!!

If one believes or suspects that he or she has the battery life issue with his or her iPhone 4s then one should immediatelly get a new replacement or a refund!

Just consider a situation: you get Androids free whereas I pay a thousand bucks for an iPhone. Am I dumb? Besides, Androids can be had here for about half of that price (except the latest and greatest which I consider funny as there must be people who paid the same money for an Android and could be owning an iPhone - but the salesperson knows better it seems, I witnessed the android guy sales piches once, they could be really convincing sometimes) :-)

In most of Europe, USA, and Canada the Android phones are cheaper than iPhones. Also it is a known fact that the battery life of Android phones is not better than the one of iPhone 4s which has a miserable battery life. The thing is that the Android manufacturers do not lie the customers/buyers about the battery life of their phones as Apple is doing with its iPhone 4s.

Pay some expert to troubleshoot your iPhone and use it happily ever after, stop complaining. Or join the camp of cheapos and fools by getting a refund and buying an Android.

    Just stop complaining.

Are you joking? This is a forum about the battery life of iPhone 4s and it is for people to complain about the battery life issue. If one does not like to read complains about his or her iPhone 4s then one should not be on a forum about issues of iPhone to begin with!!

This forum is for complaining about the battery life of iPhone 4s which is miserable and also it is a hardware issue!!!

My iPhone 4S lasts less than 8 hours on standby with everything off And I mean everything. Wifi, Bluetooth, I have no emails, no cellular data, no iCloud, no Siri, not even calls or texts. No nothing, but still it doesn't even get through a single work day and I'm not even doing anything with it, it's just sitting there. I have been trying all the tips I have seen online and none of them are working. Updated all I could update. Even got the unit replaced twice, so I am on my third unit now. Must have completely reset it two dozen times already, and it still it eats up more than 10% per hour!

It looks like a hardware issue! I suggest to get a new replacement or a refund!

Mine's kind of same....I got my phone replaced which did good on standby....It stayed on 100 for 6 hrs and dropped 1 percent every 2 hrs from 99 but the usage drain was too heavy on the phone....So got it replaced and my new phone is giving the same....it stays on 100 few hours and drops 1 percent every 2 hrs....The phone is working fine....I just have that no audio problem on call and on call, the battery drops little too quickly......Actually, on usage the phone is according to the specs....but quite close....

I mean it makes sense to solve the problem rather than merely complaining you're having trouble with the battery.

    enx23:

My battery does not drain anymore, after doing reset of the phone and not loading the pile of apps I have collected since the iPod Touch gen1 from backup. My phone runs well over 2 days with 3G, wifi, iCloud etc ON and with VoIP connected at all time. Please stop spreading FUD!

You seem to have absolutely no clue what you talk about, especially the 'static noise' you keep throwing in here.

Please do us a favor and go educate yourself what 'static noise' is. Where it comes from and what it has to do with iPhone 4S, or it's battery.

    Hello,

I just wanted to share my experience with you all and tell how I found a solution. Well, there's nothing new in this post, just two things that are mentioned in previous posts.

The batt of my 4S drained in less than 8 hours. I tried to restore and leave the phone with no apps. That increased battery life a little bit, but the problem continued.

    What I've done is:

    - Installed the latest iOS 5.1 Beta (3) on the phone

    - Activated all possible find-my-iphone, find-my-friends and battery-sucking features

    - Added my Gmail and Exchange account

The battery life increased dramatically. I made no hard reset, no restoring from backup and no out-of-the-standard procedures. The Beta3 really increases battery life.

After some weeks the battery life started to get worse again. The only thing that could be sucking the battery overnight had to be email.

So, I configured my exchange email as a manual-fetching account, with no push features in it.

Now, the battery is at 100% when I go to sleep and still is at 100% when I wake up. Just the hassle of having to enter the Mail app to know if I have any new emails, but that is a much smaller problem than watching the battery die in less than 12 hours.

    Good luck!

There are people who leave email at 'push' and want a decent battery life! :-)

    Sure, this is America :-)
