Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    I don't use 3G.

I'm at home with a strong wireless connection. And, even if I shut off wireless and 3G, the problem persists.

When I check the phone, and the are no incoming messages of any kind, yet the battery is draining 10X faster than advertised, what then?

Mostly, though, this is just an illogical scenario: a few pending messages are supposed to suck power from the battery at that rate? Not just that rate, but it's supposed to somehow magically keep the phone's Usage and Standy numbers exactly the same?  Even when there aren't any of those messages? It doesn't make any sense.

Do you have a 4S? If you do and if you have the official build installed, you should know that it is not possible to turn off 3G, only Cellular Data. The 3G symbol disappears when you turn off Cellular Data, but you are still on 3G.

That is obviously not the case.

I restored an existing backup when I was at the Genius Bar, as I had lots of stuff I didn't want to lose.

The guy at the Genius Bar walked me through doing a clean install, and I didn't do it until the next day when it was proven the issue wasn't fixed.

I did the clean firmware install at home, on my laptop.

Oh, sorry. I assumed you had done a restore at the Genius Bar.

Although that doesn't make what I said wrong: the only way to get an "100% bug-free" firmware is at a store. When we download a build from iTunes it can be corrupted in the process.

there is nothing wrong with 'fairplayd.N94'. its a system process. i did many restore and full reset beforee, and its been there from the beginning.

If the file is corrupted during a download, the checksum will be different and iTunes will not accept the file. There are no special genius bar builds of firmware.

    Guys,

I kept my phone connected to wifi, bluetooth too was on and had two mail accounts logged in, facebook, twitter logged in with push set to every 15 mins including the location services that were required. Kept all the System services on and the phone took about 1 hr 35 minutes to lose 1 percent. And later, I switched off all the system services and slept at night and the phone lost about 4 percent over 7 hrs.

This should be fine I guess.....

yes, its definitely fine. Its good battery life. Did you calibrate your battery using the app which i suggested ????

if not then, go ahead, give it a try

You know.....I thought my battery was absolutely fine until I saw your '9 hrs usage, 20 hrs standby and 56 % remaning' stats....Anyways thats a nice app but it is sad that its not realtime. The usage stats and remaining time is programmed and does not count the actual phone and battery performance.

I will give it one more shot at draining and recharging once again and let you know.

yeah its not real time but its programmed. i dont give importance to the usage stats. i just use this app whenever i charge my battery, and the best thing is it keeps track of battery recharge like Full cycle, Normal and Overcharge. I use it everytime now, whenever i charge by battery.

note : for more accurate battery detection enable "Battery Percentage" in settings.

    Ed,

Sorry, yes you're right. I mistook 3G for cellular data usage.

I know that the phone sends information back to Apple, for instance diagnostic & usage data. I just don't know how that might affect battery operation in any sizeable way. It shouldn't, of course. I guess my basic response would be, so? I'm doing nothing to the phone that could possibly be causing this problem. It's some sort of internal issue; Apple's responsibility. I'll do yet another re-set today, bu thave no fait that it'll work in the long run. Twice now - on two phones - my 4s has operated perfectly, then only later developed (or re-developed) this problem. So maybe this latest "fix" will work for a bit. Maybe not. If Apple wants to start paying me to test their machines, great. Until then, I'm just an inconvenienced customer who, before long, will start shopping around for a rival product.

Same as me. I won't give it a rest until I get a "good" unit. I didn't invest 600€ to get a crippled phone and stay still without a fuss!

in my background apps, i can also see that my email is running, but i actually don't have any email registered nor i don't also open it. but when i use again the battery doctor app and see again this mail, it is still there. i wonder, why it is running, i don't even use it,

    That happens to me too.

And if you tap the home button twice it won't be there!

The only way to close it is to access the App Mail and THEN tap twice the home button and close it manually.

But it's only temporary, it will return...
