Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    Hello guys,

Is this an indication of good/normal battery?

I got this after putting everyting off and completely draining the battery off twice and recharging it. Please let me know if I should be less worried after this achievement. Thanks in advance.

For users who do not exprience battery issues; your phone should have everything on with that usage and standby but currently it is not bad also not very good.

I am in total shock. I wasn't an apple user until last year. I bought a macbook air and i loved it so I bought an iphone 4s in november 2011. It was working all fine up until 2-3 weeks ago, it started loose quite a bit battery on light usage or on standby. I tried almost everything I'm aware of on this forum and has no effect. I was to Apple store yesterday and they replaced my battery although it was showing Normal in their diagnostic.

I want an answer and I can't find it... This is driving me crazy....

I'm not going to be able to say anything that hasn't already been said in regards to the 4s battery life. My intent of posting is to document the fact that yet another 4s owner is having battery issues.

I have read a number of the posts here and there seems to be as many "solutions" as there are people with the problem. One could probably narrow down the issue to two broad common denominator catagories, software or hardware or a combination of both depending on production runs.

As for myself my 4s can barely make it through the day with less than moderate usage. I followed many of the suggestions here and have turned many things off followed by a softboot to no avail.

The battery issue is present even if the device is powered off. Last night I powered it off at 2100 with 80% battery; this morning I powered it on and the battery was at 17%. I let the battery run out until the phone shut itself off then I recharged to 100%. This was done to determine if a recondition would have any impact. As of right now it's still too early to tell.

I have co-workers with a 4s, 5.0.1 and their phones are not exhibiting this problem. This leads me to believe that a) They are not running an app that can trigger a bug to start the problem, or b) if in fact it is hardware releated, their hardware is from a different production batch.

I think I'm going to give the phone another week or two and if the problem doesn't get better than I'll probably return the phone for another 4s (luck of the draw). If enough people return phones I can think of no better incentive for Apple to address the problem with a bit more urgency.

Should you be worried?   Not sure.   Are you happy that you are getting that much time, but with everything off?

    Thanks for the response!

Actually, I bought my 4S in the middle of December, and one month later it started to show problems with the speaker, in which I could not listen to the other person's voice in the calls I was doing back then. Here in the Apple Forum I saw tons of people complaining for the same problem and something like 99% assured that the problem was solved by just replacing the phone (after trying restore and setting it up as a new iPhone and stuff), so that's what I did. But that first 4S with this problem was too with an excelent battery autonomy. When I got my phone replaced, the new one came with this horrible battery, which can not last as much as my other iPhone was used to. If I'd ask for another phone, since it'd take some weeks to have it in my hands, I think I still am going to wait for Apple's release next week. But I am really disappointed with all this, unfortunately. And thanks again for you help!

Just an update from me...I replaced my phone due to battery issues and have found the same problem.  I'm not running much on the phone at this point and it still drains very quickly.  I've gone through several full cycles, done all the typical stuff to reduce the power consumption.  I think they just have either cruddy batteries or there is some other fault, software or hardware, which is causing them to misbehave.  I know others with original 4S which don't have this issue, so I'm leaning towards the battery but who knows.  Perhaps the new iOS version will magically make this all go away - away - away....

My iPhone is showing almost identical usage:  at 34% battery, usage is 4 hours 25 minutes and standby 1 day 3 hours.  I have e-mail set to fetch manually, wi-fi on, location services on for the things I want.  I'm not worried.  I turn the phone off at night  and charge it every other night.  About once a month (I've only had it a few weeks) I let it run down to under 20% and fully charge it overnight.  I will do so tonight in order to get a full day out of it tomorrow, and the next day.

So basically, with what  I would call average usage, it lasts for two days, and that's OK.  As I see it, as long as the battery doesn't run out during the day, when I need it, I can accept that.  What you pay for in terms of draining the battery, you get in an amazing phone with so many capabilities.

    It's posible,

Today I've charget the bat until 100% with a PC without iTunes and after some photos, google maps, 2 mails, 1 text msg, 10 wassaps, 15min bluethooth music and around 10 min browsing, everything in 3G, actually I have 64% Bat.

It does seem to defeat the purpose of getting an iphone when you have to turn most of the apps and processes off  just so your battery can last the day!

Try going to your home screen, then double clicking the home button where a bar will pop up at the bottom of the screen. Delete all those apps. It helps my battery last a little bit longer. Also try using a less bright screen. It might make a 1% battery change difference but it might help.

I went to the Apple Genius Bar, and the issue is caused by corrupt firmware. Installing a clean copy without restoring backup massively improved my battery life.

Sorry mate, but the only way for you to have access to a completely "clean" firmware is going to a Genius...which I can't since there are no Apple Stores in Portugal...yesterday I've performed another restore in DFU mode, set as New, and the phantom usage endures!!!

It's just NERVEWRECKING seeing something that's happening in the background (and you can't see what it is!!) and you trying all sorts of things and that ticker just keeps counting!!! Makes me want to BREAK THE PHONE!!

For sure Captain Hook felt like this when the Croc appeared.......tic tac, tic tac, tic tac.....lol
