Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Those who have very poor linearity of their battery meter may benefit by letting the phone run all the way down to shutoff, and then recharge overnight.  This is supposed to calibrate the chip that supplies the battery charge information.

I did the exact same thing. I had 3 4's in a week and a half from ATT. the battery life was horrible I have an old 3g that worked great for 3 years until battery finally died. I turned all the junk off like the guys on here that are happy with a high dollar paper weight said to do let the batteries go all the way down , etc nothing helped. The last one which I returned Friday would loose 20% per hour and around 30% per hour if i used it in anyway. I got a new HTC droid Friday and love it, the battery is around half after 12 hours of heavy use. Apple refuses to speak about the 4s problem or offer any help, the heck with them. They continue to make and sell a product that they know is faulty.

Hope you read my reply a few posts back.....I have held my friends Galaxy S2, which is supposedly the next best after 4S....I just used his phone during a get together dinner and just tried exploring....The phone ran out of juice crazily and I could notice the green thing drain of the battery icon and it was significant in about 20 minutes....you can say about 10 percent....and thats an android phone without any issues....

Apart from that I not for one second felt S2 was dual core clocked at 1.2 Ghz and the display is cartoonish....I felt it is a perfect display to watch Tom and Jerry....

Jumping into fire is an understatement....

    Anyway luck with your move......

I think I'll give up reading this thread now. After 700+ pages of the same posts again, again and again with no actual fix discussed I'll stick with my Android and never by another iPhone.

There is only one solution to the iPhone poor battery life - send it back and get something else.

Hello guys i have white 64G, C3 serial with 9a405 only thing i did not try was factory reset, all other solutions are fail for me "mail accounts, siri, location services even, turning off cellular data". I have %50 phantom usage + %7 battery drop per hour on standby.
I notice some strange behavior; when i reset my phone settings to defaults battery indicator went up several percent for example %97 to %99 and it will be fine for half a day then i start to use some apps, it will back on fast drain again. "turning on-off wifi or location services does not make any differance" phantom usage is about %50 all the time after several hours of usage or battery drops under %60-%50 percent some how usage statistics returns to normal and i get %7 drop for all night.
My old iphone 4 16G with same apps and usage has no battery issues at all, i can walk with her for 7.5 hours with nike+gps and music on all the time.

Here’s how I sorted the ‘battery problem’ on a new iphone 4s bought Feb 2012

When the iphone comes out of the box, it is a power hungry hog with all the lights on, running on an under exercised battery.

Read through all the steps below before you set to.

Check out Settings > General > Usage and if you see that standy time and usage time are the same then it means that your iphone isn’t getting any sleep when on standby.

    Solution:

    1. 1. do reset: Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. You won’t lose any data. During the subsequent (re)set up, choose set up as a new phone.

    1. 2. do a hard reboot by holding the home button (below screen) and the standy button button simultaneously until the phone blacks out. This will zero standy time and usage time until the next 100% recharge.

    1. 3. Let the phone run down the battery until it pinks out and then do a 100% recharge. This step you can repeat for the next couple of recharges. You will see an improvement on battery performance.

The more exercise the battery gets the stronger it will become. Take the battery to the limit, in charging and draining, when you can. Avoid top ups, where possible.

In addition, follow Apples guidelines for energy saving.

ok i will try this i bought three iphones in feb mine was the problematic one. i did these steps one time and it helped batterry drain speed was reduced %15 to %7  for after %100 charge <-thats still much. currently baterry drain slows down after 4 hours or charge drops under %75 i will try your way, i hope it will help. I noticed my phone production date is 45th week (november) other two are fist and second week of 2012. Maybe apple changed something in hardware, i hope this is a real software bug.

    This is completely incorrect.

Litium ion batteries are not deep cycle and should not be regularly fully discharged and recharged. The will shorten the usable life of the battery.

Use them and top them up regularly.

Thank you Chris CA... I read that post and facepalm'd.  You are correct, J Soap... try again.

Insane the amount of misinformation around about batteries.

FWIW, just got the following stats the other day on my 4S:

    55% remaining

    Usage 6hours 4minutes

    Standby 1day 2hours

Still have yet to see ANYONE EVER get 200 hours standby (without airplane mode of course).  That's asinine.
