Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Has anyone tried going to the apple store or calling apple? Any feedback from them. I am suffering from the same issues as well. I switched from android because I couldn't stand having to charge my phone 3 times a day. But I won't waste my upgrade if the battery issue isn't fixed. I m a huge apple fan like all if u, but this is the worst experience I have has with apple products. And not a good way to be introduced to the phone

I called AT&T & APPLE, they say they have not heard about this issue & wants us to wait until an official word is out. We all have 30 days to return for a full refund. I suggest as many of us to call APPLE & explain our issues. Only then this issue will get logged and gets escalated to R&D. I hope APPLE is looking at their support forums & releases an official statement so we are all relieved.

I charged to a 100% before my 30min dinner break. I checked to confirm it read 100% battery. Then had dinner, game back after 30min , the battery was at 90%. So there is obviously an issue as many  of us see. hope more users come forward with this issue ASAP.

Here to voice my concerns as well. I've tried all the things that i shouldn't have to try, but to no avail. Both my wife's and mine are experiencing intense heat accompanied with rapid battery loss. The only thing so far that seems to have slowed down the drain is shutting off my two calendars (exchange and email). I seemed to get a normal battery then. Still testing to confirm.

I have been an owner of the iPhone since its inception, and I'm very disappointed with what's going on here. I refuse to have an apple store genius tell me to turn off some push notifications so my battery life increases. That is absurd. Hope to hear from apple. I will report back with findings after I run around with my calendars off for a while.

Listen guys, I'll wait few more days, if nothing happens I'll just return it. This is ridiculous.

My last phone was iphone 3G so you can imagine how happy I was to get myself a new iPhone after three years.

And now this. I'll just go online and buy unlocked iphone 4. And to be honest, this Siri is cool and has a big potential but it's more cool than useful at the moment. It will be good enough next year, just in time for iphone 5. Until then iphone 4 will do the work.

Sorry, I am little of the topic, but I just had to share my thoughts with someone. And just think about it, the official tech specs say that standby has dropped from 300 hours to 200. That's huge, that's a 1/3 of time. So, what's causing this, what has changed since iphone 4, what's unique for iphone 4S ?   ..... I thinks it's all about A5 or Siri. One of those two things is messing with our battery.

Let's just hope will hear from Apple soon.

Hey, I have lost track of all the posts, reading some inside gmail when I get copied.  I made all my changes and used battery magic to do a battery recondition overnight.  I unplugged my phone about 7am yesterday (Monday) morning and have been using it on and off since then and now it is 6:30 PM Tuesday and I am at 40%.  Lower than I used to get from my iPhone 4, but considering the 4s dropped from 300 hours to 200 hours of standby, I guess that is expected.

Here is everything I did except for the email part at the end, as I did not think I needed it after the other changes.  Many you have already read, so I sorry if I am restating the obvious.

Also I am basing it on the iPhone 4S as my iPhone 4 updated w/o issue or battery drain.

    The big two are...

         * Settings > General > Siri = Turn off Raise to Speak

              * Settings > About > Diagnostics & Usage = Turn Off

        Others that help...

              * Settings > General > Restrictions > Enable Restrictions > Ping = OFF

              * Settings > General > Spotlight Search = Turn off what you don't need

              * Settings > Notifications = Turn off what you don't need

              * Settings > Location Services = Turn off what you don't need or what does not need location

              * Settings > Location Services = Turn off "Setting Time Zone" unless you are traveling

              * Settings > iCloud = Turn off Photostream if not needed, as you can drag / drop photos later.

              * Settings > Mail & Calendars = Turn off in mail Calendars & Notes that you are not using & Turn off Fetch inside each email as some are turned on by default during install or restore & Turn off Fetch New Data if you don't need it.  I check email when I am ready and I don't need it popping in on my phone every 1/2 hour.

    Minor helps

              * Adjust brightness if you can or want, the lower the better (turn off auto-brightness)

              * Set your lock screen to lock quicker, so the phone idles more

              * Turn Vibrate off if you don't need it to both ring and vibrate.  This does not effect turning the switch to silent / vibrate.

              * Music EQ if you use one = Off

    If still not helping

Delete eMail Accounts, Reset Network Settings, Re-add eMail Accounts

              1. Delete your email accounts by going to “Settings” > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Account Name > Delete Account

              2. Now Reset Network Settings in “Settings > Reset > Reset Network Settings

              3. Reboot the iOS device

              4. Re-add email accounts back in “Settings” > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account

cl24 : Thanks for all the suggestions. Not sure if you read the previous threads, people here are NOT looking for work arounds to increase battery life. We need fixes that will allow us to use most of the common features (if not all) available on the iPhone 5 which we all have paid for as advertised.

Yes, but regardless we need to function for now, and I am functioning for now.  Replacing the phone won't fix it, at least I don't think it does.

I have 90% of the features working I would like working, the other 10% does not effect my use at all, so overall, work around or not, the phone is working.

The only things I owuld like to turn back on are "Raise To Speak" and "Time Zones" but I can live w/o raise to speak for now, and I am not traveling for the next couple months.

I am sure Apple will release 5.01 soon and address the battery issue.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that some people with the 4S are seeing great battery life.  This is why we can't blame it on Siri and the A5 chip.  Otherwise ALL of the new 4S's would be affected.  It's really hard to nail down, if it was a bug in iOS5, the same would be true.  We must be the lucky ones with faulty batteries.  How else can you explain it?

Im on the phone RIGHT NOW with Apple and I told the agent that the battery life is not doing well on my phone. I also told him that there are a lot of us on the forums with the same issues.

EVERYONE: PLEASE CALL APPLE SUPPORT AND TELL THEM ABOUT THESE BATTERY ISSUES.

It is true, the more people call, the more they will escalate the issue to release and update. My phone dies after 8 hours of standby and moderate use. Thats not acceptable from what im seeing here

foreshay: I have been following these threads all day since morning, havent seen anyone state that their 5 had better battery performance than 4. In fact everytime I use SIRI I see a drastic drop in battery. Also people who have upgraded their iPhone 4 to iOS5 have seen a decline in their battery life. I am one among them. I gave my iPhone4 to my wife & upgarde to iOS5. I clearly seen the decline in battery performance. Before that when I was using it for a year, it was just awesome, charing once in 2 days.
