Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

This is nothing like I've seen before...I hope I didn't break my battery meter because I'm not believing it, lol.

LOL that is what I thought yesterday when I saw 90% left after 1 day!*

Right now I'm seeing 1 day and 15hours with 78% left!!

With 5.0.1 it would only last 1 day from 100 to 0%...WOW!! Drastic change for me!!

The only difference to my previous configuration is that I now have 3G off and I'm not experiencing phantom usage. So, 5.1 changed things for me!! BIG TIME!!

    * Very light usage: several phone calls and several text messages, that's it.

No web surfing, no wi-fi, no music, games or video. This is VERY light use, but if I was using 5.0.1, by now I would have to start thinking on charging the phone...for the second time in 2 days!

Is my iPhone 4s battery bad at all?  Should I reset settings or anything to fix the battery if it needs fixing?

It loses 10% every 30mins with music playing the whole time & me going back-and-forth between 2 apps to check to see if I have any new messages on them, then going to FaceBook every 5-10mins

Sounds like normal usuage. Only thing you didn't specify is if you are on wifi or 3G. Also is it streaming music or music on the phone? Makes a big difference if you give us more information but sounds normal to you. At your rate your battery will be at 10% at 4.5 hours of usage which to me yours is pretty high.

I am currently on Wi-Fi.  I am listening to music via the Music app.

I just didn't know if mine was good because one guy only loses 3% every 25mins.

Depends on how you use your phone. Every phone is different and usuage is different. Just because someone gets better battery life than you doesn't mean anything.

    Hello,

Here is my usage after 5.1 update:

I have 51% battery after 3:00 of usage, mostly for facebook and twitter via 3G . 3G was on all the time.

I had maybe 10 calls ( app. 2 min each)

    Standby time is :17h 26min

I belive that this is fine.

Battery in my iPhone 4S seems to be almost double what I was getting before the iOS 5.1 update!  Not sure if it made any difference but I did do the "Reset All Settings" right after the update.

I suppose so.  I have 5% left and it's been 1 hr, 1min and I have lost exactly 15% or 17%.  I can't remember if battery was on 20% or 22%.  But either 15 or 17mins.  I'm assuming this is decent?

Is there any ways to improve farther?

    For me I Had :

Standby time of : 1 day and 1 hour

Usage : 7 hours or so. and that is still with 8% of battery left.

I usually do texting, music, phone calls, web browsing and siri too. and this is my result.

Is that good? I didn't use the iphone 4s much since I'm at school.

Thats funny, So if I actually get the battery usage of what Apple has posted and stated I should get, then really I was duped because of ad agencies like yours? Interesting concept.

At any rate I and others are happy with the iPhone 4s, it will run for a few days if I want it to without charge. I can and do plug it in every night just because I like it full the next day, and I can do with it everything I ever intended to when I purchased it ($149 so not that expensive for a phone of this caliber),  Make phone calls, check emails, browse internet, manage my calendar, check out a few youtube videos now and then and a host of other items. Anyway thanks for your input on this forum it was very helpful. And the whole ad agency brainwashing bit was interesting as well. BTW its ok if a company makes money on products they sell, its the American way!

Just curious, do you own a mobile phone? Did you purchase it? Did the company that made it make money off of you?

I appreciate your view, however, the "There are awesome results posted all over these pages after some of the tips were applied and certainly since iOS 5.1 was released."

Doesn't really resolve anything, you're writing in terms of someone who feels they have been beaten down, OF COURSE any little improvement, even nominally, will be considered amazing by most when they've had complete trash. It's the way the human mind works.

If I had you in a cage and I'd give you only a cup of water and a banana a day, to the point where you're beaten down mentally, then I upped it to 2 cups a day and 2 bananas, you'll think you just received a 9-course meal from me and that it was the greatest thing on the planet.

Yeah, laugh all you want at that analogy, but this is the way that the human mind works, and I, having been an ad agency exec for 3 of the top ad firms in the world and owning my own now, I KNOW this is how the human mind works, and we use it ALL THE TIME when it comes to marketing, that's how we get idiots to accept sub-standard products and HORRID service while charging them more money for them. We even get people tp ;ay MORE money for equally garbage products in their hopes of fixing the first problem.

Pride, while dangerous to people is mutually beneficial to those who make money off of people's pride, et. al.: c orporations and advertising.

Deny it all you want in order to make yourself feel better, it's OK, we, and Apple too, is making money off of you for it wwith most of the products that you buy, yes, including the iPhone - made by kids in China and you paid how much for it? Come on! Haha

    Thanks! Enjoy.

sbailey4, thank you very much! I wasn't aware FB is such a problem. I do not really have many notifications coming in, but when I have time i check the news there and who is online. But I will see how it goes without notifications at all.

I'll try with manual pull of emails and less frequently refreshing twitter.

It is just frustrating because I did the exact same things on my iPhone 4 and it lasted longer. But thank you for all the tips, I hope they help, I am getting fed up.

EXACTLY!!, What I have tried to get across since page 20 LOL. The specs are either or not AND. So 8hr talk then get out you charger. 9 hr wifi done plug it in. Leave it lying on the desk 200hrs later recharge it. Folks are not grasping that whole concept. And yes some here are not getting the correct usage like .05% per hr on standby so there are other issues with their setup or device that need addressing. But the majority of iPhone 4s users are and now that iOS 5.1 has released even more seem to be. So the ones here that think we are brainwashed and Apple trolls all that other  horse s*** ...well say what you want. If we are loosing .05% an hour of battery in standby then thats what Apple said we would get so why complain about it?

    duckie91 wrote:

and btw when they say 200 hours of standby they literally mean if you just leave it in standby it will last 200 hours. 8 hours of 3G talktime ONLY if you just do that.

    Amen!  Well said!

BTW I also dont personally know anyone with iPhone 4 or 4s that have any issues at all and never have since 5.0. And most of my friends and co-workers have them.

    Wibcs39 wrote:

Yeah jeez some of you are acting ridiculous...the vast majority of 4s users have no battery issues (I know at least 15 to 20 people with them and no one has issues) and as is becoming more and more apparent on here, many who think they have problems just think that they should be able to get 200 hrs standby, 10 hrs talk time and 6 hrs 3G usage all on one charge every single time, which is obviously and clearly not what the specs indicate. If you truly don't like your phone, return it. Acting like a spoiled child on an Internet forum and telling others that they are wrong for enjoying the phone and accepting the battery life certainly doesn't benefit anyone!

This is all BS Apple has put it to everyone and I refuse to take it. I returned my third 4s today to ATT  and never will I fall for the Apple BS again. I turned every thing of but the power on the darn thing and lost on average of 20% per hour. This was the worst of all of them. Did all the Bull that the Apple lovers on here say to and it helped none, updated to newest software which actually mad it worse. Research this problem on line its huge, Apple has turned their back on all of us. The Apple lovers on here who probably are Apple employees are happy to tell you to turn off everything and be happy. I will soon as Apple only charges $20 for these paper weights. I will decide tonight  on my new phone but never another Apple product. While there 2 others returned theirs as well for battery issues and the store clerk stated that the majority they sell come back with in 2 weeks due to battery issues. Run from these pieces of junk run fast and do not fall for all the BS of the 2 or 3 singing the praises of their Apple paper weights.
