Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I disabled 3G by calling my network provider because it is really expensive.

But paying for 3G and turning off 3G yet still paying for it is inexpensive? Why have a cell phone with no cell service but still pay a cell provider?

and why not simply put it into Airplane mode to turn off 3G?

That's why released version 5.0.1 (you could read in the details "solves issues related to the battery")

I guess the genius want you out as soon as possible, but I don't think they lied to me saying that it's a widespread problem, taking into account comments from users. The logical, if they wanted to look good, would be told "is a strange problem, take a new iphone and shut up". But he said that although I got a new one, this will still happens.

APPLE has 40,000,000,000 iPhone 4s phones out in the world.   There are clearly a significant number with problems, but if it were most of them, this thread would be a LOT longer than 700 pages!   What would be the point of APPLE coming out and annoucing there is a problem?   All it would do is cause mass hysteria and make the problem much worse than it is, in reality.

They have quietly acknowledged the problem and are obviously working on solving it through firmware updates.   iOS 5.01 helped SOME people, but not all.   Beta testers of iOS 5.1 beta 3 appear to report some improvements, but so far, not a total fix.    It also appears that the final release will be scheduled for early March, if the schedule does not change.

For those who cannot get through more than 12 hours on a charge, I would suggest replacing your phone.   I have done NOTHING to mine, other than replacing the SIM Card with a new one.   I have everything on except Siri raise to activate and Time Zone location.   I use wifi, BT, have push eneabled for exchange and yahoo mail. Fetch for gmail.   I have iCloud active, iTunes Match Active, Photostream active, wifi sync active.

I make it through the entire day with no problems, and see even better battery life when connected via wifi.

I'm convinced the issue is related to how iOS5 deals with cellular data and the 4s dual antenna setup.   I'm also convinced that APPLE can fix the problem, but they need to be careful to not fix it by causing reception problems as a result.

I certainly wish I could go a week without charging my iPhone, but I have ALWAYS been in the habit of charging overnight, every night, and this still suits me just fine.

I don't pretend to have any idea.   Judging by the fact that this thread is much larger than any other on these forums, I would say that it's bigger than most any other issue APPLE has these days......

I'm aware that 3 months ago 5.0.1 version of iOS was released to address battery issues.

700+ pages here alone would suggest there is still an issue.

People keep posting that it will be fixed in 5.1 and that will be released in early March. I wish they'd check their facts before posting that twaddle. There is no definite release date for 5.1 and no mention anywhere that 5.1 contains any software fix for the horrendous battery life.

Best solution is still just to get a refund and buy something else. Some people get replacement iPhones from Apple stores, but as the stock they use to issue replacements is pre-owned reconditioned units, that ***** as an option.

I can't help but think this is a location based issue.

I lived in CA for 26 years and have lived in MD for the past year and a half.

    - My 4S COMPLETELY DIES within 8 hours in Maryland (with zero use...in my pocket).

    - The SAME 4S stayed charge for 2-3 days when traveling between California and Nevada with light usage.

    Anybody else experience this?

Actaully, getting a refurb is more than likely a better deal.

New case, new glass, verified completely passing the same tests as a brand new unit and additional/specific diags ran not on new units.

I've done everything but restore the entire phone.  Would restoring the entire phone work or just a waste of time? I think the best option is to replace the phone at the apple store. How long are the warranties for a sprint iphone 4s?

Just every 36 hours?  I only WISH I could go 36 hours.

I upgraded to a 32gb iPHone 4s last Friday.  After the first full charge, synced with my Macbook Pro.  Noticed battery drain was significantly higher than with my previous iPhone 4, so I turned screen brightness down to about 1/3.  Still drains about 8-10% per hour even if I am not "using" it. (obviously still checks email on a recurring schedule).

I'm about ready to fully charge it, turn on airplane mode and see how fast the battery drains - with essentially no use AND no radios turned on.

My phone is on wifi nearly all the time (other than when driving) - both at my home and office...

I got my iPhone 4S last month and using iOS 5.0.1. It terribly drains the battery. It uses almost 2% when idle.  When I turn on Siri, Location Services and Bluetooth, it drains much faster. I'm in India. When we say the most amazing iPhone ever, it should have a power packed battery backup. Apple needs to take it as a huge priority issue and resolve it as early as possible.

We have a different service here. The 3G on our networks can be activated and deactivated. Its like activating a value added service here. If we turn off 3G, we pay only for the GSM services.

Mine too drained battery when I intially bought it....Its been a month and 10 days...But later with some restores and complete battery drain and recharge, it started working fine, according to the specs....But I observed the phone was underperforming on Usage...It used to drain on wifi and music and video which was not according to the specs....I got a replacement in a day and since then, this phone has been a baby...Though it still loses about 1 percent on call every 6 minutes, doesnt matter.....And on standby in loses about 1percent every 2 hrs 15 minutes and a little longer....

So try all the steps mentioned in this thread and then if it does not help you, just go get a replacement....

    Hi,

Just bought two iPhone4s for me and my wife.
My iPhone was restored from iPhone3gs backup, and the battery works fine.

The other iPhone had battery issues!
The battery was drained about 5-8 % each hour in idle use.

This IPhone4s was restored from an iPhone3g backup.

Restored the iPhone back to factory default, and now the battery works fine!
