Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Who knows? But I would assume that if our phones had the kind of battery life per charge as was advertised, we wouldn't much care what was spinning away in the background. These things may not be connected in any way.

And just because the mail process is "running" doesnt mean its actually doing anything. Could just be suspended in the Ram. So the problem would then lie elsewhere. My phantom comes and goes. two days ago it was here, today it isnt.

I got finally my iphone 4s replaced. So far there is no sign of battery draining and I have downloaded  great number of apps without affecting the battery life. Hope it will continue like this.

I was just wondering if my battery life seems fine?  I have a 3GS and the actual usage time is mainly phone and text with checking my settings and the app store.

Stats are: usage 34 mins standby 9hrs 8mins battery 90%. Thanks!

thats fine. but you can make it better. with that much usage your battery should have been at 95%.

your iphone4s and battery is OK. there is no defect.

but you need to do one more thing, calibrate you battery.

download an app called "BATTERY DOCTOR" from appstore, which is free at appstore and its download size is about 5.6 MB. its Developer is "Beijing Kingsoft Internet".

install this app in your phone, open it and charge your phone till its 100% complete, from Fast Charging>Continuation>Trickle Charging.

then unplug from the charger and completely drain it till its 1% and shutdown itself due to low battery.

wait for around 15-30 minutes (if you can then keep the phone untouched for 1 hour), then charge the phone again (remember wall charger, do not charge through PC). When the battery will be charged till 10%, the phone will switch on again, then open BATTERY DOCTOR and let it charge completely till 100%

For accurate battery detection, enable " Battery Percentage " in your phone settings.

NOTE : You may have calibrated your battery before, but still do once more with this app. I too have calibrated by battery 4 times before, but didn't help. So i did battery calibration once more with this app and it helped me a lot, i got amazing battery life now.

I charged my phone until it reached 95% (I had to leave so I couldn't wait for it to get 100%) and enabled the Wi-Fi, and now, something more than 12 hours, here's my stats: 1 hour and 29 minutes of Use and 11 hours and 22 minutes of Standby, and the battery is now at 69%. I in fact used the internet on my phone for 15~20 minutes, received some messages with iMessage, took something about 20 pictures (5% drained in 10 minutes with those) and received also one call. I don't really think this is good battery life, but I want to share this to see if I'm just being too much paranoid with my phone. Thanks!

I have a brand new 4S. My battery life is acceptable, yet not great. I ususally get around 6:30 usage and about 1 day standby. Right now my stats read:

    52%

    Usage 2:53

    Standby 18:51

I turned the brightness to about a quarter. I did a couple full cycle charges as well but it didn't help much. Now I will try the tip with leaving it off for 30 minutes after it shut down. I'm interested in the app you're mentioning. Battery Doctor+. I'm always careful with such app, therefore I'm interested to know what you consider yourself "amazing battery life" after you did the trickle charge with this app? Thanks for sharing this experience with me.

    Hi

Default setting for IPhone after putting it back to factory defaults is that PUSH is set to on, this eats the battery.

My IPhone used up its power so much i was within hours of switching back to a Nokia when i found the solution. Obvioulsy the wireless and the bluetooth uses a lot of power but the one thing that caused the major issue was the PUSH for email. I never had the problem before but after i put my put my phone back to factory default the battery was dead within a few hours. To turn it off:

    Go to settings

    Mail/Contacts/calendars

    Click on Fetch new Data

    Put Push to Off

    Change Fetch to Manually

When you want your email just click on Mail

    click on All Inboxes

    This will update your email.

    Regards

    John

there is nothing wrong with 'fairplayd.N94'. its a system process. i did many restore and full reset beforee, and its been there from the beginning.

While it is plainly something from Apple, I just don't need anything to decrypt encrypted music files, since I don't HAVE encrypted music files.  Or I shouldn't, since I didn't buy any of them from the iTunes Store.

My phone did get warm once.  It was running GPS (maps while traveling), and on the car charger.  I suspect it delivers more wattage than the normal wall charger, or even the USB port on my laptop.  No proof, just that it seems to recharge faster on the car charger.  Probably NOT a good thing.

While I share your frustration, the phone's capacities should be such that having this stuff humming away in the background doesn't really affect performance. And I'd doubt that its related to the whole battery diaster. fact is, on those fleeting occasions when my phone has operated correctly, I've been very satisfied with battery life; I assume all of these programs were operating then, too. Something else (or more than one somethnig else) is going on.  Maybe the OS update will fix it. But columns like this:

    http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/ios-51-beta-2-still-doesnt-address-iphone-4s4 -battery-issue/17265

don't instill a lot of confidence in that regard.

I am one of those fortunate ones who just doesn't have a battery problem.  I have been hoping that giving details of my phone with no problem may help others who do have a problem.  It doesn't appear to be a simple case of an easy fix.  I hope thaat 5.1 fixes some of the issues, that, probably cumulatively, contribute to the problem, but that won't help those who were unlucky enough to get  a phone with a bad battery, or a bad radio chip.  Only Apple really knows how many of those there are, and, knowing Apple as I do, I wouldn't expect them to publish that information.

    I don't use 3G.

I'm at home with a strong wireless connection. And, even if I shut off wireless and 3G, the problem persists.

When I check the phone, and the are no incoming messages of any kind, yet the battery is draining 10X faster than advertised, what then?

Mostly, though, this is just an illogical scenario: a few pending messages are supposed to suck power from the battery at that rate? Not just that rate, but it's supposed to somehow magically keep the phone's Usage and Standy numbers exactly the same?  Even when there aren't any of those messages? It doesn't make any sense.

Currently, the only way you can 'not use 3G' is to be in an area where it is not available.  Otherwise, you WILL be using 3G as there is not way to switch it off for the calling portion of the phone, only the data portion.  Should you get to a place where 3G is not avialable, the phone will report E (been there, seen that), and if you turn off cellular data, I don't know what it will display, because I didn't think to try that.  Edge network is glacial compared to 3G.

    Guys,

I kept my phone connected to wifi, bluetooth too was on and had two mail accounts logged in, facebook, twitter logged in with push set to every 15 mins including the location services that were required. Kept all the System services on and the phone took about 1 hr 35 minutes to lose 1 percent. And later, I switched off all the system services and slept at night and the phone lost about 4 percent over 7 hrs.

This should be fine I guess.....

That is downright outstanding.  I suspect some users here would be ecstatic to get half that battery life.

That's about what I see on my 4S.  It is currently at 9 hours since last full charge, and 47 minutes usage, with 88% remaining in the tank.
