Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    Let me add one comment:

Besides battery issues, I'm very frustrated...

Suppose I sent by mistaken an email to someone and I made a typo: john@mi.com

and the correct way was john@me.com. Doesn't make any sense to need to make a restore using iTunes to correct it.

Steps to Reproduce: Sent an email to someone and make a typo and try to delete.

Expected Results: I really expect to have the ability to remove the complete list or individual emails (cache) from my iPhone. Unfortunately Cydia (AutoFill Eraser) has this ability, but I refuse to jailbreak my iphone to have it.

Please Apple! IMHO this is not complicate. As we have right now more and more iPhones have been using for Enterprise Corporations, that is a critical feature that is missing on a professional device (smartphone)

Sorry my friends, I know the thread is related to battery, but I should make this comment. I'm very frustrated that I cannot remove wrong emails. :-(

my device is no more jailbroken. Restored it via itunes long time ago. And ya, i have updated to iOS 5.1 after many download errors. it was probably due to busy apple servers.

I do have the option to turn off 3G. Yet to test the battery life

you should try shutting off your apps that are running in the background. double tap your home button, and you will see the apps that are running.

hold your finger over one of them, much like you would when trying to delete an app, or when tring to move them around on your screen.

close all the apps you have running, and that should save some of your battery life. also, turn your brightness down. there is almost no need to have it at full power all of the time.

This update has fixed my battery issue, at least for now.

Standby Time, 6 Hours 27 Minutes

    Usage Time, 14 Minutes

I've used a few percentage points of the battery in that time. Before the update, the Usage and Standby numbers would both have read 6 hours and 27 minutes, and I'd have burned through about 25% of my battery.

Thanks, Apple. I'm out of here. It's been fun.

Of course, if the issue returns, I'll be back...

I've updated to 5.1 last night. Since I had a hard reset I don't have the usage-standby time but will do a full charge after finishing my battery and see how it goes.

Last night, at home connected to wifi, icloud on, push email was on and I've just used it like normal I only lost 6 percent overnight. This morning I'm on 3g, looks like losing 3-4 percent an hour with push on.

My battery life improved massively. Touch wood... Will report usage times later and hopefuly this will be the end of it!

    Thanks

Did anyone else's 3G sign at the top change to 4G on AT&T?!?!?!??

Yep. That was one of the changes listed in the release notes. It's because other carriers call services with the same speeds as AT&T "4G", so AT&T asked apple to change it. It does imply any change in speed or upgrade.

I am now on 5.1 on my iPhone 4S on a Norwegian carrier called Telenor. I have the ability to switch off 3G, but I can still use Edge to connect to internet. This was a feature I missed from the iPhone 4, so I am pleased this is back. I work on a train travelling 210 km pr hour in areas of bad cell phone reception, so edge is fast enough for me as 3G doesn't work too well there anyway.

As for the battery: I charged my phone to 100% during the night. I had a 34 minute phone call around 10 o'clock this morning, and I that brought the battery down to 96%. Now about 3 hours of standby later I am down to 95%. Only one percent in 3 hours standby, that is a huge improvement for me.

I am happy about 5.1 so far. I am glad Apple addressed the battery problems properly.

Fantastic Freddy! So you're on edge? not using 3g and it went down only 1 percent? Great!

My 4s will not hold a charge and seems to not charge past 20% now. It was fine until 2 days ago, then suddenly it won't take a charge at all, or go past 20% at least.

I have not run the lastest update. Planning on it tonight.

This is very frustrating, I have turned off bluetooth and wifi.

    Thoughts or help??

    Thanks

    Hey guys!

    Well, so far so good.

I now have the usage time correct and the battery seems to be fine - as in: behaving as it should!

I took it off the charge by 6AM and after 7 hours later, ate the top right corner, I see: 98%.

Only took a brief call and the rest is standby time.

I'm pretty much using the same settings I was using (everything turned off - in order to do a comparison test, I'll have to do this for a while. Then, if all is ok, I'll start to install the app, music, videos and games).

The only difference is that I turned 3G off.

Will be watching the phone, because I already had this results earlier...and then, out of the blue, It started to drain rapidly...

P.S. Did you like the nifty touch of the camera app in the Lock Screen? Ater you've slided up to access the camera, you can slide it down and it will return to the Lock Screen. Cool feature
