Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I think you may be onto something here.

My battery normally drops ~5%charge/hour in standby with everything off except wireless (by no means terrible, but not great) but this morning, after connecting to my PC for all of 30 seconds, the rate at which the battery is losing charge has significantly reduced to more like ~2%/hour, including some usage.

I have raised a support issue with Apple and have provided them with over a weeks worth of controlled test data which shows the correlation between ambient temperature and Phantom Usage/Battery Drain (at least in the case of my handset). They have been quite helpfull but they are unable to determine if it is Hardware or Software related. I am waiting for the iOS 5.1 release to see if it improves mattters. If not then I will try and get it replaced under warranty.

    - MobileMail is running for 7hours (I find that strange because I have set it to Manual and turned off Push);

    - apsd, BTserver, aggregated, fairplay.N94,lapd, imagent, mediaremoted, mediaserved, ubd, springboard, fseventsd, wifid, locationd, powerd, lockdownd, syslog, configd, notifyd, UserEventAgent, lauchd, Kernel_task, mDNSResponder and CommCenter are running for 10hours and 48m (that's the usage time that the counter shows);

    - networkd is running for 8hours and 19m.

Today is even worst than yesterday! 13hours and 25m of waiting time, 10hours and 42m of usage time (NOT REAL), battery down to 37%!!!

    God help me! lol

Not sure what 'fairplay.N94' is.  I have the others, and no phantom usage at all.

This may be only affecting a few phones.  Mine doesn't do this.  It is normally sitting by my chair at temps around 20C, and doesn't to change if I put it in my shirt pocket.

Well, have I been caught - I bought a new iphone 4s last friday at Chermside in Brisbane . I was assured that the poor battery life issue was fixed.

No way - with virtually everything turned off , and almost no use , my battery can limp thru the day starting at 100% and can just make the evening on 15% . No chance of lasting at all if i leave wifi on bluetooth on .

I rang Apple support - they are working on a fix - etc etc, it happens etc .

They offered to get an appointment at Chermside for tuesday or thursday of next week !

    They are very busy apparently.

I have tried the usual fixes discussed in this blog and thank you for that.

At the moment , I am at work and plug the device in every couple of hours to keep it charged if I dare to make phone calls or check my email.

Beware of battery problems with the 4s - no matter what the sales people say - they have not been fixed!

I have an iPhone 4s from Spain bougthed in November.

Since first days my thougt was about it has a bad battery, but after my SonyEricson W910 every phone have a bad battery... despite that, an Smartphone has to drain more battery because the big screen, wifi, mail, games, apps...

But the iPhone it's 700€ so I`m feeling cheated.

Depending of the use battery drains more or less, right, but it's dissapointing  this quality.

After trying some workarounds,  lack the great choice resseting items & restoring as a new iPhone, but sometime ago I found a better performance, so not done yet.

One of the worst thing was Alarm Clock Apps, they runs the whole night just to wake u with your iPod music, but they drains the battery absoluttly.

Once I've delete the app the bat becomes extremely better.

Even that, with better CPU and 8Mpx they should add extra battery power...

Actually this is my Batt %

    No Games

    No Music

    Just:

    Some very short Calls

    Some Wasap

    Some Text Msg

    One Photo

    One ScreenShot

    No Browsing

    What do u think?

That is above normal....You should go get your phone exchanged cos of  'over'performance....If the phone wasnt plugged in too long, then this is a very good stat. If the stat covers hours of music playback, its a different question....

And I guess the temprature affects the phone battery drain increasing phantom usage. I always keep my phone under my pillow after charging it to 100. I used to get around 4 hrs 30 mins before it dropped to 99. Yesterday, I did not keep it under my pillow, instead kept it aside. It took 7 hrs for the phone to drain 1percent and drop to 99.

    Funny phone....

    Any inference?

    thanks for your reply man....

maybe keeping it under pillow obstrucks the network reception signals in some way, causing the phone to search for network more often than usual (keeping in mind that our iphones 4 and 4s are not that good at network reception ).

for example, take a look at your own images which you posted above. Here in status bar, the network reception signal has dropped from 5 bar to 3 bar.

this causes a tiny little bit of more battery drain.

Something has to do with the phones temperature and not the signal reception.

This is what I use to keep my phone warm when I am at work

    photo.JPG

    and no phantom usage.

Thank God that in Greece most of the time is Summer so I hope when the weather gets better (these days are realy cold here) my phone will work normally again

I tried restoring it last night but I didn't see any changes
