Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

One does not own right now an iPhone 4s and also one does not know what is wrong with iPhone 4s but claims that iPhone 4s is best phone ever! This is very interesting!

I am insisting iPhones are the best there is because it really is.

This is a belief (belief like in religion)!

I tested Android and laugh every time I spot a top-of the line Androids in the wild, especially Samsung. It amuses me to watch faces with which those victims of sales techniques use their phones :-)

It looks to me like here one has a lot of fun watching people being screwed just because those people do not think the same!!! This is really really sad....

Hi enx23! I am curious as to why you are so passionate about insisting that people get a replacement/refund because you believe no software update could possibly solve the issue. I'm not saying you are wrong nor right, I am just curious

Thank you for the question DuckGirl722!

I bought a new iPhone 4s last year with 740 euros! Immediately I have noticed that I have the battery life issue, static noise issue, and bad quality voice calls. I was waiting for long enough hoping all the time that Apple will release iOS 5.0.1 to fix at least the battery life issue of iPhone 4s. At that time everybody was raving that for sure iOS 5.0.1 will fix the battery life issue and there were even some Apple hints about this this. The same is happening now when everyone is sure that iOS 5.1 will fix the battery life problem. By the time I saw that the iOS 5.0.1 was released I could not a refund for my iPhone 4s (I was out of the 10 days period). Now I am stuck with a horrible smartphone which actually I use as a dumb phone just to be able to get thru the day until the evening. Also I see that this is not my fault and it is Apple fault. On the other hand who wants to buy a iPhone 4s with these issues? Also I do not see why I should loose money on the iPhone 4s which I bought because it is not my fault and it is Apple's fault! I have talked to Apple support and they blame the carrier for my iPhone 4s problems which I find really astonishing. Of course that I contacted the carrier and my carrier told me specifically that the network is fine and the problem is with my iPhone 4s. Also in my office I have another mobile phone (different manufacturer) on the same 3G network as my iPhone 4s and if I put on the same desk both one inch apart the iPhone 4s shows 3 bars coverage (out of five) and the other phone shows 5 bar coverage.

Shortly, I am stuck with a super expensive iPhone 4s for which I cannot get a refund and I do not see why I should loose money on it because of Apple selling me such a miserable phone. So I am letting people here to know that they should not do like me, which is to wait for Apple to release some hypothetical software update and while waiting they are in the position not to be ableto get a refund!

Therefore, I suggest everyone that if one suspects or even things that has a battery life issue and/or static noise issue with his or her iPhone 4s to ask for a refund or get a replacement and not wait too long!

Could someone please summarize the static noise issue for me succinctly? I don't have time to read 11,000 replies, particularly with the tangents this thread has been taking, but I'd like to know what to look for.

    Yes.

In order to test if one is affected by the static noise on iPhone 4s one should follow this steps:

    1) go in a quiet room/place

    2) turn off the WIFI

    3) turn on the Cellular Data

    4) make sure that you are on 3G network (there should a 3G symbol in the left upper corner of the iPhone 4s)

    5) load in Safari a very heavy/large/big web-page which takes a long time to load

    6) while the Safari is the loading the web-page put the back of your  iPhone 4s to your ear (put your ear on the Apple logo) ==> if you hear some noise which sounds like static noise coming from the iphone 4s then you are affected by the static noise

The static noise affects ~80% of iPhone 4s (if one is on 3G network + UMTS network + data transfer).

Some time the static noise can be heard during the phone calls if there is a data transfer is going on while one is having a call.

If you know such a party, kindly let me know. Though I don't think such propositions would interest me finacially.

    No.

As to battery issue, i had a battery issue with iPhone 4, but I used all and every feature there is. Battery life improved when I turned some stuff off, but what is the pleasure not to use the phone.

As to battery issue, i had a battery issue with iPhone 4,

The battery life of iPhone 4s is shorter than that of iPhone 4. Nobody denies this! If you had a battery issue with iPhone 4 are you sure that you really want a iPhone 4s which will have a shorter battery life than you had before?

Battery life improved when I turned some stuff off, .

You know that the "phone function" is a feature of iPhone 4s! iPhone 4s has evolved from iPods which did not have this feature. So one could argue that also one could turn off the phone feature just to save some battery lilfe.

ClayG: due to the fact that people post this 'static noise' crap again and again, I suggest you disregard this warning. The phone should have some slight noise due to the fact there's electronics inside, but don't be too paranoid about that, my SonyEricsson also seems to have some 'static noise issue', but I consider some slight noise to be normal.

You know, first and foremost, I need a good and functional phone, which is an iPhone. Second, the battery life becomes a non-issue if I buy a third-party external battery case, which I am planning to do.

