Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I did a reset after the update. I disabled the automatic brightness. I enabled the location and batter percent icons, and I also enabled Wifi. Everthing else at defaul settings.

I think most of my battery drain is due to poor network coverage at work in my area. iMessage texts take much longer at work than they do at home. 3G web browsing (I refuse to call ATT's coverage 4G) is also much poorer at work.

So before I updated my phone to 5.1, I had to restore it using 5.0.1 9A406 build because the speaker on my phone died and refused to work. Before that my phone had automatically gotten fine. It used to last two days easily.

However since then I've had unbelievable phantom usage. Its around 8 minutes less than the standby time. I thought 5.1 would fix it but no, it hasn't gone away.

My phone is in bone stock condition. No apps installed whatsoever, no mail accounts, no nothing. Only connected to iCloud once to download my contacts, then turned that off to.

It lost around 30% in 5 hours yesterday before I went to sleep. When I woke up this morning, it had lost 40%. That's 40% of battery gone without doing anything.

I've tried doing everything. Set up the iPhone as new, disabled location serivces, Siri, EDGE, 3G, don't send diagnostics usage, no apps, no mail accounts nothing. I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I can't even return this phone because it's out of the 30 day period and I'm not in the States.

I've had the iPhone 4S for 1 week and already have swapped it out 3 times over the battery issues. I updated this morning to 5.1, which did ALMOST nothing, but was able to squeeze 3 hrs of reading (already downloaded on wifi) RSS feeds, 30 +/- minutes of talk time and 9H of standby before it drained -- THIS IS RIDICULOUS! Apple needs to recall these devices immediately, they are NOTHING close to the specs promised and its simply false advertising. Either that, or all iPhone 4S users should get a voucher for the iPhone 5. It's patently absurd that we must turn off everything on the phone to have it work somewhere close to normal.

I updated my phone last night after been having horrible battery life and left it on the charger last night and today I've been iMessaging, Facebook and Safari while with the new update and just wondering if my battery life is good so far? Would be good to get people's opinions and comparisons. :)

    Time since last charge:

    Percentage: 70%

    Usage: 3 hours, 10 minutes

    Standby: 10 hours, 55 minutes

Again, Many many people have amazing battery life and including me. Everything is according to the specs and that is no false advertisement. Swapping thrice in a week is really a dumb thing to do. My battery used to lose a percent twice faster than specs but few charge cycles did a great job on the phone. I suggest you atleast go through 10 charge cycles and one or two restores and if you do not have the pateince to be a good customer for an outstanding brand, just go back and demand a refund.

Why do I need to to have "patience to be a good customer"? Do I owe Apple something? I paid Apple a LOT of money for the phone, they better give me a phone that works right the first time. I understand that there must be some sort of science involved with why this kind of battery drains fast at first. But my new Android has the same kind of battery (lithium-ion) and it worked perfectly, the first time I took it out of the box... so I wonder why the iPhone battery needs to be pampered like this. For the record I had my iPhone 4S replaced twice within a month, each had gone through at least 10 charge cycles (twice a day, it died that fast), at least 5 restores, and everything was always off.

Not everyone has had battery issues. My phone was great for about 2 weeks before it started acting up. Reseting the phone seemed to temporarily fix the problem. Now with iOS 5.1 it seems to be fixed and it actually seemed to improve. I did all this with almost everything at default settings.

The iPhone battery doesn't need to be pampered.

What I mean by pampering is, Pavan Kulkarni implied that you have to be a good customer and be patient and wait for at least 10 charge cycles before it reaches the right specs But I am glad that 5.1 fixed the problem

I think these things are designed to withstand charging/discharging abuse. I understand your frustrations. I hope you're happy with whatever phone you're using.

I think that the 3G (or whatever ATT wants to call it) is one of the hungrier applications on the phone.  The specs say 6 hours, and we all know that their tests were made virtually standing under a cell tower with 5 bars, solid.  The farther you are from the tower, or the more obstructions between you, the more the phone ramps up the transmitter power to maintain useful contact.  If you are moving around in a car, train, or bus, the situation becomes worse because not only does the distance change, but there is more talk between your phone and the cell, negotiating handoffs, etc.  I see vastly more drain when I am away from my wi-fi than when I am at home, where signal strength is, at least average.

hey guys i'd like to know whether my phone's battery is good enough or not?

i slept for 7 hrs and forgot to turn off my wifi, music, but with no other app running,

i have no location services enabled.

used the phone only for whatsapp (group notif OFF), 2-3 times of texting, tweeting.

1 call for about less than 1 minute, playing bakery story (online) for several minutes.

iMessage, 3G, cellular data, Siri, fetch email, iCloud, bluetooth are all OFF.

    Hi guys,

Seems better since 5.1 on mine. Used to get like 8-10 hours standby if I'd use 3G, basically the phone wouldn't last a day.

Now I have everything ON, except bluetooth + vibration + fairly good 3G usage + SIRI fun + some photos and

    3 hours usage

    24 hours standby

    40% remaining

I couldn't get that far before the update.

thats awesome man, be happy with your phone now.

thats very good battery life. Today's every smartphone last from 1 single day to 1.5 day, not more than that.
