Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Nice job of making assumptions without apparently reading through many forum posts first.

The vast majority of iPhone 4s users do not have this problem. If they did, and with over 6 million units already activated; this would headline every tech blog / web site and probably national news. You're posting inside of a forum topic devoted to people with this problem. Those who don't, never come here. (would be like a swimsuit model at a weightwatchers meeting).

As for wanting Steve back to fix the problem; while he was an astounding Marketing Expert and had fantastic ideas about creating new tech; he wasn't exactly a consumer advocate. If you remember Antennagate, with the iPhone 4, his solution to reception problems from holding the phone in your left palm was "don't hold it that way". In yesterday's Macbreak Weekly Podcast, Leo Leport spoke about Jobs' reaction to antenna complaints, as outlined in the new biography; Jobs basically said screw them!

Fortunately; this is almost certainly a software / firmware related issue, and I am satisfied with the efforts that tech support has made in contacting me and many others (via our AppleID contact information) to gather useful information in order to find and fix the bug that is causing this problem.

This isn't something that can be diagnosed overnight, so give them a chance to work on it.

As for some posts that accuse Apple of trying to cover this up; because they haven't released a formal statement to acknowledge the problem; I hereby present the simplified translation of any such statement, prior to a fix being released:

Hello, we at Apple would like to officially notify all class-action attorneys and other am ulance chasers that we have become aware of an issue where about .5% of new iPhone 4s owners are experiencing a much faster than anticipated drain on their daily battery life. Despite the fact that this was not detected in our pre-release product testing; that we are actively working with the user community to diagnose and fix the problem; and that 99.5% of the new iPhone 4s owners have absolutely no problems at all - We just wanted to make this statement to help you with your TV, Radio and Newsprint ads to seek out clients to sue us. (Perhaps you might want to target your list of potential saps by placing an iAdd). While we realize that you'll end up settling out of court; since its cheaper for us to pay your extortion, rather than to pay ongoing legal and court costs; we just thought you'd appreciate our efforts to help you pocket millions of dollars in legal fees; while gaining your clients a few pennies apiece. Of course, your clients will end up paying back those few pennies, along with every other Apple Customer who isn't part of your suit, in the form of higher prices that we must place on all of our products to cover such legal (blackmail) costs. Personally; we'd rather be dealing with the Corleone family; as they are at least more honest about their "protection" collections, but one mus do what one must do.

.... The preceding is just my personal opinion to the extent that the first amendment still allows such things and is not intended to bismerch or defame the good reputation of any slime ball lawyers or law firms who feel that such a description might be accurate enough to describe them, yet still provide an opportunity to sue someone else.  (I believe that the Supreme Court is still supporting the right to utilize satire in making a point; as protected free speech!)

Well, add me to the 4S Battery Issue List. I've had it for only a few days and immediately noticed it just wasn't lasting the day. Example, today, with very light use during work, the battery was at 15-20%. I'm sorry but that's unacceptable. It should have been maybe at 85%.

But, I'm not convinced it's a hardware issue - I think it's some new feature/app/something just running in the background and ******* the battery away. I'm not ready to give the phone in just yet, we'll have to see what Apple says I suppose.

Why am I  still getting email notifications for posts on here when I disabled them all?!

It looks like it re-enables them every time you reply to a post. I think you can turn that off in your profile settings.

I had a similar problem, but I found there is also an option for each thread to disable email notifications (right of the thread title under "Actions"). I guess once you're subscribed, apple assumes you still want notifications even after you change all your email notification preferences.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that this will all be resolved long before Christmas.

I honestly believe the 4S' battery life is worse than the 4's battery life.

Once again, did you read the comparison specs Apple posted?

The 4S battery lasts "up to 200 hours" in standby; the battery of the 4 and 3GS "up to 300 hours."

    Trust me: IT IS AWESOME!

... and then, you realize Siri is only in beta, which means she'll get even better. The location reminders, iCloud, all that is only going to get better.

The batter issue is just a blip. And it's clear (to me, anyway) that Apple is working very hard to resolve it.

I just recieved my Iphone today (October 26th, a 64 gig white 4s) at 11:00 am and by 7:30 pm  I went on to check for messages, then a hole bunch of lines came across the screen, the screen started dimming and turning grey, then it turned off and would not turn back on.  The phone got really hot for about an hour, but would not turn on. It will not charge, it's completely dead.  Has anyone else had this happen to them.

The period of time that I was most active (at least in my mind), was during the commute - which exhibited the best battery performance.

Interestingly, I was at 30% 3 hours ago. Now at 25%.

The only thing that changed was my physical location.

Could it be that Siri is happier at home than at work?

Also having a huge problem with 4s battery life.  It seems that it goes down 5% from the time I unplug it until I walk out the door.  I was comparing apps between my old iphone 4 (which is being used by another member of my fam) and my 4s.  In the time it took for me to download 4 new apps over wifi on the iphone 4 it went down 1%.  In the same amount of time my 4s went down 7% by just looking at the apps in folders and not launching anything.  NIGHTMARE!

I turned off most of the notifications and Bluetooth and battery life improved dramatically. I have had the phone on since 7 am this morning and it is now 10 pm. Battery is showing 86%. The phone was used for several phone calls and lots of email checking, as well as some surfing. Prior to the changes, the battery was down to 20% by 5 pm.

maybe they sold millions of IP4S over the world and maybe 100,000 in US and Canada , but they are not here to

complain because 1% know this site.

and 95% of new owners ( never had a apple product before) dont know of that battery issue because they think it is

normal and sellers from , AT&T , Sprint , Verizon, Fido,Telus,Bell , Future Shop , Best buys(on line or little store of

cell. pÄ¥one  WONT tell that there are a battery issue IF they know.

i came here by  pure luck when i register . i knew that smart phone (never had it, only flip last 10 years) was tough

on batteries and was thinking it was normal.

when i check Apple Spec. of iIP4S that i realise that something was anormal. I have check other cell.phone

    batterys spec.................hummmmmmmmmm

i have a little HD CAM (1080P) and i can RECORD 60 minutes with a only 900 mah battery...but well spent

energy.....try that with the iphone.......... that s only a exemple.  a cell.phone is not a cam , it is just to compare technology with battery of today ,

Things not turning off when they're supposed to? What does that remind me of....?
