Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I think this is the common link.

I have 3G service, 5 bars of it.  I can place a call (like normal), I can text like a mofo.

I have NO data service.  None!  No apps, no mail, no safari, no iMessage (had to turn it off to send messages to iOS users).  WiFi also does not stay connected.

I can get very brief sporadic use of 3G data if I power off/power on, or occasionally if I cycle airport off/on.  This has just become stupid.

I am losing between 10-15% an hour when not in use.  At this rate there is no way I can go a full day without charging durig the day.

    Hello...

This topic is way out of hand and the 100s of posts will bury mine in 2-minutes.

    1.  Stop returning your phones unless there is a secondary issue, it won't fix it.

    2.  The SIM card is not the issue.

    3.  Apple is working on the problems, 100's of people are collecting log files for Apple.  I turned my over yesterday, give them time to fix.

    4.  Some will get a FIX by restoring the phone as new, resetting all settings, etc.. but not all, as there are software / iOS issues going on right now.

    5. The useful things that have been posted have been posted to death, please follow them, they do work and will bring your batter under control for now.

Best thing to do is make the basic modifcations as mentioned.

I was losing 10% to 15% and hour, and now I can last 2-days with normal use.  Not what I want, but will work for now.  My old iPhone 4 on 4.3 lasted 3-4 days.  My new iPhone 4S on iOS 5 as mentioned lasts 2-days.  My wife's iPhone 4 on iOS5 lasts 2-3 days.

Relax, give it time, this too shall pass.

Just wanted to add to the solution space in case the apple people are still collecting data on the issue from these posts.  I had the same drains 20% an hour problem with nothing running.  I took my microsoft exchange account off(including calendars), reset my network settings, and I'm "cured"...2 hours off the charger with no use and I'm at 100% still.

I had the push servers notifications off, and the fetch of mail set to manual with this exchange mail account, and i was still drainging the battery.  So something was still off under the covers trying to do something with my exhange account with no outwards indication.

I upgraded and restored from backup and have tried various fixes etc that work for a bit and then stop working....

Yesterday I did this  SETTINGS>GENERAL>RESET>RESET ALL SETTINGS

DO NOT## erase all content and settings DO NOT I repeat erase all content and settings

RESET ALL SETTINGS will erase your  wifi settings as well as any personalization that you have made in settings (font size sound alarm settings wallpapers etc  and reset them all  to the default..... it took me all of 15 minutes to do and reset everything to my preferred settings and my battery is what I expect it to be (ie just like my ip4 did before the upgrade).

I did not disable ANYTHING other than bluetooth-- icloud is on siri is on location services is on everything is on. AND THE PHONE DOESN'T GET HOT

    enjoy your iphones folks

I tried this yesterday on my own and IT FIXED IT FOR ME TOO!  I have been from miserable to 46 min usage, 6:23 standby and 87% left!  SO much better!!!

When you reset all settings (save content), I set up my phone as new and it took me through the setup wizard.  I did not restore from ANYTHING because I had my content and apps.  I only had to resetup my network and then tweak my network to my prefernces

Location: on (turned off time zone, location based iAds, Diags)

    Siri: on

    Wifi: on

    BTooth: off

iTunes wireless synch: Off right now since I have not synched on iTunes to turn it on

    Notifications: on

@ prk60091 -- you seem content.  Should I be as well?  (first iPhone so I have nothing to compare this to)

It's my first full day with the iPhone 4S after receiving it yesterday. I had the iPhone 4 and had a routing of charging it every night. On a bad day I might drain the iPhone 4 battery down to the red zone by evening time. But typically I'm putting it on the charger before bedtime at about 25%.

Well here I am at 11:30am on day 1 with 27% battery! I don't even carry a charger with me because I've never needed one.

This is disappointing. I hope it gets fixed soon. I'm not willing to disable all my features to improve battery life and will happily go back to my iPhone 4 which works fine.

I have a new symptom. I did a full restore last night through wifi, not connected to the computer. I set the phone up as new, did not restore from backup, and did not add any apps. Just a test to see how the battery would last like this. Now the Settings menu has crashed twice, and I see an occasional delay when I move through the menus. Just reporting a new experience that my help sort this out, not whining

Hi, I seem to be doing ok, here is a screen cap and as you can see I have bluetooth on. I've also used some Siri today, made a couple of short calls and done some texting.

marco your usage shows that you will get about 24hrs of standby...you obviously are in a different environment than i- you have used yours less....i would be content with your usage  (3G ***** battery life out of every phone which I have read is why no 4G in iphones yet- 3/4G are battery vampires)

Is apple still reaching out to people about their battery life? And has anyone heard from apple about a timeline for a fix for the battery issue...or a patch for ios5....

My issue may have been a combination of somethings up and hardware.  I am having much better luck at the moment with a new phone.
