Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

There are known problems with some SIM cards, especially when they came from an old phone.  The update 9A406 is supposed to address that, so if removing the SIM card greatly changes things, then it might make sense to do the update, and then contact your carrier about a new SIM card, properly provisioned for a 4S.

The one I have (and it's the third one) is recent...I have phantom use but it's non linear.

Sometimes the usage time goes up shortly after I remove the phone from charge, sometimes it starts out of the blue...sometimes it stops by itself...it's strange! But it's there

The only way I can get my battery good is by turning off EVERYTHING inlcuding w-fi, cellular data, putting on airplane mode and location services and it does pretty good but I thought this was a smart phone... I payed so much for it. Ah well, I'm getting it replaced, hopefully they have better batteries.

    Hi All!

I found one of the reason of battery drainage. I'm sure by 100% and that's why:

Since the day 1 I have very good battery life: about 0.3-0.5% battery off during standby, charge needed 1 per 2 days etc. Nothing to complain. It was during 2 months already. Most of things on.

I use the iPhone with 2 simcards and change it about twice a month. Today morning I did the next exchange. I put in the same card I mostly use. I was in a car and plug the iPhone to charger. I found that the phone became unusual warm during charge and most strange that it became warm near the sim-slot.

I charged it for 100% and unplug. And I was wondered - the battery drained to 1% within 6 hours! It was a 15 hours drive so I had time. I charge the iPhone for 25% and was noticed then that discharge was about 1% every 3-4 minutes. AND! The sim slot still little bit warm.

At home I take the SIM away and went to sleep with 55% of charge. After 6 hours of dreams I got 52% - about 0.5% per hour as usual.

I put the SIM back but clean it (by ditry t-shirt honestly). And now the discharge is normal again and nothing warm.

I was at an apple store today with the battery issues we are all having.

They replaced my battery, I still have the same issues.

I asked if sim cards could cause this and they said no.

I'm going to try cleaning my sim and see if it works for me.

    Let's hope....

very frustrating reading this 736 page thread how weird Apple ignores the feedback ! 4S losing battery in 4 hour  daily use, exchange server mail on Push - this is why we need smart phone! GPS only one hour in the morning but I use the phone when it is plugged to the car. ODDLY IT IS GETTING WARM ! could this be a result of a faulty sim card ?   WHY ? WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO ? Shall I ask Apple to check the phone, maybe replace a battery or give me a new devise  it is only 3 months old

Does it happen with no SIM card?  If not, then there may be a problem with the SIM card, or the way your phone is 'provisioned'.  There have also been reports of some cards (especially in cases where a standard SIM card was cut down to fit in the iPhone 4(S)) shorting intermittently against the card holder.  If the phone gets hot in the SIM card area, I would check for this.

Yes, SIM cards CAN cause a problem with the battery.  If they short against the frame, then batteries will drain really fast, and the phone will get hot.  Also, some SIM cards taken from older machines have incompatible programs on them which may cause the phantom usage.  If you have either symptom, insist on a new SIM card.

Looks like I'll have to try another SIM card. Cleaning it did not do the trick for me. Will get onto Telstra asap for another SIM. My phone was good for 3 months too. It's crazy that apple look like they are doing nothing to address the issues of so many users ?????

I have never heard of Apple replacing a battery at the store.

They simply replace the entire handset.

The Genuis at the Apple store said I could get a replacement handset or try a battery change first. I opted for the battery as I wanted to see if it was a battery issue. Unfortunatly it appears not to be I think I'll have to go back to the store and try another handset. I might wait and see what the new firmware brings first...

I had an Iphone 4 and upgraded to 5.0.1 and got Iphone 4s and haven't had any trouble at all.

I'm not using siri, i think it's silly. Fully charged my phone 1 night before ( not last night but the night before ) and battery is still half. I've been using emails, WhatsApp, msgs, browsing so not sure where the problem is. First

I set up as the old phone to save contacts then i set it up again as a new phone so I did restore twice. Battery is fine , for both Iphone 4 and 4s, no problem so far.
