Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I still don't understand why my battery dies from being in sleep mode all the time. I left it over night, keep in mind, I had no apps running, no wi-fi, no 3G, just nothing running but the phone itself. I've done a full restore and still my battery is murdered just in stand-by. I went to bed with 100% battery and woke up with 68%. Doesn't make any sense.

Take it to an Apple store and they can run a diagnostics test on it.  They will tell you if the life is normal or not.  They will also verify the settings.  Mine was set to continually check for mail in all accounts I had established, which was about six at the time.  Now I have it set to manually check for email upon opening.  As noted in previous posts, you can also press the home key twice and see all apps "running".  Press the X to close them - they will only close not delete.  This may help conserve some battery life.  I have to charge mine each night and sometimes during the day.  Hope this helps, even just a little!

Thanks a lot. Seems my 4S is better after the soft reset, complete drain and full charge. Now it is better than before. Still it drains around 10% overnight when Idle. I mean it went idle at 11 pm with 76% and in the morning 7 when I took back, it was around 66%. Do we see any big issue here in terms of battery drain?

    Time since last full charge

    Usage 3 Hours, 8 Minutes

    Standby 13 Hours, 7 Minutes

    Current battery level: 62%

Check your location services.  If a lot of them are turned on, the GPS will be busy draining the battery all the time, even when you are asleep.  I found about 3 dozen turned on, most of which really didn't need to be.  You probably do need to have something like Gas Buddy turned on, but probably not Photoshop or Crackle.  Some of them amount to corporate spying anyway.

I forgot one more important thing.....the Apple tech said you should shut down your iPhone at least once a week or once every other week.

"the Apple tech said you should shut down your iPhone at least once a week or once every other week. "

This allows the iPhone to update cell tower info.

If you are dissatisfied with the product, then take it back, and get something else.  Warning, though, you may find that the new one isn't any better, and likely worse.  4G phones are notorious for... you guessed, it! ... Poor battery life.

I did. Months ago. I just check back here every now and then to see if Apple have the courage to admit either a problem or misleading specifications.

    It would appear they don't.

Not sure what you mean about 4G - the iPhone 4S isn't 4G (even with the wildly varying definitions of 4G that different operators seem to have).

Apple does not post here. It's not because they are afraid.

    These are user-to-user forums.

Yes, but I was pretty sure that if Apple had got beyond contacting a few folk to put some diagnostic app on their phone, someone would post about it here.

It's a pity that in the usual places they make statements etc, Apple won't even acknowledge there is an issue.

When I sleep at 11pm my 4s battery 100% and woke-up by 5am my battery drop to 90%. After I came to work and at 12 noon, I got message, your baterry is low (20%). I dont have this problem on my 3Gs. Same scenario, my battery low only around 9pm or 10pm rather than 12noon on 4Gs.

Can someone from apple assist us, the loyal customer for apple like us.

    TQ.

Oh!! I still think you should take it to an imagine store once....Mine drained 3 percent last night....over 9 hrs....Its not linear, sometimes it takes 3 hrs to drain 1 percent and sometimes it takes 2 hrs 15 mins but never less than 2 hrs 15mins....Both the cells i got had this stats....Well the first phone stood on 100 for 7hrs one night....That was amazing...Current phone after exchange takes about 3 hrs to 4 hrs to drain the one percent from hundred...then it constantly drains in about every 2 hrs or 3 hrs....

Apple have acknowledged the issue....They have publicly accpted the battery problem even after the release of 5.0.1....

In addition, guys have you ever noticed a problem with outgoing calls....The call fails very frequently and sometimes I cannot listen whats going on on the other side....

Another problems on call, there is nearly half the performance of the specifications....A percent is lost every 4 minutes I guess against 9 minutes as mentioned.....

Sure, I should probably take it to the one in Forum. I am also thinking to give a final shot to update the latest build iOS 5.0.1 (9A406). My current version is 9A405 which is factory shipped. Does it create any issues? What is your current software version? The most shocking thing is that I haven't tried 3G on my phone yet. The statistics are only on 2G.
