Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Because some of us had the 3rd or fourth replacement and the battery problem remains! And before you say, they are dumb or they can't configure their phones, most of them tried all the tricks mentioned on these pages without any luck!

And the reason, why they don't want their money back (instead of having a new (or mostly refurbished) iphone) is because they like iOS, and had no problem with previous iDevices, and simply they don't want to change to android or win7 or else....

I have a question, is this rant about the phone with the posted results below? If so what exactly are you expecting and further more what did you do to get those results? I am sure everyone here would love to know.

Snif, I am not defending anyone especially Apple. They don't need my help (just look at their financial's). What I am attempting to do is provide suggestions and information on how folks can get better results from their devices. That's all. There have been a lot of people who have benefited from the suggestions.

So if you don't want to make any adjustments to settings etc that's ok, you certainly don't have to and can leave your device just as is with every feature you don't use or need  turned on and run it flat out with every app notifying you about this and that and checking your location draining your battery even further. Certainly that's your choice. I am sorry if you are offended by my attempts to help folks. BTW My phone had less than desired battery as well requiring another charge before the end of the day but now it works just fine and I typically go to bed with 55% to 70% remaining now.

FACT! The 4S performace is nothing special. Apple products have always been a cut above the rest. The 4S is not. This is not a support forum, Apple is not supporting anyone on this forum, the support is being got from guesswork and speculation given by some users. This is a complaints forum. If you use the 4S out of the box, it will NEVER go beyond 20hrs of standby with light or no usage!

Some users e.g sbailey should STOP trying to defend Apple and 4S! The phone/software is below par! I bought the 4S believing I would get best of class service but I have not been impressed even after exchanging it in store.

Ios5.1 will be a turning point, if it's a hardware problem, it will persist after 5.1 and our fate will be have been sealed.:(

Plus you don't fool me one second. I've seen the movie "No Way Out" and no one would mistake Kevin Costner for a Russian guy.

So it was a movie and it wasn't real life?

and aren't spies (especially undercover/sleepers) supposed to blend in and not be noticable or identifiable?

Rare I get to talk to a L9...

    -Yes/no

    -Yes

I recognize you talent for stating the obvious. There must have been a point to your comment, but you'll have to be somewhat more straigthforward as I'm L1 you know...

I simply charged my phone (3GS iOS 5.0.1) to 100% and plug off from the charger I took the screenashot at 5% battery level. As I said: everything was OFF (BT, GPS WIFI, iCloud, mobile data) Only the 3G toggle was on, so I used it as a simple phone (not a smart one). With the same settings my 4S lasts about 37 hours (standby).  I'm expecting about 4 days (96 hours) with my 4S, keeping in mind, that the 3Gs has 300 hours and the 4S has 200 hours of standby by specs (forget about, that my 3Gs is two years old). If your question was that the picture (of the 3Gs screenshot) is fake or not, i must say: it's REAL!

Hummm.  Without SIM card you get 6 days, with it battery drains quickly.  Does someone need to hit you upside the head to get your attention.  GET A NEW SIM!  Even if they make you pay for it, they are about $10 around here.

Hey, take it easy No need for that......I'm already on my 3rd Micro-SIM (all of them bought new). That is why I'm not buying another one!

I guess maybe your point was you wanted me to concede he's not Kevin Costner in "No way out" - granted. You see, a long time ago I had a good pal here, posing as someone from South East Asia with the worst type of broken English one could find, similar to the way Asian guys used to talk in Westerns from the John Wayne era. Then all of a sudden he had proper English. Then I had this other pal who'd make spelling mistakes in every word when he'd argue with me about the joy of owning every single piece of Apple hardware that exist and that I should get a better job to afford them, then I saw his other posts somewhere else in the forum and they were flawless. Then there was another friend of capitalization in this very thread who was adamant about people drinking a nice beverage and stopping from complaining and I had to sedate him on many occasions for him to tone down a bit. There's lots of social engineering going on here. I may be wrong, and I'm the first to admit that I surely don't know it all. I pride myself in being blunt, contrarian, and mostly annoying to some. But there are 2 things I would never do here:

1- Use another ID to make a point

2- Impede support by providing misleading information to a user

You see, I can respect Apple and there are many things to like about the iPhone. On the other hand, lots can be improved and the marketing was quite misleading - in terms of battery life, the device is simply subpar compared to the 4... it may be up there with the other smartphones in the industry, but for users coming from 4, it is a step back in that respect. I can't stand the ignorant condescending lifestyle fairy tales peddlers - I initially came here to break them, and I will do so every time I get a chance. People can love Apple and the device but distortion has its limits. In many threads I've read multilevel users acknowledging different issues with the 4S from the software to the OS to hardware issues and all. How widespread the issues are is a matter for debate, to people like sbailey4 and enx23, and this has evolved over time, from 5.0 to 5.0.1 to now. But people coming here for support should get support and not PR. No one is neutral here. But I stand by the idea of support and not blaming the consumer for being very demanding - those people wait in line for hours at launch etc. They deserve total respect.

Update #2:  Have not used the phone since the last update at 9:30 this morning.  It is now 2:30 p.m. and the battery is down to 68% (from pulling off of a full charge at 7:30 this morning.  I've lost 30% of my battery from 7 hours of standby time.  That's not right.  Just wanted to post my stats.

I would never wait in line for any product - except maybe food or water if I were starved.

In any case if I was mistaken about you I must apologize. One thing for sure is that you certainly don't need my permission to be here, as I won't heed anyone's permission to comment.

    Good luck!

No I thought the pic was from the 4s since this thread is about 4s battery. So it was 3g with nothing turned on. Thanks for the clairification. Folks would start trying to get 6 hr use and 8 days std by with a 4s when they see that

I dont think you are stupid. I say if you are that disappointed with the 4s you should take it back or sell it and stick with the 3g. Now not doing that may be considered as stupid by some.   BTW you do realize Apple is still selling the iPhone 4 and now its a cheaper price so you can still have your iOS that you like and a phone that is not "flawed".

You are right. This is my plan. I decided to wait for the final 5.1, install it, and if the problem remains, I will change to iPhone 4. This is a rational decision, and i will have to make it, but apple is famous for its emotional buyers, and a part of me is like that. I bought my macbook because using the iphone 3G (my first apple product) was a very good experience (after the first hour, when I wanted to destroy it ). The OSX experience made me stay with apple, and besides it was rational, it was an emotional decision too. Apple knows how to sell its products, that is why it's hard to accept, that I (might) have to sell my phone. But I'll be strong
