Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I'm already doing a restore (DFU Mode).

I'm keeping all of my fingers crossed...toes included!!

I hope this software solves my phantom usage problem...if it doesn't, tomorrow iPhone is going to the techies...

First impressions: Siri "Raise to Speak" bug continues. Bad sign...

If you want to really turn off the sensor, after you've de-selected Raise to Speak in the Settings menu, you'll have to turn off the phone. Otherwise, it will stay on.

Now I have the possibility of turning 3G off. Good sign...

Bullet, My response was regarding another post that Apple never said there was a battery issue at all or that there was never a fix mentioned with 5.0.1 patch. As I said I did the 5.0.1 update back in November whenever it was and yes it helped along with tweaking some settings that are mentioned throughout this forum. Not turning off all settings as some here would say that several of us are recommending (we are not saying that ever )  but turning off items I dont need in locations and diagnostics reporting back to Apple and Time Zone location GPS etc.

Today I did update to 5.1 and as far as I can tell all is still fine. Again I did not have the battery issue like many here discuss since 5.0. The first patch helped me. I will say that monitoring the usage and comparing to specs I am right on target. So I would certainly recommend you update to the latest version as Apple has been working on resolution to the remaining issues since November and it is mentioned in the release notes that battery issues were addressed. Also early testers on the beta version reported it had helped as well. So update and see if it helps in your case is my recommendation. OTA is smaller and perhaps quicker but iTunes is an option as well.

The so called "bug"  you refer to is really by design not a bug. The sensor is designed to stay on whenever the phone is not locked so it can tell when its raised to your face and can activate Siri. So if you dont use that feature it make since to turn it off (yes a reboot is required to lock it in) but givin the technology I seriously doubt that sensor uses that much power. I suspect not much more than an LED. For the record I do leave it off cause any extra drain no matter how small for features I dont use just makes since to try and save.

Since there is a switch to turn the sensor off, I personally think that it is indeed a bug...if not, why include the switch?!

Make sure you don't have anything in your hosts file blocking access to Apple's servers. Most commonly you might have put an entry in your hosts file when doing jailbreak-related activities.

Sorry yes there is a switch to turn it off. I thought you meant the fact thatsince the sensor is always on was the "bug". Yes the switch turns it off but in past a reboot was required. I assume you are stating you still have to reboot after flipping the switch even with 5.1. So yeah if you actually use tat feature and switch it on and off it will be a bit cumbersum to have to reboot.  However if I used it I would just leave it on all the time. Easier to press the home button than to go into settings, turn on then hold up to face to talk to Siri.

Yeah. But that's a minor thing, a detail.

My main concern is in fact the battery...

    Guys

Just updated my iPhone 4s - 64GB (ATT) to 5.1 and I don't see any switch to turn off 3G

Settings -> General -> Network - I don't have the switch to turn off there

    Any comments?

    TIA

Been using ios 5.1, 50%, 2hrs usage and 5 hours of standby. Is this normal? Post your battery life with 5.1. I use my phone mostly for SMS and safari web browsing on 3G