I least I suggest that Apple should modify the specification of its iPhone 4s in such a way that it reflects the reality!

It is all written here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/battery.html

Obviously, the battery life of iPhone 4s is not as it is in specification. In my case it last ~18% of what is in specifications. In order to get close to ~50% of specification I ahve to turn off almost all settings and reduce my iPhone 4s to a super expensive iPOD!!!

Did you return your iPhone 4S for refund or exchange?

I have carefully read Apple's spec and test methodology and in fact the battery life of the iPhone 4S is impressive.

I have a feeling that here is a confusion between 3G network and Cellular Data. Please, note that 3G network is used also for voice data and not only for data transfer!  Please, rephrase it!

Of course, I forgot that you have higher degree than me! Nevertheless, imagine I have some clue what 3G is. Might be even better than yours. Of course, your higher than mine education might be in the field of 3G technology.. who knows.

I asked you nicely to rephrase it because I did not understand your statement. Instead of answering you are again playing the game of whose d*ck is bigger! Be my guest!

So what did you want me to rephrase?

It might be helpful if you state your education level and area of study by the way, so that I might adapt teminology.

'3G network' is just marketing. The respective technologies have their respective names. Mind you, I happen to live in Europe and for me 3G means things like UMTS, HSPA (HSDPA, HSUPA) etc.

    For me, 2G means GPRS/EDGE.

With regards to iPhone 4S, the missing switch to disable 3G is supposed to disable 3G operation completely -- thus switching your phone to 2G for voice and data.

The existing "Cellular Data" switch enables or disabled using the GSM/CDMA carrier for data, irrespective of the radio connection being 2G or 3G.

    Does this answer your question?

As a coinscidence, this is the very first advice Apple gives to those interested in better battry life "Update to the latest software" -- here, read: http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

Obviously Apple also claimed that it fixed the battery life issue with iOS 5.0.1 and that was not true. Are you aware that Apple got slapped with 1.2 million euros fine in Italy for bad customer practices? Also as the size of is forum proves the iPhone 4s has a battery life issue which has not been addressed yet even that iPhone 4s was launched last year. How many years one still needs that the battery life issue of iPhone 4s will not be fixed by Apple?

Obviously, Restoring to 5.0.1 has fixed the battery issue for me and many others. How does this proce your "defective Qualcomm chip" theory?

I do not live in Italy, but yes, they could have been slapped. Which is ok, because most US companies, including Apple provide very sloppy service in Europe. Apple is improving here with time, which is only good. I believe they will provide even better options, now that the makrt growth in the US is almost dead.

Do you expect me to answer every rethoric?

    Please stop spreading FUD.

Are you joking? If there is a post to which one does not agree it means that it is FUD. Right?

The battery life of iPhone 4s is miserable compared to iPhone 4. The battery life issue of iPhone 4s is a hardware issue! If one does not like this then he or she should not read this post or be on this forum!

You have yet to prove, at least to me, that this is hardware issue. Go on. Be as specific and you can. Oh, you can't? Your 'knowledge' is based on what you read from a source, that read or heard it from somewhere else and that 'supposed' there might be some problems with that chip?

I read all the 'knowledge' articles you threw at me.. guess what -- no facts in there!

Aboud FUD, please educate yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty_and_doubt

    It's your choice, of course.

You have absolutely no clue what you talk about!

I suggest here one to judge my posts and what I write here! It is idiotic to judge the person who wrote the post instead the post itself!

I don't judge you, only your posts. Your choice of 'facts' and the annoying act of you spreading FUD about the iPhone 4S.

Let me provide you with a little more perspective -- there are a lot more people here, reading what is posted. These people are all smart enough to judge for themselves whom they will trust. As long as you don't provide any facts, why would they trust your FUD?

There is a forum about it on Apple site with over 56 pages and over 50 000 views

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3393647?start=825&tstart=0

The phone should have some slight noise due to the fact there's electronics inside,

It is not normal for electronics to have audible noise!!!!!

It was normal for eletronics for 1960 and 1970s to have noise but this is not normal for electronics nowdays. The static noise issue nowdays in eletronics is just a sign faulty electronic components!!!

Note: this static noise comes from the iPhone 4s itself and not thru the speakers or headphones.

    TRUE

If there is true audible noise, I suggest to exchange the device. The noise that is so quiet that it's barely audible could be present in electronics, I belive, am I wrong?

It seems we have the Android assault these days. Those Google guys clearly can't do any proper business it seems, other than to copy Apple and sell at a cheaper price :-)

Especially I like their trolling. When I see an Android device, I laugh because it was sold by some troll on the web maybe :-)
