Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

thats awesome man, be happy with your phone now.

thats very good battery life. Today's every smartphone last form single 1 day to 1.5 day, not more than that.

I know that, and you know that, but convincing some people on here is pretty much a lost cause.  They seem to think that you can stream movies via wi-fi, and play them at the same time, and only the wi-fi time should be counted.  And many seem to think that the phone should last 200 hours if you just let it sit on the table, with all the other functions on all the time.  Those folks aren't going to be happy.

I totally concur with this battery problem.. I had better luck with the 5.1 beta 3.   You know come to think of it all the betas that claimed to fix did when it was in beta but when released they were worse and 5.1 is worse than them all

My phone developed a very interesting usage/standby time after the upadate.

Last night I fully charged it Push mail on, wifi connected. When I woke up after 8 hours 17 mins, it was only 7 minute usage time and the battery was 100 percent still. I've thought this is a dream. Then I checked new and stuff around 25 minutes-ish. I've lost 6 percent. Now I'm on 3g and push mail is off. It's 1pm now almost. my battery is 75 percent. I haven't used much and I turned off push. Did a few phone calls, not long maybe in total 10 mins.

    usage: 1 hour 46 mins

    standby 12 hours 44 mins

Looks like there is some phantom usage but i don't understand where it's coming from. It was much better at home. At work I have a full bar 3g, I'm in the middle of London basicly. Still confused a bit.. Hmm....

PS: I have icloud, only contacts are on.

i can concour this behavior if i do not use my phone it is ok %6-8 percent drop over night without phantom at most.
if i started to use my phone battery drain goes crazy. normally i use everything on bluetooth off.. i notice my reception is weaker now.

My iPhone 4S, after updating to iOS 5.1 saw vast improve of battery life. But not in the first moment.

This morning I notice, that I lost 10% of battery in less than 30 minutes (just checked mail, and done some phone calls). It was 100% and very fast drained to 90%. What I did is to restart my iPhone (just switch it OFF and switched it ON) and instead of 90% it showed 99%.***?

    Well, that confused me.

After that, I notice, that, again, battery procents were going down very quickly. I checked usage stats, and I saw that Usage time and Stand By time were the same data. I thought that, maybe some app is draining battery so I closed them all, but data in Usage stat remain same, showing that phone is not going on stand by.

So I did reset settings and soft reset, and after that...Usage stat is now showing OK, and my battery life is much much better. I unpluged my iPhone this morning around 7.00hrs, and now is 14.00hrs.  Usage time data shows 2 hours and 38 minutes of usage, most of this is on 3G, phone calls, and e-mails. Battery percentage now is 77% which is great. Usually in this time of day it would be around 50% or less.

My mail  (3 e-mail accounts) are all on push, and checking every 30 min. Location services are all on, except system services (all off), brightness is on 80%, iCloud is ON for everything except email.

If you are using Foursquare app, with option "radar" ON, then you should deactivate it in foursquare because it can drain battery in matter of hours.

Have you tried a DFU restore? You can google that for instructions and try that. Its basically a fresh low level reload of the firmware. Also the iPhones have a 1 year warranty so Apple should replace it if you call them.

So before I updated my phone to 5.1, I had to restore it using 5.0.1 9A406 build because the speaker on my phone died and refused to work. Before that my phone had automatically gotten fine. It used to last two days easily.

However since then I've had unbelievable phantom usage. Its around 8 minutes less than the standby time. I thought 5.1 would fix it but no, it hasn't gone away.

My phone is in bone stock condition. No apps installed whatsoever, no mail accounts, no nothing. Only connected to iCloud once to download my contacts, then turned that off to.

It lost around 30% in 5 hours yesterday before I went to sleep. When I woke up this morning, it had lost 40%. That's 40% of battery gone without doing anything.

I've tried doing everything. Set up the iPhone as new, disabled location serivces, Siri, EDGE, 3G, don't send diagnostics usage, no apps, no mail accounts nothing. I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I can't even return this phone because it's out of the 30 day period and I'm not in the States.

ok so 10.9/200= .05  3.17/9= .35  (assumming you are on wifi for internet use) since you didnt really state if on wifi or 3g.  so 100%- (5+35)= 60% remaining. Clearly you are above this. Also assuming you are using 4s not a iPhone 4. You can get it closer if you plug in the figures for each type of use, talk=8, 3g internet =6,  wifi internet=9 etc.  (avg 3g and wifi internet use 7.5)

So you are above Apples posted spec if my assumptions are correct! Glad it worked for you

I updated my phone last night after been having horrible battery life and left it on the charger last night and today I've been iMessaging, Facebook and Safari while with the new update and just wondering if my battery life is good so far? Would be good to get people's opinions and comparisons.

    Time since last charge:

    Percentage: 70%

    Usage: 3 hours, 10 minutes

    Standby: 10 hours, 55 minutes

Can you people please state where your brightness is up to and if you have auto brightness on or off.

All of you are just mentioning the later.

The auto should be on and set it to as low as you can and still be acceptable to you. I am on about 60%. The auto will only adjust up to the max you have the slider on so leaving it on is a good thing as it will further dim if need be but not go up past your slider setting. Some say to turn of off for some reason. I suspect they think it jacks it up to 100% if need be and it ignores your slider. That is not the case from what i understand and have seen.

Well...You dint get the point....Apple gives you a new phone everytime you walk in. Now thats something which no other brand in the world can match. Now, its upto you to replace it or not. The guy had replaced his phone 3 times in a week. Now, I pointed that to be impatient. People have the opportunity to get their money back instead of sitting an whining about the phone. A customer takes the same risk as the brand while buying and selling a product respectively. Some guys have had seven phones replaced in this thread.

Customer support apart, it has been very clear that people with phones that drained 5 to 10 percent on standby every hour has come down to .5 to 1 percent every hour. Again, you can blame the unit, not the iPhone 4S. It is not that they are giving you a faulty phone on purpose. Only the user will know whether the phone is good or not.

And all batteries are custom manufactured as per companay's requirements. So, if you strip iPhone, you wont see a Galaxy S2 or Sony Arc S battery incorporated. That is why the difference.

PS: I have icloud, only contacts are on.

Lots of things go on internally, such as maintaining your cell connection, especially when you are moving around in a car, train, etc., and many other things, such as checking to see if you have pressed the 'home' or 'sleep' buttons, checking to see if alarms need to be sounded, looking for SMS or iMessage activity.  Unfortunately, there is really no way, currently, to figure out which of these things do, and don't, increment 'usage'.  Last time I checked, my phone had about 30 internal processes running most of the time.

I turned it off because it didn't seem to work at all, except that sometimes it would flash the screen to a higher level of brightness, when not necessary.  Didn't need that.

    Need your HELP.

I wanna do a reset/ "reset all settings" tonight, after installing ios5.1, just to make my battery life better..

My question is: how do i do it? drain my battery to let's say 5-6%, and then do that "reset all setting", or drain it to 5-6%, then charge it full, then do "reset all setting"? i have a 4s

    Thanks in advance,

    Peter
