Ok. That explains it. AT&T has both bands, but has chosen not to allow the toggle.

I do find it strange that its has always been an option on the 4 and it was only the 4S that the feature was removed...

I turned off all email notifications but I'm still receiving emails every time someone replies to this thread. What the crap?

Have you turned off Push email?

  • Daveed84 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

No, what does that have to do with anything? I don't want to receive the emails at ALL, not just not on my iPhone

Interestingly enough, now it just sends me empty emails. Oh well, time to great a custom email filter

Sorry, I should have mention that I changed the SITE settings, not anything on my iPhone

Been testing beta of iOS 5.1 on my iPhone 4S and it has improved things dramatically, see:

Can't see a difference so far, but then I didn't have any battery issues anyway.  Like the new quick access to the camera.

I just upgraded to iOS 5.1 upgrading process costs %4 of my battery while it is connected to iTunes. (drops %93 to %89) we'll see what happens now. My first impression Siri's text to speech engine is a lot faster ..

I tried the wireless update, but the server was busy.  Downloaded from one of the apple servers, and installed via iTunes.  6 minutes to download, and it installed while I made a run to the restroom.  When I returned, it was updated, and rebooted, ready to use.  Seems a bit 'snappier'.  Would really like to see a complete list of changes.

BTW the 3G/2G switch is NOT available for AT&T users, a least not for GSM in my area.  Maybe there just isn't any 2G service here??

The 3G toggle is not present in the final version of iOS 5.1. The only option is turn off cellular today completely, which was available in the previous version.

Seems to be there for some users, not for others.  Depends on what service you have.

By default, the email will be turned back on if you post to the forum again after you set the forum not to send email.

Jameson,  Actually there was an announcement that 5.0 had battery issues and 5.0.1 was developed to address it. Afterwards Apple said there were still some remaining issues they were looking into.

Freddy no that is completely a different update/version. iOS 5.1 not 5.0.1 . And yes 5.0.1 help me and a LOT of other folks. I have no issues with battery since 5.0.1. BUT some folks still did and do. and iOS 5.1 was released today to address that as well as other items.

Actually, there was NEVER any announcemnt that there even is a battery issue, never mind a fix.   Check your facts sir..........

I am on the very same planet actually. The one where iOS 5.0.1 was announced a while back and this would take care of all our battery issues....

    Did that help you?

AT&T just announced that they are shutting down many 2g sites to free up bandwidth for 4g expansion.   I'm sure that has something to do with the decision to drop the toggle switch from AT&T phones.

    Not true.   Show me.

You are referring to only deleting the notifications that are already set up.

Go to Your Stuff at top right of this page.

Select Preferences then Email notification preferences.

Set Automatically receive notifications for all discussions I reply to: to No.

You will not receive any more notifications for threads you post in.

Go to Your Stuff > Your Profile then select Manage email notifications on the right side under Actions to see/clear what you are already subscribed to.

To subscribe specifically, select Receive email notifications under Actions on the right side of the topic you are viewing.

The last Beta had the option to disable 3G, but this seems missing from the release of 5.1! Is it me or is everyone noticed this?

    Not there here!
